Beautiful train. The whole train. The cars are fantastic as well as the engine. And beautiful drone footage of the last our lovely fall colours. Great footage Tony 😊 Thanks for posting!
Awesome job. Glad you got to be able to "chase" her. Seeing her run at full speed like that was amazing (I chased her the previous day on her northbound trip !!! Have to admit, it was the first time I've chased a train!!!) you didn't get it in this video, but thanks to some advance notice, and also notifications from someone riding the train, the Penhold School took all the students out and lined the road to watch and cheer her on as she went through town !!!!! I'm so glad they did that for the kids!
For sure there were a lot of people slowing down and pulling over and getting out taking photos that were not real fans at all I ran into a couple of people who were shocked when I came by
Once it returns from its Mexico trip barring any major issues it will be used for special excursions so likely with management and special guests willing to pay the premium. As far as following it in April it will be somewhat dependant on the weather and how far I will be able to go (possibly in to the US although unlikely at this time)
Omg so awesome to see her stretching out her legs after such a long hibernation. As a young man I got to go for a brief ride in her cabin in the very early 2000s when she was getting a bit of work done in New Westminster
2816 is truly one of a kind. As well as being the only non-streamlined CP Hudson to be saved from scrap, she's the only 4-6-4 operating in North America right now. I look forward to when she travels down to Mexico and back.
now that would be a rail trip i wouldn't mind paying $500 for. nice to see steam powered locos out doing what they were designed to do, and not rusting away in the back 40 of some random rail yard. keep up the videos, tony.
I live with a panoramic view of the Red Deer Sub (MP 6) out our front window or our deck. Really disappointed didn't see the train go by! Didn't know to look. How did you find out the schedule?
Thanks, Tony - great. Totally agree w all comments below. Do you know how we can get more info about the planned trip to Mexico? is CP selling tickets yet?? thanks
I have questions, when the engine returns to Canada will it be traveling on the same route its traveling on now, if it does will St. Paul, MN be one of the stops again on the return trip or not? Also when will the return schedule be released?
I do not know for certain but i would assume it will return the same way it came. There will be no public viewings of her on the way back however she will have to stop and take on water so they will likely overnight at depots. She arrives in Mexico city around the 4th of June and it would not stay there long
Greetings from the United States! I know Canada has some very good steam locomotives like this one right here, but I can’t wait because 2816 is going to be going through Canada, the US, and Mexico. I’m might get to see it in the DFW Metroplex area in Texas where I live!
They released a schedule yesterday for the tour and I was just wondering where is it going to be put on display in St. Paul, Minnesota when it’s in St. Paul on May 3.
Curious, was the diesel locomotive a few cars back needed as a backup, or was it providing power as well? I got to see this right by the tracks when it went through Carstairs, AB. I wouldn't mind seeing more of these drive by's in the future.
The diesel is used for 3 reasons, one it supplies electricity to the coaches, it is use to slow the train using dynamic brakes and air (they try to avoid using the steam locomotives breaks) and yes for a backup just in case something goes wrong and they need to move the train without the stem loco. But it was not pulling the train in any way during the session you saw it. It’s amazing to see them running in person
Very nice, good to see it has plenty of pulling power on it's own. Was cool to see a vintage diesel rolling too! I didn't think of the electricity aspect either. Thanks for the explanation!
Awesome job!! Masterful as always. A beautiful presentation of the Empress 2816.
Thank you TG, it was great to see her again

Your very welcome, it was so much fun chasing her

Thank you, yes I heard about the kids at Penhold would have loved to film that! 2816 was amazing to see in person.
You got some great views along its way. Imagine what some drivers would be thinking seeing this unit chugging along beside them. Thanks for sharing.
For sure there were a lot of people slowing down and pulling over and getting out taking photos that were not real fans at all I ran into a couple of people who were shocked when I came by
A very nice video...thanks!! You put some work into this.
Thank you that is appreciated. Have a great Sunday
I was on the road for the whole weekend, so couldn't watch earlier. Very nice to see her running and very well done, Tony! 🙂
Hope you had a good trip, 2816 was a joy to film. Sadly thats it now till the spring as she passed all the tests.
Great job Tony. A lot of effort in chasing the Empress down the rails. Well done.
Thanks Doug, i always enjoy that kind of filming. Its a challenge
The thick black smoke at the beginning was amazing!
Yes, it was a spectacular show and that apparently is normal operation. It’s called sanding the flu.
Beautifully fantastic Tony...👌
Looks like all running quite well..flying low...🤠👍❤
Thank you, glad you liked this one
Hopefully it will run much more often and not just for the CPKC tour. Looking forward to what you will provide during that trip!

Nice catch. I remember as a kid riding the Royal Hudson from North Vancouver to Squamish
Yes, i did as well. I was 7 years old at the time and still have my boarding pass from it
@@TonyVRailfanningWow that's great
Wow, that was so cool to see her running! Very neat perspective watching the chasers from the air also! Fantastic work there Tony! Cheers! (Dave).
Yes, so many people out chasing her. What a beautiful sound it makes. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Dave
A beauty. Wonderfully done.
Thank you Rob, hope all is well

It was so awesome to see. You were very fortunate to have that opportunity
Thanks. It was fluke opportunity, Makes my eyes water to see here active again, kinda feels like the girlfriend who got away
That is a good speed for all those moving parts.
Yes, she is certified to go 50mph

Yes, fully agree it would be a trip of a lifetime. Glad you enjoyed it
Beautiful drone footage
Thank you
Nice drone shots, thanks.
Thank you
Thanks!
Thank you so much!
It would be nice if they ran it across Canada so more of us could see and hear her!
Its a very good possibility they will after the Mexico trip
Awesome video!😊
Thank you Yves. It was fun

I have an inside contact however even I only had 2 days notice of her running up to Edmonton and back. I had to scramble to get the day off.
Thanks, Tony - great. Totally agree w all comments below. Do you know how we can get more info about the planned trip to Mexico? is CP selling tickets yet?? thanks
I have not heard who will be allowed on 2816 to Mexico as of yet but you can bet it wont be cheap and probably executives and such get first priority.
Thanks, T. @@TonyVRailfanning

Hello and thanks for watching. Yes very likely 2816 will go through your area. There has been no public schedule released yet so I am only guessing
@@TonyVRailfanning Ok. Thanks man! I really appreciate it!

@@thomasandfriendssong as I don’t know the fine details of that trip I can’t answer, but it would be in an area that is accessible by the public

@@geoffletkemann653 yes, back in the days of steam they had oil lamps and wood or coal fires stoves no electric power in the coaches
When did 2816 get a 3rd tender and what is it's purpose??
They borrowed it from BNSF and its an extra water tender so they can go longer distances without filling up
Wooooohoooo 🙂!
Pretty much sums it up 😀
notgood job! there are two locomotives one with diesel engine !!!
The diesel locomotive is there to help with breaking and supply power for the coaches. It is not there to help it move
