Believe it or not but this wasn’t an April Fool’s Joke. It says a lot that I’m more likely to be asked to debate whether or not plants feel pain than the fact that animals do actually feel pain. Why do we care about tomatoes making noises through releasing gas but not animals screaming because they’re actually suffering?

We all think "Oh, instead of killing the cow I will just eat tomatoes" but the farmer in the video explained that in order to grow mass fields of one crop, you MUST KILL every insect/small animal that will attack your crop. Gophers, ground kitties, birds, mice/rats, foxes, ANY ANIMAL that poses a threat to that crop must be exterminated... Which defeats the idea of 'not killing for food'.

Contrary to all other media outlets, GBN is always the most respectful platform for actual dialogue and discussion - they allow anyone on and allow anyone to speak, and they will gladly give you your platform and question it with good faith. It doesn't matter if they're more popular with right wing activists, because at the end of the day, they still gladly welcome people like George Galloway or in this case, Ed, to have their time to shine and offer their take. Same I spent years as a vegetarian "considering" veganism when all I really needed to do was just take the plunge and I would have figured things out then just as I had figured things out when I actually decided. And I did it because of the most trivial reason too, I was visiting my vegan girlfriend and I just didn't want to disappoint her, so I figured why not for this weekend I'll be vegan not eat any milk cheese or egg (since I was already vegetarian), and then found out well hey that was easy, maybe I should just continue it. Maybe I'll eat some cheese if I feel like it every now and then but lets take this for a test drive! And what do you know I never got the cravings because I balanced my diet really well with all the flavors I needed! So I retroactively called that moment when I went vegan even though in the moment and time I definitely didn't know or mark it as *the turning point* hahaha. So You just need a trivial reason to do it, and then figure out how to maintain it well and go from there! What do you have to lose? :D

It's all about avoiding unnecessary harm.
Using cows as if they were food is not carbon neutral nor is it ethically neutral, and besides, no one needs their breast milk except their calves, who don't get it cuz we're guzzling it down. We have our own human milk, just like every other mammal has their own which is perfectly made for them until they wean. If we're fortunate enough to be participating in this dialogue, I doubt we're subsisting off of some scarcely-resourced village where a cow is inherent for survival.

@@brookie_cuqui if we were to put vegans in control of global food production = there will be mass starvation = what you never see is vegans pooling resources to buy land to grow the food you want every one else to eat. you want everybody else to do what you want to suit your own individual desires. get out in the real world = vegan food especially 'impossible burgers' etc is over processed + over packaged + over priced. plant based diets are the root cause of global obesity epidemic + broad range of chronic disease including type 2 diabetics. going vegan simply increases poor health because poor people cant afford the perfect human diet that at the very least MUST include eggs that can be produced without waste or harm to animals = but you will rarely see vegans do anything other than order food or order people around.

Indeed, Mr. Edward “Winters” Gaunt’s understanding of metaethics is beyond reproach, which explains why he condones the MURDER of poor, innocent humans before they have the opportunity to even see the light of day. 👶
The fact that he repeatedly asserts that “humans are animals” shows what an abject hypocrite is that MURDEROUS sinner. 😩
Furthermore, it is debatable whether Ed is truly vegan in his outlook, since he recently stated on the national television programme, GBNews, that he believes we ought NOT ban animal agriculture!
“I’m not even saying that we should ban meat, dairy and eggs right now”.
Mr. Ed Gaunt, So-called “VEGAN” activist. 😐

      consciousness/Consciousness:
“that which knows”, or “the state of being aware”, from the Latin prefix “con” (with), the stem “scire” (to know) and the suffix “osus” (characterized by). To put it succinctly, consciousness is the SUBJECTIVE component in any subject-object relational dynamic. The concept of consciousness is best understood in comparison with the notion of sentience. Cf. “sentience”.
As far as biologists can ascertain, the simplest organisms (single-celled microbes) possess an exceedingly-primitive form of sentience, since their life-cycle revolves around adjusting to their environment, metabolizing, and reproducing via binary fission, all of which indicates a sensory perception of their environment (e.g. temperature, acidity, energy sources and the presence of oxygen, nitrogen, minerals, and water). More complex organisms, such as plants, have acquired a far greater degree of sentience, since they can react to the light of the sun, to insects crawling on their leaves (in the case of carnivorous plants), excrete certain chemicals and/or emit ultrasonic waves when being cut. At this point it is imperative to consult the entry “sentience” in the Glossary of this Holy Scripture.
According to this premise, the simplest forms of animal life possess sentience, but no noticeable semblance of true consciousness. As a general rule, those animals that have at least three or four senses, combined with a simple brain, possess a mind but lack an intellect. Higher animals (notably mammals) have varying levels of intelligence but only humans have a false-ego (sense of self). Thus, human consciousness is constituted of the three components: the mind, the intellect, and the pseudo-ego (refer to Ch. 05).
There is a rather strong correlation between brain complexity and level of consciousness, explaining why humans alone are capable of self-awareness. In this case, “self-awareness” is not to be confused with “self-recognition”, which is a related but quite distinct phenomenon, found also in several species of non-human animals, in which an animal is able to recognize itself in a mirror or some other reflective surface. “Self-awareness” refers to the experience where a human over the age of approximately three years is consciousness of the fact that he or she knows (that is, aware) that he or she is aware. Obviously, in the case of a child, he or she may need to be prompted in order to first be acquainted with this understanding. For example an adult could ask the child:
“Do you know that you have a toy car?” “Yes!” “And do you KNOW that you know you have a toy car?” “Umm...I think so...yes!”.
In contemporary spiritual circles (as well as in several places within this book), the capitalized form of the word usually, if not always, refers to Universal Consciousness, that is, an Awareness of awareness (otherwise known as The Ground of All Being, et altri).
      sentience:
the capacity to experience feelings or sensations, as distinguished from perceptions and cognition. The word was first coined by philosophers in the 1630’s for the concept of an ability to feel, derived from Latin “sentientem” (a feeling), in order to distinguish it from the ability to think/reason. Therefore, sentience ought not be confused with consciousness, though the two are closely related.
Perhaps the most strikingly-obvious phenomenon that demonstrates plant sentience is the way in which vines SENSE the presence of external structures, using such formations to support their stems and tendrils whilst growing.
In animal life, there are up to five sensory organs that are able to detect external stimulants or percepts.
ADDITIONALLY, many forms of metazoans have acquired a degree of consciousness, in which a subject-object polarity is established.
Therefore, when carnists claim that “plants have feelings too” upon being confronted with vegan ideology, they may be correct (at least in a rather diffuse sense of the term “feelings”), so the most logical reason for being vegan is not because plants are completely without sentience, but simply due to the fact that humans are an herbivorous species. If Homo sapiens were naturally omnivores or carnivores, then no sane person would condone veganism. In summary, all forms of organic life are, by definition, sentient, yet TRUE consciousness is found in those animal species that have a certain level of intelligence (that is, as a general rule, vertebrates, though there are a couple of notable exceptions to this general rule). Cf. “consciousness/Consciousness” and “carnist” in this Glossary.
