With the soundtrack video for “Friday The 13th” (1980) two weeks ago (not visible for everybody [VPN client recommended]), we welcomed the Halloween season musically. And as for this week- the last days before Halloween, we will take a listen to the second installment of the “Halloween” series.
“Halloween II” (1981) continued the killing-rampage of the notorious murderer Michael Myers and it’s again in the hands of Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasance) to stop the terror…
Written, as usual by John Carpenter and Debra Hill, this time Carpenter gave the director’s chair to Rick Rosenthal as he himself was busy preparing 1982’s “The Thing”. As known for Carpenter, he invests himself immensely in his movies’ scoring processes but again- due to the busy schedule of “Thing” he wasn’t available to score Halloween II and gave his thematic material from the first installment into the hands of his colleague Alan Howarth (with whom Carpenter would have a very fruitful collaboration since), who did a great job continuing the minimalistic “Carpenter sound” for the second movie. Enjoy!

Hello, Fred! Carpenter has a certain ease in creating main themes, but a lot of difficult in developing them organically. In this second part, he has the help of Alan Howarth ( in the same year he worked as sound designer in " Raiders Of The Lost Ark " ). Howarth repeats what Carpenter had already done , changing the arrangements and adding sound effects. Even so, the nostalgic memories prevails: Carpenter's direction and music in'78, both simple and efficient ( " the Yin and Yang of cinema ", as Carpenter himself says ) evoke a restlessness and anxiety that cinema doesn't more capable of offering us. Thanks and bye!!

    Fred,
Many thanks for providing these splendidly arranged and genuinely frightening soundtracks by Carpenter to his Halloween and Fog movies, bringing back great memories of really wonderful horror movies. Congratulations on all your fine work in restoring and handing on movie themes.

    Grazie Fred🧡👏🏻
Grandi John Carpenter e Alan Howart❤👏🏻
PS: We are starting another year of theater workshop again. We do drills to understand what show we will do this time.
I have already resumed volunteering in the Auditorium cinema/theater and video calls with the psychologist.
    Happy Halloween!🖤🎃🍭👻🦇💀😈🧛‍♂️🧛‍♀️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♀️😱

I have never heard this soundtrack by itself just in the very disappointing sequel to a great movie. It's alright. Doesn't compare to the original in my opinion.
