I think Chevy knew it was just professional and not personal with Siskel and Ebert. They mention several movies he made that they liked and gave his performances good reviews so he knew even though they disliked Three Amigos it was their opinion as professionals but they didn’t have any issues with him personally. They both later loved Funny Farm which Chase himself has said is one of if not his best movie so I think Chase was able to tolerate and respect their opinions as professionals and not take it too personal.
When you book an actor who's made as many bad movies as Chevy and a couple of straight-shooting critics the sparks should fly. This is just about perfect.
A couple years later, Chevy Chase was back on the show. Johnny mentioned this interview, and Chevy responded, "...and the fat one said that...", then Johnny and the audience interrupted him by busting up laughing. LOL 🙂
Classic Quartet:)
Chase was a surprisingly good sport. Thanks for posting this.

This is got to be the most awkward moment I've seen on television unless there's something I'm missing.
