@@NBSV1 When I was crew, our driver was in his 60's, about 6'4", and 250-300 lbs. His bailout from a near lay down position in the streamliner was much less graceful than Alex's.
Bitter sweet for me watching you in your infancy of land speed. I wont get into the bitter, but the sweet is the spark I saw in your eye. Your going to do awesome!!!
Our lil Lady is fixin to go real frickin fast…… always knew you were destined for faster and faster speeds…….God Speed Alex Taylor….. go fast and straight…… see you in the record books…….stay safe go fast and be pretty……👍🇺🇸🏁🇺🇸🏁🇺🇸🏁🇺🇸🏁🇺🇸🏁🇺🇸🏁🇺🇸🏁
Bonneville tech inspection is most definitely an experience that makes other tech inspections seem a lot less serious. Thanks for sharing and bringing back memories from when I was crew at Speed Week as a teenager over 20 years ago.
You guys don't know how lucky you are, in Australia the salt flats are a 2+ hour drive on rough dirt, into the middle of nowhere. If it rains hard you can be stuck there for days/ weeks. It's a commitment. Having said that it's also an awesome adventure, ask Frieburger he's done it.
Well that was quite intimidating! But like the majority of safety procedures there are sound reasons behind them. You nailed it though so that's great. So once the salt has dried all you have to do is drive that car really really really fast - that's the fun part! 😊
It's a pretty daunting thing. I had to go through the same thing with a 200mph roadster a few years back and I have to say it's one of the most full on things I've ever done. Having Keith and Tonya there is awesome, they're two of the nicest people on the planet and having them with you will help break down the "salt racing barriers".
Great video because racers don’t typically record the rookie bailout test and procedure. As I look forward to doing one myself in the future I found this very educational. And yes it’s an intimidating thought for all of us but watching it take place helped with that as well. Good luck this week.
Hei😀 I`m glad to se you try this. And when i see this i`m glad a new young generation drivers like you want to try this, and same time i`m glad you have all the seniors there to guide you and make sure you are safe. Go Fast young Lady🙃🙃 From Norway.
I was @ Bonneville as a spectator. The support vehicles were very impressive! Seeing this video gives me a great respect for everyone and everything involved with the safety of everybody that's at all the events there!
seems like a great group of guys running the event, cant wait to see more of speed week on your channel. really want to see a long video series of Dennis building a land speed car for future events.
when i lived in Ogden Utah in 92 they had a bunch of salt flat racers at SLC autoroma and I talked with them they was all nice just like all the racers at the dragstrip we hung out and raced in Magna Utah which is gone now. But I look at land speed as just long distance drag racers
I Alex I’m new to your channel!! This is awesome to see something completely different from all the other channels. Who else is doing salt flats racing!! I haven’t seen anyone try this event. Good luck on this adventure your on!!!
I like the fact that they're all older experienced guys that Alex has behind her, a wealth of knowledge minimizing known risks!. If Alex put her mind to it she could become the first female Astronaut to navigate a spacecraft to the moon, she certainly has all the attributes to achieve it!!!
I'm surprised bail out procedures aren't more common. They're something every driver should practice regardless of what series they're running in. I hope you get to run flat out before you have to leave.
I completely agree, demonstrating bail out procedure ought to be a part of every motorsports discipline, except bikes of course but even then knowledge of what NOT to do when track surfing ought to be talked through. Most have to find out the hard way and that’s not a fun experience.
I would of been disappointed if you didn't video this now your getting closer to one of your favorite goals good luck and God bless you and protect you
Alex, the guys that seemed to be intimidating are there trying very hard to make sure you survive the "need for speed" that is their common denominator. They want all the competitors to go home with the ten fingers and toes that brung them. If you had fluffed the first try, they would have coached you to see you had it straight and right. I've never driven any of these, but two events were stunning- because of folks like the ones pushing paper and doing the tests. Awesome trail you are on there, Alex!
The little cafe right off the highway used to have the Best fried Serrano peppers.. The Mexican food was good also.. Wendover is cool as you can be in Nevada and Utah at the same time, one foot in Utah and 1 in Nevada.. Good luck younglady Godspeed... (I can see El Mirage from my back yard) I have never been to a Speed Week at either place although I have been there..
Good luck. You made the bail out easy because you have done that routine many times in the 55 during normal runs. Shut it down and get out. You are way ahead of the average first timer.
Some people think 200 in a quarter mile is easy. O.k. wish you the best on the salt. It's very different on smooth tires for five miles. Don't give up up its more of a thrill for five miles than a quarter mile.
I really like what they’re doing with their 55 and will watch everything they do with sick week, etc. but I wouldn’t walk across the street to watch one of these Bonneville cars like watching water boil
I'm very glad that they don't just let a person get in a car and go as fast as they can. Safety for the driver is most important!
The best part of this video was the quick response of the inspector watching your bail out. "I'll sign that off." 😂
I imagine they’re used to big old guys struggling to get out of tight cars.

I'm jealous Alex. Best of luck. Go get a hat! BTW, it's amazing how well pinlock visor inserts help with fogging.
What an interesting adventure ! Thanks for taking us along ; very much appreciated.

I like the idea of "wicked tight" belts.
OMG the guy didn't know Alex Taylor 😂
Not sure the papers actually said Alex Taylor, could be why he was confused. Alex is as far as I know only an nickname. 🙂
Don't forget your sunscreen!
Speaking of Steves, I think we need Steve Morris to try land speed.
I wonder if someone put in a fighter jet ejector seat if they'd have to demonstrate it, heh heh.
i didnt see dad taylor !!

Drag racers running over 150 in the quarter should be practicing a bail out procedure. So it’s second nature when the poop hits the fan.
can you wash those gloves or do something to brake them it fast? i hate new gloves, good luck
