    I watched several videos by other people and could not figure out how to cast on until I found your video. Thank you so much! I really appreciate the pace and even the tone of your voice as you explain and repeat the explanation. So grateful I found your videos!

    Oh my how bout that I am knitting. I have watched several beginner videos for casting on and your method works. I am actually knitting. Nothing in particular, but practicing the knit stich. I love it. I got frustrated trying to crochet so I am trying my hand at knitting. So far I like it. I count the steps in my head lol but its working. Thank you

    Good instructions except you don’t mention which side the tail is and which side the ball of yarn is. Do we put the tail around the thumb?

  • @mewmew1640
    @mewmew1640 5 лет назад +5

    Let me make sure this is correct. When casting on, the shorter tail yarn is between the index and middle finger and the longer yarn (the working yarn that comes from the skein) is the one that rests on the palm of your hand. Is this correct? I am confused because you keep saysing the yarn on the right side and I'm not sure if you mean the longer piece or the shorter piece. Please answer asap as I am anxious to continue. Thank You!!

      MEW MEW - I thought this exact same thing but After this video I watched her slip knot video and she explains the opposite. The skein of yarn is on the right (held between the left index and middle fingers) and the tail is the one wrapped around the thumb.

    A heartfelt thank you for your instructions on long tail cast on for beginners. After trolling utube x I have lost count and always not able to work out what I was doing wrong. (Unable to have both tails remaining together). Eg. One of the two woollen tails would remain at the beginning of the cast on row!!! Was becoming so so frustrated so once again a big thank you. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

    Back in February, march or April I did the long tail and nailed it. Do you know the German twist cast on

  • @bittersweet82
    @bittersweet82 5 лет назад +1

    I have always preferred the 2 needle cast on, as you don't need to estimate the number of stiches before. Perhaps because when working with thin needles I find holding the yarn with one hand not tight enough, my fingers can never grip 😂

    How do you know how long a tail you need to cast on? Thanks, Lorraine

    • @TrippNBalz
      @TrippNBalz 6 лет назад +2

      I use an inch a stitch, so 12 stitches, 12 inches etc but leave a bit extra. It makes it a bit easier. Hope that makes sense.

    • @Skittle02
      @Skittle02 6 лет назад +3

      I wrap my needle regularly with the yarn (just around and around) for either the # of stitches I need OR if I need a lot of stitches, I'll wrap my needle with 10-20 stitches & then hold the yarn so when I take it off the needle, I know I need that much yarn & that's where I need to make my slipknot OR I use that as a rough measurement of how much I need for say 15 stitches and will then pull that amount of yarn for the # of stitches I need... I always add a little extra too just in case. Sorry, I'm horrible at explaining things. Let me know if this makes sense or if I should try to explain a little better for you. Hope this helps! 😊

    Id like to know what the difference is between this and a simple slip knot one. Does it keep from going undone? Is it to hide the end of the yarn?
