This is the coolest thing I have ever seen. I REMEMBER this from 82, my mom watched the show and it was the first time I'd ever seen them. Have since seen them in concert over 20 times and even got to meet them a couple of times. This is too cool!!! Thank you for posting this...!
Wow, this is so great to see and pretty historical as I hear Guiding Light is being cancelled after a gazillion years of being on the air. Well, I think this just proves how cool this soap was to have a great band like the B's on. It should be deemed the coolest soap ever.
Can you imagine what is was like for me to come home from. school and to see my favorite band on my Mom’s soap opera? I had recently bought Party Mix, my first album and could not believe it, freaked out and danced - then saw another song! My poor parents thought that I was crazy, LOL!
What your Moms were doing while you were at school! This is incredible! I remembered a friend of mine when we were in the 8th grade (1981), telling me about this nutty band that used smoke detectors & toy pianos, also named after a Big Ass Bomber (OK, a Big Axx Hairdo)...I was hooked at smoke detectors. To top it off, they were from Athens, about 60 miles away. Years later, I married a chick who was into 'The Guiding Light". But this was several years after the B-52s were on the show. I got into the Soap with her & we watched for a few years as Rick & Riva & all of the other krazy, sordid, Venezuelan, back-stabbin' great over-the-top stuff progressed. BUT, I didn't find out that The Guiding Light had such great insight into New Wave like the B-52s were featured until TODAY...NOV 2023!!! Just when you think you know "history>, something else new comes along to blow your mind! I found this via a RUclips video of a Martha Quinn segment on MTV...& wow, here I am.
I also remember when Romeo Void, Rachel Sweet & Loverboy were guests on "Wired For Sound" Discotheque haha CBS was trying to compete with ABC's General Hospital for the "hip" youth audience. THANK YOU for posting this . I remember coming home from school to see this much to my shock and disbelief .
I read a few times that this was one of Ricky's personal highlights in his B-52s career. Guiding Light was on for years beforehand, so I guess this was a matter of getting on a show his parents (or maybe just his Mom) used to watch.
The "Wired For Sound" appearance I'd love to see again is Judy Collins doing "It's Gonna Be One of Those Nights" from her then-current "Time Of Our Lives" album in 1982. I wasted no time going right out and buying it. If I'm not mistaken, Loverboy(!) also appeared.
@@manhattanc He started the duct tape thing seemingly in 1979. He didn't have strap locks (I'm not sure if they were invented yet,) so this was the way to keep the strap from coming off.
They were promoting "Mesopotamia", but yes, it is indeed a weird choice... Should have played "Mesopotamia" (the song) instead, but maybe it wasn't funny enough for the show ?
I'm sure what happened was that the producers were unfamiliar with the songs. Probably didn't even listen to them. They just saw a list of the songs on their new album and thought "Throw that beat in the garbage can" was a funny title so they told them to play that. You know, shiny objects and all that.

Dj Tennessee Romeo Void at Wired For Sound? Now that I would like to see! To bad they couldn't have gotten Fear.
"Calm down, you animals". Yeah, the crowd was on the verge of getting out of control!
I remember this - I borrowed the Mesopotamia EP from the library after seeing them on GL
@MCRomg - you're joking, right? Soap operas have been around since before TV, on radio. Guiding Light started on radio in 1937.

I saw this show at the FOX in Atlanta in 1982. I was 15. My first concert.
i wish i was around to see this on television.

OMG! This is HYSTERICAL. The Bs are awesome as always but the "audience" is definitely NOT a B-52's crowd.
Ricky's Mosrite!
with duct tape!!??!!
It's a 1966 Mosrite Ventures Mark V model. I've looked them up.

Man, talk about a mash-up!!!
Wow!I had no idea..wonder what my Mom thought of this :)
the girl at the table in the red sounded like Adrienne Barbeau
lol@cindy on sax
ME TOO! No one EVER believed me.
WHY on earth did the b's do THIS song? I heard the show requested it.

Weird place for a commercial, no?
i watched this when it originally aired, at my grandma's house. she... did not like it.
I didn't know they had Soap Opera's back in the 80s! I'm actually like...shocked! But anyways...love The B-52's
Audrey Vasquez wow?!? The 60s-80's soaps were at their height. They've been around since early radio days. Smh.
Some of the worst acting I have ever seen, who are these people
