Same here. I miss my grandma so much. She and I would ride around on Saturday mornings, hit up a few yard sales, then we would drop by a few of her favorite dumpster spots. She was so fun. Made me laugh harder than anyone else I know.
I still go junking and my kids like it some. Got me a nice goodwill clearance center with the bins of random stuff its all $1.75 per pound. Weird fun mystery shopping
Honestly the best thing about RUclips is getting to hear singer/songwriters like this. I subscribed and look forward to hearing more this talented human being.
My older brother passed away just a few days ago march 1st. When we were kids we would go dumpster diving all the time find bikes and stuff clean them up and have new toys lol. I found this song about a week before he passed and really enjoyed it and now I enjoy it that much more. Thank you.
We did dumpster diving in La Jolla CA, rich people would set good things on the side of their trash cans. They knew that people would pick it up and resell. We did pick up stuff for many years, and proud of it. Most of our family moved up from being low income and now middle class. I never look down at people who do it now. Never forget where you came from!
I used to take scrap with my grandfather every Saturday going to breakfast the whole deal I would do anything to have those days back. Thank you for bringing back good memories.
Quality time is quality time. I grew up around mechanics and farmers and learning how to fix things that were broke or making something never seen before. Some folks called us rednecks, trash, whatever. But I learned a lot and those lessons won't go away. Great song.
Bro, to hear you say that this song didn’t connect to audiences….breaks my heart. You’ve clearly been jaded by the big machine in Nashville bc this song is absolutely incredible, relevant, genius, and you beat me to the title LOL. Been working on the same title for years. Kudos! I’m a huge fan
Joshua, thanks for stirring up those memories from when I was a kid. I would go up to Potter County in Pennsylvania to a little town called "Millport". I would spent the summers with my GrandPa, he was the local trash man, he would use his Chevy pickup, and I rode with him, his name was Frank Treat 1904 - 1979. We collected glass to take to the glass plant, and recycle things we could fix up and sell. I'm 58 now, and my GrandPa went onto the glory of God in 1979 when I was just 13. It was the worse lost for me up to that point, I've since lost my parents and my first wife Denise; I'm grateful for the time I spent with all those who went on before me, and its those memories that will hold me up until I see them all again in Heaven.
Hey man, I appreciated you taking the time to share your story. Greetings from L.A....I'm a sucker for real life and what it gives us. Blessing to you and yours and may you live long and prosperous. ✌️
Thanks for sharing brother. I’m from blue collar Allentown, but been in the mtns of NorCal for some time now. Pa represent. Thanks for sharing. All ways we keep it moving !
@@rkaicfunkful My family came from Baltimore and came back to PA in '78, I'll never live in the city again, like to visit, won't live there. Pine cones, clear water, and fresh air run throughj my vains. I get so high off of just walking througjh the woods. I love sitting and being very quiet, just to hear the songs of nature. In my opinion, you can't look at nature and tell me there is no God, my heart and spirt, know different.
I absolutely LOVE this song! My dad and I dumpster dived when I was little, now I'm older and it's one of my favorite past times with my husband. We got our 13 year old daughter enjoying it as well.
Man this is crazy, I grew up poor riding around with my father in his pickup truck looking for scrap metal and things to fix we lived out of dumpsters practically beautiful song I hope you really blow up
Right on brother, my whole family does the same thing. I always tell my children that someday they will look back and cherish the happy memories we made together. I truly appreciate the song and Grandpa!
Joshua Ray Walker has an extremely surreal and advanced relationship of sound between his country sensibility, and something almost on the edge of surreal folk, like John Prine or Paul Simon and even Sufjan Stevens.Very inventive and melodic young artist.
Make no mistake.... Corporate America throws away tons of fresh hot food. This is how some folks eat. What's funny is Manny times the food is still steaming hot....thank you Lord Jesus for the food in my stomach the roof over my head and the shirt on my back.
I remember when I was a little girl. We were visiting my Aunt and Uncle in rural Washington 1960s. My Aunt says y'all want to go to "dump day?" Well we get there . Everyone that was tossing real debris just kinda threw it down in the hole if possible. Everyone else tossing what might be usable backed up and piled it on the edge. I swear it felt more like a park and swap meet . There were as many folks looking at dumping. And most dumping were also. looking. My sister and I were wandering. Some lady calls us over , and says "I think I have something you might like?" She pulls these two little pristine white Easter hats , sun bonnets out and gives them to us . We were thrilled ! We were poor , 3 other siblings , had lost our Dad . We held on to those for years . Do yeah "dump day ," is a good memory for me .
Awesome song, it brings back fond memories of the trips with my dad to the dump. If I helped load and unload, I was allowed to scarf a few treasures before we left. Still have the biography about George Washington Carver I saved 60 yrs. ago.
This ain't a "miss"..! Those who can relate to this will find ya, and I'm darn sure there is enough of us to see this and hopefully get ya somewhere...
Me and my brother did a lot of dumpster diving when we were young. Still do from time to time. My dad and grandpa were always bringing home junk. We scrapped metal, fixed up old tractors and mowers, weed whackers and what not. We worked on a lot of cars. Scrapped in my brothers SS Monte Carlo lol. Then when I turned 16 I built my old ford truck out of used parts, swapped in a manual transmission, and we hauled a lot of metal in that thing. Good times man
That's my new favorite song. The people who have NEVER dumpster dived, aren't down to earth yet. Someday we OG Divers will teach them a thing or two about surviving. ITS AN AWESOME MEMORY YOU SHARED AND VERY WORTH THE TIME YOU TOOK TO TELL IT.
I recently “dumpster dived” for some lumber to the chagrin of my grandkids. My granddaughter now thinks that’s how u acquire your lumber… she’s 6 and calls it “trash swimming”😂
Love it!! I’ve got a friend went dumpster diving and came up with a frostbitten little puppy!! 😮😢 Took her home, loved her to health, & she’s the best dog ever!
@Joshua Ray Walker ~ You made a wonderful song. I’ve been dumpster diving since I was 8 or 9 years old. My dad took my younger brother and me diving with him. I was instantly hooked. Since then I’ve become a diver, digger, saler, and a junkie. I do fairly well for myself and my family. Thank You for playing for us. 👍👍
My first experience with dumpster diving was with my grandfather... I was 9 years old .. I am 39 years old now and I still dumpster dive and I've met some incredible people and found the most amazing treasures while doing it. This song made me cry I love it

Damn.. 😢 miss my grandma, I would jump in the dumpsters to look for things and never thought anything bad of it, just hanging with my grandma. Great song.

Cars spend days circling town collecting anything of value they come across and whatever’s left gets picked up by the trash collectors on garbage day. We love it. Got a nice set of end tables a few years back
I was born in a barn in Texas. I never went to school until 6th grade. My early years were in the sticks and backwoods. Dumpster diving was a way of life. In this modern world it seems so far away, like a actual different life. This song hit me in a part of my soul I didn't know was still there. Thank you
I'm a 31 year old mechanic with tears in my eyes! This song hit bro. Me and my grandma would do it time to time. Miss her so much. Love you grandma

Nothing like dumpster diving. The ultimate cheap thrill. Been doing it for years being the construction business. Thanks.
I think you're underestimating just how relatable this really is. Great work man

With all due respect brother. This is 10 times better than what’s on Spotify. You don’t need all the production. This is amazing.
