      +SkylordAz Beau says he does scrap some stuff. I'm sure he watches the prices and, goes when they are at their peak. And, copper, aluminum, cans, brass, ect. are much, much higher than, 2 cents. I can assure you of that. Copper is probably $2.11 lbs. aluminum 45 cents.

    Going lure fishing was how I filled my first tackle box, when they let the water out of the lake we always fished in, dad and I would row our way around the shore and salvage any lures we found. One Saturday we collected enough fairly good lures to finish setting up my very first tackle box. Still have a few of those old lures, yet. Even found an old aluminum lure holder full of lures. Just had to replace the hooks on most of the finds. My favorites were the old red and white Dare Devil spinners, have a bunch of those in various colors, but the red and white works the best. Found a silver Krockodile Lure while fishing for Northerns up in Wisconsin one year. Couple of years later caught a 45+ lb chinook salmon with it on one trip over to the coastal rivers. At the time when I held it up in front of me, with its nose level with mine the tail extended below my knees, I was pushing about 5'7" at the time. Have not been out fishing or hunting since my stroke a few years ago. . . . . . . just subscribed and am tryin to work my way backwards through your videos with thumbs up support. this one here stirred my memory to when i was bout 10 years old and went fishing on the brazos river in acton texas... just a quarter mile up hill, from where elizabeth crockett is buried.
    www.texasescapes.com/MikeCoxTexasTales/228-Davy-Crocketts-Widow-Elizabeth-Patton-Crockett.htm
    thought it worthy of mention due to Crockett and Bowie are considered in my eyes, as those "TWO BLOOD BAPTIZED TEXANS" who decided that rather than wait for success in seizing victory for Texas ... to just go on ahead without it. "BE SURE YOU ARE RIGHT, THEN GO ON AHEAD" -D Crockett. rest in peace all three of you till better paid. -gilpin
    now then... back to the brazos... dad had brought along an old flywheel. i remember asking him what part of the fishin trip is this? found out later when it became the opposite anchor end of our trot line tied to a stump from the bank. this might explain how these kind of objects are doing mid river, creek, or lake. dad said overnight the current had wedged the flywheel too deep into the sand to remove without getting out of the boat in the cold pre-spring weather, so we left it. as a mechanic he had plenty more back home,but was leaning more toward the use of burned out starters or generators. -gilpin 2-10-16.010 of 365

    We tried this and the first time,on the 2nd throw? found a Live Gernade from Iraq that a US Soldier brought back and Pulled the cap off and threw it into the Water and it didn't Blow Up! We left it on the Magnet, thru it back out into the River and Call the Police and They sent their Bomb Squad out..They took things over and got it to go inside a Concrete Box they Lowered down and them closed it up with my Magnet still Attached, then Put it into a Bigger Concrete box on wheels and then? BOOM, they exploded it with another Explosive..Then they had 5 Boaters all searching that area, but didn't find any more Gernades! what a damn dummy for throwing that 1st Gernade in! Glad we got it out!

    Still can't figure out why you find so many axe heads in rivers. I can't imagine them making very good anchors and since most of them appear to be quite old, I also cant imagine people just throwing them in the river once they become damaged or the handle breaks. Tools like that weren't considered as disposable back then as they are now. Weird.

    • @aliasfred
      @aliasfred 8 лет назад +2

      +Pancreaticdefect Quite often when felling trees near a river or creek when the head becomes loose or a head flies off the handle, it really moves fast and can land in the water. I was metal detecting in an old defunct lumbering area a few years ago. I dug up two double bit axe heads that were well over 100 years old. Still very usable. I was told by an old lumberjack that because they worked cutting trees in over 4 foot of snow, that when an axe head came off of a handle and went flying, they didn't go look for it, they just went to the tool shed and got another one.

  • @tymesho
    @tymesho 8 лет назад

    I still do this off bridges, I quit doing it on the boat because when I couldn't get something up, i would get so pissed cause the water was too damn cold to climb in. got smart, and started a journal to come back when it was nice out. a journal is not only for women, it's a very smart thing to keep. mine have brought me back to places my old brain cells would have certainly forgotten. it just works, and that's good enough for this OLD river rat.

    At Norfork Lake I once hit it when the lake had really dropped. Out of one big bush I retrieved 15 or so lures, most of them in great shape. I also got eyeball to eyeball with a vulture eating a carp on the shore. Years later I learned how vultures can regurgitate vile acid stuff to repulse anything close. I was lucky I did not get a face full of it!

    Like Mr. Rogers meets Sanford and son! I guess that put me in this category also because i love everything this guy does too. I just bought one of those magnets on E bay last month and just tuned into this guy to hear about his metal detector views. Surprised to see he is on the same wave length as me magnet hunting wise. Even has the foam wrapped around the magnet i tried. A small ball shape works best i have found. He is quite entertaining so i will have to check out all his other video's. Another entertaining person is the German sling shot guy on You tube. Really funny and quite an innovative inventor.

    Maybe the handle you found is from a freezer containing a body. The killer got tired of having the body stored in his apartment/house, so he decided just to throw it out in the river....so you better look for it so you can alarm the police. -:)

    You are so easy to listen to and so relaxing to boot...and no profanity..another plus in watching your videos..I do have one question...I remember watching your video on how to tie a rope onto the magnet..and you saying no knots..as it makes the rope weak at that spot..then I noticed in this video, you do indeed have a knot in your rope..hummm oops...anyway...keep those awesome videos coming!!!!

    I don't know how many magnet fishing videos I've watched, but I have yet to see any real treasures come from it. Seen a lot of things people threw in the water hoping nobody would ever find them, and I guess that's kind of tantalizing, but as for stuff worth money, ha, no.

    Beau- Do you know the poundage rating on your magnet? Is 405lb sufficient? I see these on eBay for $37 or so. Thanks!

    I have a question. What do you do with the metal you find. Bought a 900# magnet and eager to use it. Just wondering what you do with the metal.T.I.A.

    If you have the magnet face down, and you drift over something magnetic under your boat.... you just instantly sink. this image is very funny to me despite the fact i'm sure it's not actually realistic

    my step-dad collects scrap metal, he gets really strong magnets out of old microwave ovens, thinking about trying to make one of these????

    Could you cover the magnet with a plastic bag and secure with zip ties, wouldn't it make easier and faster to clean the small micro bits off? Was thinking a conical shaped non magnetic over for the top would decrease the odds of getting hung up.

    Never tried this. Looks interesting. Just not too sure where I could use it. Most of my swim holes were water filled Strip Mines, 1500 to 2500 feet deep.

    Got a great idea works perfect. Buy one of those dollar general kids foam bats about 3 feet long for one dollar with the hole in the middle, large sized, about 2 to 3 inches wide. Run your rope through it, pulling the magnet up flush against the bottom of the foam tube so it wont stick out but will still stick to metal and secure it with duct tape. now you have a snag proof water magnet fishing tool that wont be prone to getting caught as much. Add lead weights accordingly to rope near magnet to suit. Works great!

    What kind of magnet were you using? What do you do if you are fishing from shore and your magnet gets hung up? What would you do?

    When fishing from the shore, if you have the option of course, bring a come along. If it gets stuck a person might not be able to move 200+ lbs of stone but that baby sure will.

    Love your work dude. Just wondering if you thought of attaching a camera to the front of your kayak. You could have it on a tripod. That way you get more in the shot.

    That axe head is a pretty good find, looked like an old plumb rockaway pattern.
    I'd restore that badboy & cut wood with it.
