Am sorry about your continued power cut. It occurred to me that the authorities should be able to pinpoint the time of the cut to the passing of a cargo ship in the harbour. There was a news video the other day about Sweden and Denmark investigating a Chinese ship dragging an anchor to sabotage their cables. There was damage to the anchor so they knew which ship did it. Perhaps also in your case the crew felt an urgent need to have "revenge against society", which is increasing in their own country, i.e. driving cars into crowds of people, etc. Here in Australia recently a Chinese man threw a scalding cup of coffee over an infant, inflicting severe burns. Although his face was caught on camera, to my knowledge he has not been apprehended. Just sayin' !

High voltage cables can deteriorate and fail on their own, and if there's and extended length of damage it could take time a long time to source and splice in a replacement section. It appears that Siargao's 24/7 power cable was installed in 2019 so I wonder if before that on-island generation facilities were in used and could be brought back on line. Looks like the Island uses about 6 megawatts of power or about what a couple of large diesel locomotive sized generators could produce. It's not too difficult to connect generators to substations if there are any that could be shipped in. Smaller generators could be connected to parts of the grid and areas powered on intermittently. We used to do that in emergency situations in villages and Oil and Gas facilities in Alaska.
I'm also surprised that given the amount of solar and wind energy, and high cost of electricity more people have not installed basic solar systems.

@@worldlydestinations I am familiar with possible reasons you are limited in being able to criticize. My brother had a popular radio station in the U.S. Virgin Islands, a U.S. Territory, of which that the U.S. Department Of Justice classified as the most corrupt government that prayed upon some of the poorest citizens of the U.S..
My brother out of great love for the People of USVI along with the support of the Island's new Governor who was elected on an Anti-corruption platform. provided a public voice through a radio service called 'Free Speech' whereby The People of the islands were finally had a voice to speak out and expose all sorts of incompetent, corruption, crime and abuse on the islands, that put so much Eyre and exposed so much injustice that several of the Island's most corrupt Senators resigned, others had psycho-emotional breakdowns, some were investigated for and as I recall possibly charged with crimes.
Most of the people of the islands rejoiced and expressed much gratitude to the Governor and my brother for empowering them with a voice. And a grass-roots group of Native residents and immigrants form Mainland U.S. and Europe joined forces to end profiteering from power generation, and implement cost effective power generation on the island. I worked on proposals for cost effective solutions that for reasonable federally backed programs could use augment existing power generation with waste to energy, Wind and solar to reduce the Island's power costs by 2/3, while making power grid more resilient.
However, some of the Senators who were seen as most corrupt out of fear lodged a complaint with the U.S. Department Of Justice and Federal Communications Commission (FCC), claiming my brother, the new Governor of Afro-Caribbean decent, and other residents were conducting a racist overthrow of the government of USVI. and using my brother's radio station to implement it. As a matter of legal protocol, the DOJ and FCC investigated and placed the government and my brother's radio station under something like a consent decree, and after 9 months and reviewing all the radio broadcasts and political efforts on the part of My Brother, locals and the Governor found no evidence of collusion or conspiracy but that the Governor, politically active locals, my brother his radio broadcasts had provided a much needed public service to deal with the most corrupt government in America and that if local officials made similar baseless complaints they could be risking criminal prosecution.
My Brother who took great honor and pride in opposing corruption and racism and as did his wife was Asian, and his closest friends and allies who were African, African American, Asian, Indian, native American and etc. Were all deeply shocked and hurt by being gaslight as racists, but it motivated them to dedicate their all to braving those assaults and more, for the benefit of their neighbors.
No doubt the good people of Siargao and the Philippines deserve more of voice in the matters of their lives and government, which might benefit from the voice of those who consider themselves as guests who love the people, the communities and nation.
BTW, I would be up for sharing what I gleaned from working with power proposals for USVI as Siargao seems to be similar to USVI, Perhaps there's some options in terms of power that would be a Win-Win for all on the Island.

Seems that everybody is blaming the Chinese ships, but why would they want to cut a cable to a small Philippine island? Has anybody considered the fact that sharks may have been biting at the cables, and damaged the insulation, allowing seawater into the cables and causing shorts inside the cable...sharks have been known to attack undersea cables because they can detect the electric fields from the cables and think it it food, as sharks use electric fields from fish to detect food .

I don't think they have sharks in the Philippines, except the whale shark in Oslob which is a tourist attraction there, they are harmless, people swim with them.
