  • Just a quick tutorial of how to disable the DRLs on the 2021 CX5. Probably works for 2020 and below models as well.
There has been a lot of debate on why you shouldn't or should do this. I'm not here to debate, just showing you how. For full disclosure I put the relay back in.

Thanks for posting this video for the people that aren’t finding any luck disabling their DRLs through the steps Mazda provided almost 10 years ago.

Thanks! I saw I'm getting a lot of traffic on this one from one of the Mazda forums. I just started poking around and saw that relays name and figured what the hell why not try it.

I can confirm the steps from Mazda for the 2013 CX-5 that tommy13965 is referring to do work. I have a 2022 Turbo and after completing the steps now have no lights while driving in the off position and only halos while driving in the parking lights position. The DRLs/headlights do come on when in the auto or on position.

There is a program called forscan that you should be able to reprogram them. It works on Ford Lincoln Mazda. I got the program for my Ford F150 and was able to turn on all kinds of features, you have your choice on what to use as a DRL. LED, with headlight, Headlight alone, Led Alone, Turn Signal etc. My F150 came with the headlights on all the time and I changed it to turnsignal. I also turned on foglights as cornering lights (turn right the right fog comes on, turn left the left one comes on. I turned on the window control on the feyfob and more. I was able to get Forscan to connect to my 2023 CX-5 and found the module for the DRL but I would need the codes in order to reprogram it. Kind of hoping someone here has done that and can share the codes.

The steps listed by @tommy13965 worked for my 2021 Touring but the Halos do not light up with parking lights on, only the yellows.
Steps: each setp must be done in no more than 5 sec between. which is not hard at all, just go over steps in your head a moment before and it's easy
    1. Acc on (tap start button twice)
    2. Ebrake on
    3. turn headlights to parking lights and back to off 5 times (I counted 1 every time it went back to off)
    4. press the emergency hazard button on and off 5 times (or just push it 10 times)
    5. turn headlights to parking lights and back to off 5 times AGAIN
    6. Ebrake off (must have foot on brake to turn off)
    Voila
But thanks cyclone for the relay removal info 👍 It's good to know as well
    >>>EDIT: my daytime running lights seem to have reactivated. didn't do anything but start and drive a few times since the disable.
Looks like pulling the relay maybe the better option afterall.

Just personal preference. They're not required by law in the US. My main goal was trying to get the actual head lights to turn off, while keeping the LED accents on. But the relay disabled the whole thing, so they can't run independently like my VW. I plugged it back in since my wife preferred to have DRLs and it's her car.

I guess the US versions of CX5 don't get the headlight that the rest of the world do. I saw a post on an Australian CX5 forum and their DRLs consist of the halo and a small LED light(not the lowbeam/main headlight) and they look so much better in daytime.

    • @307living7
      @307living7 2 года назад

I agree DRLs are smart to have. Following the steps only partially disables them so you have more options with your headlight controls. The DRLs are still on in the auto position and full on position. Having the ability to turn off your DRLs/headlights can be useful for some people in certain situations. I’m glad there’s a way to bypass the constant on function for people that would like the flexibility.

    • @tommy13965

Drl’s will wear your leds out faster and these headlights cost a lot that’s the reason even though they say it’s only half the light intensity I can’t tell the difference they are pretty bright.
