Doesn’t matter who killed Sully. In the prior scene, Stef didn’t kill Sully because he realised the brother was effectively the living dead. Speaking as a non-UK based viewer I get that the level of scrutiny is always going to be higher in the people for whom this feels closer to home but I feel like some of these points were just them being nitpicky. Just a few things off the top:
Lauren's passing makes sense if you look at it from the lens of postpartum depression. Given all the trauma she went through last season during her pregnancy, the fact that she wouldn't name the baby, couldn't find him beautiful/cute, wouldn't breastfeed, and kept thinking he looked like her ex were all big signposts spelling out that she was going through postpartum depression. Then the drug addiction just compounded everything. The fact that Jaq took her out and she had one good day doesn't undo all that. And in fact, in many cases when people suffering from depression take their own lives, it's not always when they're at the worst of it, it's when they get a little bit better and have more energy to do things.
Steph being super quiet and not emotional while grieving makes sense. He's a 13-14yo boy who's just lost his parents, his best friend, his brothers (Aaron too since be basically dipped) and got placed in care. Boys aren't generally taught how to process their emotions in western society at baseline. A boy his age, and in his situation doesn't have the emotional language to grieve properly, and also doesn't even have the means to externalise his grief through violence, so keeping it all in is the most obvious thing for him to do. He was quiet and angry for most of the show except for the times he was with the girl because that's the only time he got to feel like a kid again. But I thought him not killing Sully was actually a great choice by the writers. It shows that his character has a path to growth and breaking out of the cycle of violence.
Dushane going from cool and calculating when things were going his way to moving mad and making dumb choices that seemed out of character makes sense. He got double crossed and all his money was gone from one day to the next, your head would be hot too. That's a classic character arc for this type of story, Tony Montana, Michael Corleone, Walter White, Franklin Saint, they all started panicking when the walls started closing in on them and their empire started to crumble around them. Could the writing have been tighter? Sure, but this wasn't a bad choice per se. They just didn't stick the landing.
And as for them feeling like someone should've been clearly anointed as the next top boy? This isn't the crown. There isn't always going to be an heir apparent. The whole point of these shows is that eventually this lifestyle consumes and destroys everyone and everything in its path. Jamie, Sully, Dushane, and a boatload of collateral damage. But they all get got eventually. There's no winning and ultimately everyone is worse off. That's the point. That's how drug dealing affects poor marginalised communities.
As for them not showing who killed Sully, maybe it would've felt satisfying to put a face to the name, but it ultimately doesn't matter. He had gotten to the end of his road, had too many enemies and too few allies. It could've been one of a number of people, Si, the Irish crew, Jaq, but the trail of destruction and death he left in his path caught up to him. A story doesn't have to be a bad story because it doesn't end in a way that satisfies your own preferences. Would more episodes have been better? Maybe. But it could've also been worse. But I'd rather a show that feels like it ended leaving us wanting more than one that overstayed its welcome. If they didn't have material for 10 episodes, they made the honest choice by wrapping it up.

The writer(s) either done an all-nighter or they were just incompetent. There must have been a contractual stipulation that meant Top Boy *had* to end, instead of everyone deciding its life had come to an end, which is why it felt so forced and rushed to finish. There's too much life left in the story and the characters to dead it like this, so a spin-off/reinvention may be necessary, like Half Cast dying.

Looks like the budget that was giveN for 1&2 definitely was not given to season 3.
The jump from season 2 & 3 just didn't flow - the cuts that was made was very apparent. Lil simz character Shelly has a whole daughter that is nowhere to be seen & what about curtis's sister why did she not come back for her nephew?
What a missed opportunity for how great season 3 could of truly been is disappointing. Even to the fact there was no red carpet roll out for the premier either....

I think the budget went to Kane and Ashley. Lol They were the two big leads and probably each season they wanted more money it’s only right. For real maybe all the returns wanted a lil more than they got last time. That’s where I think the money went. Netflix is not tight on the purse strings. Lol And as far as being restricted did you see where they have executive producer credits so I believe they had some say so.

