    im trying to learn how to knit and literally was on the verge of tears because i could figure out and this is the explaination that made me get it. i think the saying 1st tail, 2nd, 3rd, helped me understand it a lot better. and the heart comparison at the front

    thanks so much for this tutorial. I stopped and rewound so many times, this old lady burst out laughing over how inept I was, but I did finally get it! Now on to knitting, which I learned 62 years ago but at that time I learned to do the easy cast on. Rumor has it that learning new skills is important for my old brain, so this satisfies that challenge for today. Now,time to see if I remember how to do this after my ramble!😂. Postscript, I did, while chanting “Under, Over, Grab the loop and pull her through”. ( will put that to a musical tune which is my go to trick for remembering new skills)❤️

    Thank you!!! You are the first person who has this tutorial who has said what I can do AFTER because I was wondering if I needed to tie off anything because of the long tail or if I could just start knitting but no one said anything. THANK YOU!!!!!

    Thank you so much. I've watched other videos that said it was easy, but made it so complicated. This is so much easier!

    Just learning the art of knitting. I'm coming from years of crocheting and the last year of mosaic crochet.
    I have found your long tail cast on invaluable and the Continental way of knitting very easy to adapt. Now to get this plastic line to quit hitting me in the face and my yarn from wrapping around it😂 Thank you.

    Ohhh thank you! I had forgotten how to knit in the round after a long break from it and have searched for a great explanation and demonstration - and you have covered both wonderfully!! I am so grateful and can't wait to get started again :)

    Thank you! I always do cable cast on bc that’s what my mom taught me but I wanted to learn long tail. Your explanation is very clear and worked for me! (I tried two other videos but this was best for me!)

    ok too funny you did this tutorial. Every time I start doing this I struggle to remember what strand goes where when you start. It just clicked like the working yarn starts where it stays on er your finger. lol

    What do you do with the remaining tail?

  • @charlotteburton-bellchrisb3202

    Hi - one question - how long should the long tail be? I haven't done much knitting for quite some time but am about to start a cable vest for my husband.

    • @charlotteburton-bellchrisb3202
      @charlotteburton-bellchrisb3202 5 месяцев назад

      I'm probably a reasonably competent knitter - just not familiar with alternative cast-on method and wanted to provide the garment with a firmer edge that the one I've mostly used to date.

    • @SnufflebeanYarn
      @SnufflebeanYarn  5 месяцев назад +1

      I guesstimate but the general rule of thumb is 3 times as long as the width of the project you’re casting on, it’s easy to trim any excess though as this tail just gets sewn in at the end of the project
