ONE MORE RED NIGHTMARE
(Fripp, Wetton)
One More Red Nightmare
Pan American nightmare
Ten thousand feet funfair
Convinced that I don't care
It's safe as houses I swear
I was just sitting musing
The virtues of cruising
When altitude dropping
My ears started popping
One more red nightmare
Sweat beginning to pour down
My neck as I turn round
I heard fortune shouting
”Get off of this outing”
A farewell swansong
See you know how turbulence can be
The stewardess made me
But the captain forbade me
One more red nightmare
Reality stirred me
My angel had heard me
The prayer had been answered
A reprieve has been granted
The dream was now broken
Though rudely awoken
Really safe and sound
Asleep on the Greyhound
One more red nightmare

I just watched an interview with Bill Bruford where he confirmed that the 'trash' cymbal used in this track was a bent non branded cymbal he salvaged out of a dustbin
@@M3lt33n0 It was a bent-up Zilco cymbal, Zilco being an off-shoot of Zildjian, which took cymbals that weren't quite up to usual standards, and sold them at "budget" or "beginner" prices.
@@Esotereclectic ruclips.net/video/Ha0OimHJv70/видео.html the interview I saw is here, he talks about it at exactly 5.00 , I don't think he mentions the brand in this interview though.

Simply one of my favourite albuns. Outstanding
It is 😊👍
Have you ever heard KC live - especially "Red" is live so much more impressive than it already is here.
I remember the interaction between Fripp and Voormann, although perfectly rehearsed it still sparked with the inspiration Fripp is always hoping for:
"With professionals you always know the level of perfection you can expect, but sometimes it goes beyond that and you achieve beauty." Or similar words to that effect in a "lecture" by Fripp involving a teaching performance by the League of Crafty Guitarists.
(I've witnessed the weight of depression falling off Robert Fripp when the (his) music moves beyond the perfection of discipline. Magic, moving moments of bliss...)
ruclips.net/video/FhKJgqxNDD8/видео.html
Live performance of "Starless". See the magic moment. (And HEAR it, of course 😁.)
Klaus gets the swing that gives meaning to the thing. You can see it in Robert's face and movements.
And everybody's performance moves up a notch.
Pure magic, and I'm crying in heaven 😉☺
Sorry, I can get so sentimental about music and its performers at my age. I've "known" these people for so long, Klaus since before "Revolver".
("Some are dead and some are living, but in my life, I've loved them all..." Rest in peace, friends and lovers.)

This is why Bruford is my favorite drummer summed up in one song- he plays with both drama and humor.
What's funny about this?
@@maximummatt73 i play instruments and i totally get what hes saying. Something about just experimenting and HAVING FUN really comes through Bruford's playing!
@@anthonycortez9191 nah, you're wrong
@@maximummatt73you’re the one thats wrong. the whole improv aspect of BB’s playing was “humorous”, not in the sense of literally cracking jokes in the middle of a prog rock piece… in this era he would leave in laughs and woo’s on album recordings (see S&BB) even though it was ‘unprofessional’ compared to the rest of prog . the entire point of his playing was whatever comes out comes out… no shit nobodys laughing at “one more red nightmare”
although I’d say humility is a better word than “humor”
i just stumbled upon this. how is this not more famous? what a song and what a sound!
Why it’s not more famous?
Too dark and uncompromising.
I'm confused. King Crimson is one of the most famous and influential prog bands in modern music.

One More Red Nightmare
Pan american nightmare
Ten thousand feet fun-fair
Convinced that I don't care
It's safe as houses I swear
I was just sitting musing
The virtues of cruising
When altitude dropping
My ears started popping
One more red nightmare
Sweat beginning to pour down
My neck as I turn round
I heard fortune shouting
Get off of this outing
A farewell swan song
See you know how turbulence can be
The stewardess made me
But the captain forbid me
One more red nightmare
Reality stirred me
My angel had heard me
The prayer had been answered
A reprieve has been granted
The dream was now broken
Though rudely awoken

This song has plenty going for it, not the least of all, some fabulous lyrics
One of the reasons why the drumming sounds so original is because BB uses ample and creative silences and spacing. That's an art in itself. To control the tendency to play several notes. Only a few drummers in a rock context can do this. It is more common in jazz where drummers most come down to let other musicians improvise.
You can tell Bill had fun with that opening riff.

How is it that albums with a red/black color scheme on the cover so often turn out to be among the best of the lot?
Yeah, it's way circumstantial but there's so many of em. At some point confirmation bias can't be the only thing at play.
Those two colors represent something very powerful. Imagine a solitary red flame in the pitch black darkness. The source.
Might be something to that. But then again, supposedly the yellow/black combo is the one which offers the most contrast.
Interesting - I think I'll dive into the psychology behind that, my fingers are twitching with anticipation 😃😊

"One More Red Nightmare" has such a powerful beat that brings me so much nostalgia, like the bridges from 2:06 to 3:58 and from 5:02 to the end of the song.
Bruford was bright and joyful, in the drums/percussion; Wetton was remarkable, in the vocals and the bass; and Fripp was just brilliant, in pretty much every instrument, not to mention Mel Collins' and Ian McDonald's great sax works, in this album. Love it! A great work from the group.

where?
@@chasetemple3992 If you have the 5..1 DVD and a player that uses 5 main RCA patch cords feeding your surround system , It easy to find which channel or two has the main lead guitar. Then you use a couple of two way splitters on that output of the DVD player to feed one of your extra stereo inputs on the surround sound receiver and set that to 5.1 stereo mode . Then you can listen to any of the channels separately through all 5 spks. I'm using about 6 splitters and extra patch cords so I can switch from 5.1 to just the front or just the rears or just the center plays through the whole system.
