Directly from C418's website: “key” is the song that sort of introduces you to the album, whereas “door” is a little bit of a small medley that welcomes you to the world of Minecraft. “Subwoofer Lullaby” is a song I named that way because I always imagine a big speaker somewhere far far in a forest blasting this odd little melody. “Living Mice,” or the opposite would be deadmau5, hah. Joel did help me a bit with making this album, so there’s that reference. “Moog City” is a fun track. Moog actually contacted me on it, telling me how much they liked it. I’m glad they never found out I actually didn’t make it with a Moog device. I kinda created this song because I ordered a Moog, but I didn’t have it yet. “Minecraft” is by far the most minimalist song and also the first song I created for the game. It’s purely pentatonic in scale, builds up very slowly, and then slowly fades away. This is kind of what I built the entire soundtrack around on. “Oxygène” and “Équinoxe” are naturally references to Jean Michel Jarre. “Mice on Venus”, or Mouse on Mars. MOM is a definite inspiration for me, and this album directly. It’s a highly experimental German musician duo that has been super active in the late 90’s and early 2000’s and I obsessed over their work. The song started as a piano solo, but as game development went on, I added a kind of, uh, addendum to it. A little cheeky piece that kind of says, Minecraft is also quite silly. “Thirteen” is a creepy little record you can find in Minecraft. I always wanted the player to find it somewhere deep within a cave, because it’s being played by a device, creating a creepy atmosphere. But it turns out it’s just a creepy song being played. We never actually did that in the game though. “Excuse” was originally intended to be a song for Minecraft’s hell world, the “Nether”. However when I started creating this album, I wanted it to be more than just carbon copies of what’s in the game. I wanted to give people more. So I ultimately decided that “Excuse” would be one of several exclusive songs only to be found on this record. “Sweden” is by far the most popular song, and I think it’s because of it’s very minimalistic chord progression that you can follow very easily. It is also based on the principle the song “Minecraft” is built on. Slow buildup, slowly fading away. “Cat” is a whimsical little track. People seem to like it a lot! I don’t know why! “Beginning” because the end is always just the beginning. And with Minecraft, now we do know that this is not the last album and there is more to discover. That’s why I named it that. “Droopy Likes Ricochet” and “Droopy Likes your Face” are both songs from “life changing moments seem minor in pictures”. It’s a song I haven’t created for anything in particular, but the first Droopy song ended up in the first official Minecraft game trailer. I get a lot of questions on what Droopy says. To be fair, I don’t know. It’s a sample library that you receive if you buy Kontakt. As far as I know, it’s a toy you could buy in the 80’s or 90’s which says random phrases about itself.
mice on venus is like saying goodbye to an old friend and the second half being moving on to new greater things, keeping in mind the great times you may have had together. Dry hands is just nostalgic as hell. Wet hands feels like at the end or beginning of a day.
Dry hands just makes me so emotional for some reason. It reminds me of playing Minecraft with my sister when we were little before I moved from my home
I’ve also cried after playing Minecraft again after only a year because of the pure nostalgia coming directly into your brain just because of your Childhood
I recommend listening to "you're an astronaut lost in space discovering things that humanity will never be able to". Its a playlist by the channel "Nobody". Its very atmospheric and beautiful. There have been many nights I just sit there and listen and stare at the pictures. I try to put myself in the shoes of the idea, to imagine myself as an astronaut lightyears away from earth, just staring into space as my oxygen runs out...
Had to be around May last year, had been a time since I last played Minecraft. Got Alpha I believe on my frontpage. Only time I've ever dropped a tear to a song, oh man.
I'm a bit too late to this but these songs saved me during high school, I was very introverted and if it wasn't for my parents I won't go to school everyday, I listen to these songs while playing minecraft, they're the only sounds I consider a safe space for me, mentally and physically. To see you get emotional is a reflection of how much these songs impacted people too. That makes me feel like I belong somewhere.
Nostalgia can catch you off guard. Music can catch you off guard. Nostalgic music? Sometimes the tears hit the floor before you know anythings happening.
I can't remember how long it has been since I last played on my first ever world. I played it for so long, built so many things and never even got to play it when 1.0 came out. I remember when fences were introduced, how revolutionary it felt to me. I remember how I made a lite version of the Mines of Moria and the 4 "cities" I built and how I got jumpscared by a Creeper as he came from behind of one of the pillars. I remember how I built a pirate ship at the coast, how I built a "nuclear reactor" and the fuel were redstone blocks, secured behind glass..... I don't remember what happened but now the world is gone.... I was never able to stick to another world long enough to even defeat the Ender Dragon during a normal playthrough. Minecraft never felt the same anymore. Thank you for this video buddy. And thank you for the memories you brought up! You're awesome.
I absolutely love it when moog city comes in on the menu screen when i boot it up, Also the songs that arent in game are so epic, wish there was a use to them.
Mice on Venus makes me tear up without fail, every single time. Makes me think of my grandpa who played minecraft with me until he died in the hospital
Man this brought me back to when i use to play on my tablet and my sister use to play on hers and it was just two kids, brother and sister exploring this big blocky world full of wonders...
Tonight we cry together, men. Not in sorrow but for the glory of a time long gone and a future meant to be shared, for our legacy must understand not the purgatory of the internet but its fruits and miracles until the time comes when they too are ready to weather the storm.
Some fun facts about this soundtrack: • You mentioned not remembering hearing _Door_ in-game. That's because it, along with a couple of others, are album-exclusive tracks, either cut from the game or made for the album. _Door,_ specifically, was cut from the game because C418 thought it sounded too upbeat. _Excuse_ was supposed to play in the Nether, but got cut because he wanted the album to be more than _just_ the tracks from the game. • _Moog City_ (pronounced "mogue") was named after and inspired by the Moog synthesizer, but does not use it. However, _Moog City 2,_ the sequel track from _Volume Beta,_ actually *does* use it. • _Thirteen_ was created when there were only 13 cave ambiance sounds, hence the name of the track. In addition to the sounds you commented on in the video, there were also sounds of two arrows being shot from a bow, with only one of them hitting the ground (you may not recognize them at first, since they're the old sounds, but they're there). • _Dog_ is a funny case - it's in neither Java or Bedrock Edition, but it _is_ in the Legacy Console Editions (if you play the _Cat_ disc and let it sit in the jukebox after it finishes, _Dog_ will start playing as an easter egg). It's also used in some of the old Pocket Edition commercials. • _Droopy Likes Your Face_ uses voice samples from an old children's book, "The Droopy Dragon", which had a version that you could use a Magic Wand Reader to read the book aloud for you (although C418 didn't know all of this at the time, and just got the samples off of a website). Also, it and _Droopy Likes Ricochet_ actually originated from one of C418's previous albums, _Life Changing Moments Seem Minor in Pictures,_ but were also included here.
correction: between Life Changing Moments and Volume Alpha there was also a Bandcamp-exclusive album, Little Things. other than that everything you said is correct
@@majman446 Thank you for the correction. I'm not too familiar with C418's works outside of Minecraft (only ever listened to one other album by him, _148),_ and was going off of what the Minecraft Wiki said.

I'm with all the people suggesting you react to Volume Beta of this soundtrack (which is somehow even better) but I also think you'll enjoy the album Miracle by Blackmill :) it makes me feel nostalgic and at home in a way I can't describe
Even if you're not nostalgic for Minecraft this album is just really solid. The tracks are all so clean and ethereal, there's also a clear artistic direction C418 was going for with this album. I feel like he really wanted to make an album that could touch the full spectrum of your emotions. The different motifs are well thought out and the vibe of each song is palpable.
