Back in the day we could rent games from video shops. I think this game is in my top 5 of games we used to rent the most. I even went as far as to save the music from mission 4 to my tap deck (and later to Mini-Disc player).....how i miss those days. Even though i was young, life was nowhere as political as everything is for all ages today. So glad i had the privilege of having decent childhood where social media wasn't a thing yet. Playing outside or inside was always an option. My kids nowadays i can't even get out of their room or from their cell phones....i guess it's the times of now and i am just getting old...(80's baby)
SNES glory days, my brother and I played the snots out of this game. Being NES DD fans, when this hit the SNES we were blown away. The grab and rapid kick was amazing not to mention the awesome stage music.
I still have this game on my SNES. I remember the small details...like the enemies getting pissed off when you throw them. Best soundtrack. Best weapons. Best Double Dragon game ever made.
It had reversals, that charge meter to switch up your attacks, BACK attacks, and like you said an amazing soundtrack. We need this game on consoles now.
I have three carts of this game and I just beat it yesterday. Amazing game. I didn’t grow bored while playing and I e been playing this game since the first year it came out
I love these old retro games that you didnt need perks your character was always powerful enough to fight the enemy just you have to learn how to use his abilities. Good work, I remember only getting up to the kungfu master at the temple and getting my butt kicked.
Good point. I'm still enjoying DD Gaiden, but I still think this game was the peak of the DD series. Glad it's getting a new digital release in November.
One Best of the Best games in the all library of Double dragón franchise, nice grafxs, nice soundtrack AND nice Gameplay it's one másterpiece one instant classic of cult 😃👍
It is Double Dragon 4 actually, because 3 of em were released for Nes, DD1 was released but I think not world wide, the 2nd was the most famous and most known world wide, then 3rd was called the Sacred Stones and u could employ the Ninja and an old dude which specialized in fist attacks. Amazing I remembered that much and without checking Wikipedia. Then there came some spin-offs with Battletoads and for Gameboy and even for Sega Genesis i think, the latest DD game was called DD Neon but I think it received bad reception, I only know there was 1 track called Mango Tango worth listening to if u like 90's music.
This game is a mixed bag. The music is excellent and the moves are awesome. It's probably the visually appealing DD game ever in regard to the moves you can use. But at the same time, there's very little veriety in the types of enemies and the bosses are so pathetic it's hard to tell them apart from the regualr foes. They don't even get their own boss music.
This game seems like it could have been an absolute gem, but was held back a bit by a small ROM size, and maybe rushed development. The fighting feels good, and the music is excellent, but the lack of enemy types is a bummer. Where are the huge Abobo's? The whipping women, and so on? I'd love to see the developer (I forget their name, the ex-IREM devs), who made the enhanced versions of WildGuns, Pocky & Rocky, Ninja Warriors, for current gen, have a crack at an enhanced Super Double Dragon. With additional enemy types, larger characters, more animations, arranged music, blood, more stages, more interesting bosses. Also, I forget what is different about this, than the Japanese Super Famicom version, but I do see some differences. I own the SFC cart.
'when i die then you can play' but that never happened lol, always had to watch how my brothers played the game back in '95 ..but finally it was turn.. in 2017 i downloaded the snes game
This looks pretty good! Never had a chance to try this one out! The Gameboy, Nes and GG ones were pretty amazing or fun! (Yes, even the GG weird ver. cause you can use a gun, lol!) 2 players Nes Double Dragon 2 though - stunning! 👾👍 DD3 on Nes I find was pretty good too imo - changing characters like Mega Man is awesome! 👍 Never really had a chance or remember the Gen(MD) vers., but they had great graphics!
Never finished any DD game. This one is pretty unique with blocking mechanics, but it's boring and repetitive 1 hour long mash them up. Nevertheless thx for the video!
I remember renting this and enjoying the block mechanics, but feeling let down that there weren’t as many places to knock or throw guys off a building or into a pit. And what is that ending? Still, there’s a lot of interesting stuff going on in this game. But I think Final Fight and Streets of Rage had passed it by. Double Dragon just felt old and worn out by this point.
It's more about the journey than the destination. ;) Oh, and the sweet ending music during the credits scroll. Such an awesome track! I'd love to see an expanded edition of this, with everything improved, on modern consoles.
Not as good as the Japanese version (for some reason the Double Dragon theme is used in the city slums and we have some generic sounding music for the title screen and final mission).
It is such a shame, that in 2024 there r no more DD games last game known as DD neon but think it received bad reception. I hope a fan or someone can make a new DD game which makes the owner of DD open their ryes and let them know that old fans want nostalgia. If i would put my thoughts into how i would want a new DD game i would make it a beat em up in 2D but with slightly improved 3D mechanics into it ..and put a level up or some kind of system where u get experience by beating up your enemies and specialize in either combat, skills, talent, health, weapons master, things i put your points in and would for example make them block enemy attacks more efficiently, maybe simple life and strength upgrade, then maybe a tab where u can upgrade your combos and 2 players together doing the famous double spin leg attack, or uppercut or flying knees like from previous DD games. Upgrades like maybe keep your weapon the whole entire stage instead of losing it after a few use. More weapons like sais, bo staff, tonfas and nunchucks. If they use the angry meter bar maybe and an upgrade which would make it last longer or fill faster so they can use the flying hurricane kicks like Ryu and Kens tatsumaki senpu kyaku. Maybe do a special attack where 2 flying dragons come out of them 2 brothers and knocks all enemies on the screen. The possibilities r endless. Throw in some cool tricks from real life martial arts. Like 720 or axe kicks or something..

