Not defeated, you merely held the torch that very few ever get to hold. In doing so you became a legend of cycling. Just like Moser, Merckx, Boardman, Obree, Dowsett, Wiggins, so it is Campenaerts.
Records are meant to be broken, that's human progress. The key is how long you hold it, so appreciate the time you had, and the work you put in to originally breaking it.
Victor, you’re the best! I was a little disappointed when I found out Dan broke your record today. I remember last year when he broke the British record, I watched the live chat on The Cycling Dane and everyone there was so excited you commented on the live chat. You’re such a class act. I really enjoy your videos. I’m a fan! Chapeau ❤️
You've now entered the great list of names of previous holders, that will remain for ever. You've also very gracefully passed the stick on to the new WHR holder Dan Bigham, our utmost respect to you!
Congratulations on all of your many achievements on the bike. I'm sure there will be many more. As for the world hour record, there is an old saying, "Records are made to be broken". Not many can say they have ever held it, even for the shortest time.
Victor you can be like the great Ole Ritter, Francesco Moser and Alex Dowsett, They came back 6 to 10 years after setting their world hour records and rode further to set a new personal bests. I predict this for you. You have the hour as part of your passion! Three great champions who came back again!
I don’t think you’re a defeated World Hour Record Holder. You’re a former World Hour Record Holder. Your name will forever be in the books, where it belongs, together with all the other legends who set it before you.
You can perhaps attempt the 24 hour record, Victor? Just a bit over 1.000 kms. Thanks for having made many fellow Belgians proud for at least having held the record for some time.
I'd like to see MANY of the current Pro Tour pros riding the pursuit event at the Worlds. It would be fascinating to watch that competition with Victor, Wout, Remco, Filippo, etc. all battling it out on the wooden bowl!
There seems to be some discussion regarding Dan Bigham's hour attempt over the position of the pads on the cote d'azur. It appears the pads were further back from the track, allowing Dan to use the black line and lower. Rules state the cote d'azur should be impassable, but it seems that the blue line was exposed in the positioning of the pads by comparison to Victor Campanaets' and others efforts. Analysis of this, whether it's the fault of the commisars or otherwise should be welcome. Did Dan Bigham have an unfair advantage that went unseen?
Ganna probably improved a bit since his 4k pursuit and the equipment especially with Dan Bigham helping with aero testing. But yeah, I think a realistic and still unbelieveable bet is 58kph for Top Ganna.
Victor you set the bar so high that I can't imagine what it took for Dan Bigham to break your record. Chapeau to both of you. You're a gentleman.
Not defeated, you merely held the torch that very few ever get to hold.

Dowsett went close

Well you are in fantastic form right now. Hope your season bears fruit.
Very sporting words 😎🤙
Gracious champion
It's been raining in Grenchen, so part of the extra distance was due to low atmospheric pressure.
You are a class act👍

Hey Victor, you are my “MAN”. Why don’t you do the Track Worlds Individual Pursuit? I believe you will win it easily.

60kph? Maybe in a 4km pursuit? 1hr doubt it.
