    As a truck driver, I've pulled all kinds of trailers. From 53 ft all the way down to 8 ft utilities. This is by far the absolute best looking and looks like it functions extremely well and looks very sturdy also. Would love to buy one of these at some point. Finally a smaller trailer that wont beat the absolute living hell out of whatever your hauling

      Thanks Nick, yes they do run smoothly as the airbag are the suspension as well as the lifting mechanism, we are working on a design for a two-wheel version that could be used for motorcycles and golf carts etc.

    Excellent engineering, the only thing I would add is a mechanical locking mechanism for the airbag hinges. I'm sure they are tough, but just for peace of mind in case one blows.

    • @ultimatemanshed
      @ultimatemanshed  Год назад +1

      so, the problem here is if a bag does blow, and we have never had one blow in four years with hard use and very adverse conditions :-) even if you lock the wheel down so that it’s on the ground in a fixed position you still have a leak out of the bag, and as a result, the entire side will drop, so the solution is to simply have taps on each of the feeders to the airbags, and that particular tap can be switched off that being the case, the wheel can simply stay in the down position and follow along where ever the trailer goes so, locking the wheel in any position, if a bag should get a hole in, it doesn’t solve the problem of the air escaping from the system, for that, we need a different solution and it simply means having a valve that can be switched off after the Airbag entry point, and we already have these on some trailers

      @@ultimatemanshed how are airbags ( in general ) good about leak down? Do you need to have compressor power all the time if your load is static for a while, and you're using the bags for leveling? I plan to have a mechanical foot system for long term off the ground storage, and wouldn't want the chassis sitting on the ground for long periods of time.
      Thanks!

    • @ultimatemanshed
      @ultimatemanshed  Год назад +5

      @@paradoxworkshop4659 The airbags themselves should not leak at all. All the leaks we have encountered occur at the connections. If we have a leak down over time and this does occur it's always a tube or connector. There are a good products available for these joints which will eliminate then.
      There is no reason other than your use case that would be harmful to have the chassis sitting on the ground for long periods. a lot of our clients do that and remove the batter key, which prevents theft.

      Thank you for your comment! Airbag suspension systems are becoming increasingly popular in a wide range of vehicles, including trailers, trucks, and passenger cars. The use of airbags in trailer suspension setups offers a number of advantages over traditional spring-based suspensions, including smoother ride quality, better load distribution, and improved stability.
      In terms of driving performance, airbag suspension trailers are known for their smooth and stable ride, even on rough or uneven roads. The use of airbags allows for greater control over the suspension, with adjustments made in response to changes in load distribution, road conditions, and driving dynamics. This results in improved handling and stability, particularly when cornering or navigating tight spaces. In other words you can't even feel the trailer following even a light towing vehicle :-)

    I love that accent my man. I'm half Kiwi myself. 🥝. I'm in Arkansas USA and I was born here. My dad used to drive big trucks in New Zealand before he came here.

    The sun will destroy those air bags in a few years. They ought to be covered. Cool idea.

      Thanks, however the airbags are treated and we have had soe in service for four years, none have deteriorated yet and if they do, well lets just replace them eh, they are cheap.:-)

    Only thing i think i would work on is a mechanical valve and level sensor, this way you can have smoothness when you lift and when you lower. Also it wlil level itself while driving.

    • @ultimatemanshed
      @ultimatemanshed  Год назад +1

      Hi Christian, I really appreciate your idea about using a level sensor for this application. However, I wanted to let you know that there could be a small issue with that approach. For the suspension system to work effectively, the chassis needs to be able to move around freely. If we installed a level sensor, it would pick up all sorts of movements, making it tricky to calibrate and causing some complexity.
      Right now, we're setting the level by adjusting the ride height of the trailer when lifting stops, and it stays level until it's lowered again. This approach does keep the trailer level while it's traveling.
      Thanks so much for your input! We're always looking for ways to improve our processes, so please keep the ideas coming!

    Would an auto levelling function be useful, seeing as you can control each side independently? Would it be expensive? I had a quick look round for a suitable solenoid, but without knowing exactly what it would take, I would have been guessing.