This has always been my favorite double dragon game. Wide variety of moves and an awesome soundtrack.
SNES glory days, my brother and I played the snots out of this game. Being NES DD fans, when this hit the SNES we were blown away. The grab and rapid kick was amazing not to mention the awesome stage music.
Best Double Dragon game. It was ahead of its time. It needs a rerelease on current consoles
Totally right, this Double Dragon is the best!
You need play Double Dragon Advance
this is the best for sure !! played this game non-stop couldnt get enough CO-OP was great
Good news. Apparently both Super Double Dragon and Double Dragon Advance are getting digital releases on all current consoles on November 9th.
@@alucard624 Whoa!! That IS good news!!

Very underrated game
I used to rent this back in 1993 and friend and I played it all the time.
Fighting the same 3 enemies over and over again the videogame
Nostalgia 😥😢😭
I have three carts of this game and I just beat it yesterday. Amazing game. I didn’t grow bored while playing and I e been playing this game since the first year it came out
The boss type players if you push up + block, you'll catch wherever they punch at you, then you can unload on them
I love these old retro games that you didnt need perks your character was always powerful enough to fight the enemy just you have to learn how to use his abilities. Good work, I remember only getting up to the kungfu master at the temple and getting my butt kicked.
It's funny to see how a game released 30 years ago has more movements variety and depth than Double Dragon Gaiden.
Good point. I'm still enjoying DD Gaiden, but I still think this game was the peak of the DD series. Glad it's getting a new digital release in November.

payphones crazy to think the 90's would be the last decade we'd see em again.📞
Cool Kung fu fighting this was my childhood!
I played the Super Famicom version which is known as Return of Double Dragon. Some of the songs are different. The level 1 song definitely is.
I think this would be like Double Dragon 4
The fact Double Dragon IV didn't play like this at all was such a letdown. Why they decided to make it look and play like the NES ports made no sense.
Super Double Dragon is Double Dragon 4🐉🐉

It was some good carnage.

Super Double Dragon was released in North America on October 8th 1992 not in 1994🐉🐉
This game seems like it could have been an absolute gem, but was held back a bit by a small ROM size, and maybe rushed development. double dragon 3 was the last double dragon for the NES
'when i die then you can play' but that never happened lol, always had to watch how my brothers played the game back in '95 ..but finally it was turn.. in 2017 i downloaded the snes game
I wonder if the first boss was inspired by casino mogul Steve Wynn.
Can you guys tell me tricks and moves in this wonderfull game?
This looks pretty good! Never had a chance to try this one out! The Gameboy, Nes and GG ones were pretty amazing or fun! i noticed 1 of the enemies was a palette swap of the main character.
Never finished any DD game. This one is pretty unique with blocking mechanics, but it's boring and repetitive 1 hour long mash them up.

Most beat'em up games get boring AF after awhile unfortunately.

Hey guys I never played double dragon on snes before.
snes version of streets of rage 😎👍!!
All that work button mashing for a little text at the end 🤷
It's more about the journey than the destination. ;) Oh, and the sweet ending music during the credits scroll. Such an awesome track! I'd love to see an expanded edition of this, with everything improved, on modern consoles.
Bimmy and Jimmy!
Only took 29 times to knock down Duke.
@AL82 Retrogaming Longplays
How old are you if i may ask?
why do the bad guys burp when they die?
They don't burp they barf when they die
no boss battles sadly😥
Not as good as the Japanese version (for some reason the Double Dragon theme is used in the city slums and we have some generic sounding music for the title screen and final mission).
Pretty poor ending!
There should've been minor bosses at the end of the levels.