Let me be very brutal- it does not matter who killed Sully. It could’ve been ANYONE- and that was the point. Once that happened, the show as far as we’re concerned is done. Unless you want a spinoff or somethin, there is nothing left for us in the story of TopBoy.
If you wanted more than that- you’re being greedy. It’s not the show or the writing’s fault you want everything spoonfed to you. Although I do very much agree it should’ve been a longer season, it would’ve still ended the same way. A longer season gives us more with the Irish, a real proper descent into overdose with Lauren, the destruction of Summerhouse and the aftermath.

One thing us as viewers need to remember is that the road life IS NOT glamorous. Whether you’re a kingpin or not, you can die in the most underwhelming and undignified manner.
Another thing we have to take into consideration is that when someone is under a lot of stress and anxiety, they’re more likely to make mistakes (E.g Dushane killing that man in the flat and not ‘tidying’ up afterwards). Dushane’s character also depicts how desperation can manifest. He’s willing to avoid prison by any means necessary, even if it means stealing from your brother.
And again - the roads are not glamorous. It’s a dirty game, and you can trust NOBODY.
Sully has Jaq and Dushane stealing from him within what seems a 48 hour period. It’s painful, but it’s the game.
Although it was rushed, I enjoyed it. But it should have been at least 10-12 episodes. I’d have really loved to see more interaction with the Irish guys and more details on Jaq’s sister death. I also would have liked to see more intimacy between Dushane and his lady, but instead we were given privy to two 15 year olds having underage sex..

You guys have valid points but tbh I enjoyed it and although the whole last season was dark and gloomy, it was realistic and that’s the beauty I see in it. I just feel like the message they were trying to bring across was this is how stuff always ends when you get involved in selling drugs. Possible aiming it at the younger generation as a lot of them are not on job and just gassed because they think it’s a cool lifestyle. And so if top boy gave you guys the happy ending or fairly tale you lot wanted then what kind of message would that send to the youth. Only way to get a message across to them was na last season, in the end, errrbody gannn.

The person who penned the series absolutely messed up like this was written horribly, considering this multi-year saga had us glued to our seats for as long as it was.
No funerals full stop had me like wtf, no send offs on the last season??? We can do a whole protest arc but no depiction of black funeral practices? No 9 night for Lauren???
Curtis's sister not making an appearance after the baby was born or at least her or someone to do with her introducing Lauren to dark would be great or even if they gave half the amount of detail to the safe sex segment of the show to Lauren's post partum (as it was never acknowledged it was that) and how it affected her would've been great.
New characters introduced with no time to develop them to be killed and tbh you're trying to tell me the Irish gang only consisted of 2 man? Their whole culture prioritises community and the Irish gang only had 2 man? I find that pretty hard to believe.
Low key though it was kinda hilarious the season where Sully was top boy was an absolute shambles, it makes sense because he's an act first ask questions later type person and couldn't fathom the idea of consequences to actions.
Shelly's daughter going missing (because where was she lmaoo) and Dushane being hot and cold with Shelley since the beginning of top boy already tells me her wanting to start a franchise with him was completely delulu, like how did you think that was going to go?
Dushane doing a 10k with no heart issues had me creasing too like it seemed like his heart condition only flared up when he was worried about money lmaooo
All in all this feels like a fan with no street knowledge penned a fan fiction they adapted into the last season. There's so many choices that didn't need to be made, characters were completely off model and they needed more time to actually make this feel like a satisfying send off. I don't mind the way how it ended with the last episode as the street catches up to everyone if it was developed alot more or more logical decisions a la the last couple seasons were made

Sometimes we need to be aware that many movies end in a way that encourages discussion. Do we have to see everything laid out. Jac stole the food because it caused her sister's death so I believe she killed Sulley before he got her and she will get out of the game with her partner and raise Lauren's son in a drug free environment. Lauren started taking drugs mixed with post natal depression and the mental and physical abuse of her baby father who she killed.
It is a gritty messy life they lead, why expect it all to make sense. 😂😂😂

as someone who has watched ALL the seasons, I think this season was masterfully done. one thing I notice is topboy knows how to cycle between traditional action and elements of a psychological thriller. to me, this season was a lot more psychological. they didn't really need to rely on the same old tropes. They spoke to many themes and the physical and emotional ramifications of street life.

