First of all thank you veterans, past and present, for your service. Three months ago I was one the pallbearers of my very best friend and neighbor James E Smith affectionately known on our property as ‘Jim Sr’…I was called ‘Jim Jr’. It was very difficult for me, firstly, bc we were burying such a wonderful man and my best friend. But, looking out across Veterans Memorial Cemetery here in Houston and seeing so many of my comrades laid to rest was staggering to say the least. One day in the future I’ll be buried here as well and be back among several of my friends buried there also. Thank you for this military tribute. Safe travels! ~Jim~

I have the highest respect for our veterans. We owe our freedom to them. Don't go too soon, Jim. We have to meet up someday. Safe travels. 😊

My great grandfather and his brother were Privates in the 23rd Missouri Infantry on the Unions right flank of the Hornets Nest. My grandfather was badly wounded in his neck.( whether by musket ball or arillery fragment I do not know) It took a year before he was able to resume duty with the unit. His brother was captured later in the day ( Apr 6th) when the Union line finally collapsed and spent time in a prison camp in Macon, GA. He was later exchanged in a prisoner swap, but died of disease while in St Louis , MO. Great grand dad went on with the 23rd in Sherman's March Through Georgia and was discharged in Dec. 1864. He returned to his home in Missouri, but headed for California after the war ended. I believe due to all of the vengence killing and such going on in Missouri and Kansas. I was fortunate that my mother was able to relate so much of his history to me before she died. He died in 1937 at the age of 95.

We might have to take a trip down there sometime this year. Well, I had better run, and you all stay safe! Until next time, may God bless your days the way He always blesses ours! Donald

I think the majority of the Mississippi rest stops have dump stations.
You should stop by both sometime. It would be a great place to have your lunch. 😁

Danny said that over 2000 of the soldiers were unknown. So I guess they basically didn't know the names of many of them. That's so sad. Safe travels, friends. 😊