In regards to Jamie, everyone needs to remember the story was never about him. It’s about Dushane and Sully, that’s why he needed to go, the focus began to shift too much. Jamie was just a character not the main in the story. No funeral for jamie? No conclusion
Dushane running without heart issues was mad, adrenaline WOULD make his heart fucked even more 😂 every time he had an arena line rush his heart was an issue.
Jaq with the drugs and then going back? Someone who’s more than aware of how the game goes? HUH? How on earth they thought that would make sense..
Shelly and the 9 shop nail chain but barely had a strong enough clientele for ONE shop? What sort of shit business plan 😂 also they had zero chemistry.. is that your bredrin? Your girl? Just one of the girls on the ends??? What happened to her daughter?
Aaron leaving makes sense because he didn’t care to stay for his brothers anyway. He is like ‘I don’t like stress’
Dushane was acting very out of character, the murder, lizzy etc just weird
They gave the gun to the white boy???¿ whyyyy would you do that? The great escape was trash.. how can he not be easily directed to the getaway vehicle? Why we’re there only 2 men..
The writing was just a little sloppy and rushed.. but it definitely had to end with Sully and Dushane, that’s how it started.

I definitely agree that the season felt rushed. Overall I enjoyed the season but there were many missing pieces that could have given the season more substance.
Kane's acting was phenomenal and I hope gets more opportunities to film.
I don't think Ashley Walters liked the script So it felt like he was just there to do the job. I've personally seen him on stage and his acting standards are top class and something felt off with some of the scenes.
The story line with Lauren was weak and lacked substance, definitely could have linked that to Sully by telling the yout that he had to keep serving her even though he doesn't want to.
I totally understand why Aaron wasn't in it as he didn't really have a story but we could have seen him in one final scene to close his story.
I liked Stef's story, it felt quite real but again, there could have been more.
All the political stuff, protesting, eviction was cool.
They left us not knowing who killed Sully and that's pretty annoying.

16:00 I think it was more powerful that Dushane died such a disgraceful death, whimpering and shouting over the fence because it showed how far he had been brought down, all the reputation and fame didn’t mean anything in the end; he bled out in public like an animal.
the fence itself showed the separation that had been growing and growing between them to the point that they couldn’t even see each other as brothers anymore.
And of course it had to be Sully losing his temper and killing Dushane because that’s how it’s been all through their friendship, Dushane feeling bigger and smarter than Sully and Sully snapping and changing up the whole situation to try and prove himself.
The season was bad overall but certain moments like Dushanes death, Lauren’s death, the madness at the care home, etc were done well imo

Agree 6 episodes were way too short but within the context the characters were given a lot of things being discussed make sense.
Dushane lost ALL his money, got finessed out of like 16mil of course he’s angry. Gone from being the topboy to on the run for a sloppy murder (out of character but understandably his head was gone) it’s sad how he went out but I think the theme was about this life catching up with people.
Jaq lost her sister she loves to drugs that she was selling, of course she’s going to move mad. Lauryn went out too quick but it was clearly post natal mixed with murdering your baby dad when you’re not about that life..
Sully has literally never used his head. He killed glasses don (sorry forgot his name), killed Jamie. Dushane was the brains so Sully being emotional made sense.
Could go on but really the script weren’t strong enough, Irish should have had a bigger role and more episodes to pad out the story. I don’t think it was as bad as people are making out but I do like that there was no happy ending because this life shouldn’t end happy if we’re being real

I bet Ashley wasn't happy with how they portrayed his character, they mentioned in interviews they commonly had clashes with the writing team trying to steer the characters in directions that wasn't realistic (snitching / running away or backstabbing etc)...
Seems like they wanted to kill off the main characters to do a spin off to make more bread in the future, with the storylines with lithe / lizzie etc
