    The ability of British, French, Dutch, Italian, Belgian, Australian, German, Japanese, American, and other Western nations to operate together is priceless. Like the rest of France's military, the Marine Nationale is a top notch organization. La Royale can learn from the US Navy and vice versa. It is a win-win situation for all Western navies to focus on interoperability.

      Indeed, I was doing an internship at French naval air station Lann Bihoue in Britanny. Rafales came to do simulated carrier approaches on the runway for a few weeks. Everyday, they would come over from their homebases, Landivisiau, do an hour of training and return to their homebases. Altough one day, I was in a building on the base working when I heard that very familiar whistling and thought to myself "They've landed?!". I walked outside and saw like a whole bunch of them passing by one by one on the taxiway and all parked nearby. Got to see them uplclose, was one hell of a surprise.

    it's especially the technology that we don't see that is impressive, and especially the records that it still holds since its release!! it is still the only aircraft in the world to reach 11G positive in combat! the Rafale C, for an aircraft weighing less than 10 tonnes (9850 kg) it carries almost 100% of its empty weight in armament (9500 kg), it carries almost 150% of its empty weight in armament and fuel (14650 kg), it makes slow passages at 80 knots or 152 km/h, it can land in a smooth configuration at 100 knots (180 km/h) and it lands on an aircraft carrier at 120 knots! its SPECTRA computer system behaves like a sponge, it receives all the information, makes a summary which it transmits to the pilot, this allows the pilot not to receive too much information and he can concentrate only on piloting and control. success of the mission, and it has two types of stealth, a passive one, certainly much lower than that of an F22 or F35 but it exists, SER of 0.06 m2, and an active stealth, it receives the enemy radar wave on antennas in its wings, SPECTRA analyzes it and sends back the phase-shifted radar wave, this allows the Rafale to erase its radar signature! so far, he has used it very little! for the moment in 2023, it remains undefeated in confrontations with other planes, it is especially the Eurofighter which took dearly, in 2009, 18 fights, 16 to 2 for the Rafale!! the very great qualities of the Rafale are: the solidity of these wings, the reliability of the M88, its SPECTRA system and its incredible maneuverability!! when France and the USA work together, we do wonders, example: the creation of CFM international, between SAFRAN (France) and General Electric (USA) we built the most incredible engine of all time, the CFM 56, the the best-selling airliner engine in the world and the one with the reputation of being the most reliable!! and now we are doing LEAP, another success!!

      Few people know that USN trains French Navy pilots for carrier ops, CDG sails with US sailors to maintain the steam catapults, and that Rafale had to visit Patuxtent River for ground based catapult during its development and then subsequent weapons integration testing.

    • @balkar1681

      It's not so hard for the French pilots, the US and French procedures are identical, the French naval pilots are all trained in the USA and the French aircraft carrier is much smaller. In fact for French pilots it's very easy, on the other hand, to land on the Charles de Gaulle for a Navy pilot with an F/A18 there it's a feat the bridge is much shorter and there are only 2 strand.

      Not only the interoperability of NATO members. A lot of ordnance is comparable. Every NATO member Infantry rifle is chambered in 5.56-NATO. All the magazines are the same. Most of the artillery shells can be shared. All aircraft in NATO uses the same air-to-air refueling couplers. That means an American KC-135 refueling plane can gas up every NATO aircraft that needs a drink.
      There are 2-axle cargo trucks used in NATO. No matter who made the truck, no matter which country, the engines have the exact same measurements. So if I was driving an American cargo truck with a Caterpillar engine. And the piston and valve covers blew up. A German Buffalo recovery vehicle can tow me to a German repair station. Remove the Caterpillar engine and directly replace the broken engine with a German MAN diesel engine. Even the electrical harness wiring is the same. Bad engine out, new engine in PDQ. Same with tires. Got a flat tire? Every NATO member repair facility can swap out tires. Not everything is compatible. But, a lot of things are.

    A fact many people won’t know is that French naval aviators destined for the Rafale, all undergo basic flight training in France, but report to the US Navy for advanced (carrier) training.
    France has no advanced trainer aircraft and only one aircraft carrier, which can’t always be operational. The French aviators train in US trainer jets to operate on carriers, and then transition to the Rafale jet.
    The US and France are the only two countries that use catapults on carriers. Because of this, the catapult designs are the same, the launch and recovery procedures are the same, and the aircraft use the same landing and take-off hardware.
    US Navy jets also train landing and taking off with the French Charles de Gaulle carrier.

    Do the US and French Navy’s use the same deck hand signals?

    • @UNMENDered
      @UNMENDered Год назад +15

      Years ago, there's slightly differences, like the "Go" signal was different.
      On US Aircraft carrier, the Yellow guys (alco called "shooter") are crouching while doing the Go Signal.
      On Charles-de-Gaulle french aircraft carrier, the Yellow guys are standing up while doing the Go Signal. You should check some Charles-de-Gaulle french aircraft carrier videos.
      Nowadays, I read that the French Navy personnels are starting/using the same signals as US Navy because of interoperability between both Navys. Also, I read too that British Navy personnels are using US signals because they are using US and UK F-35B on their own aircrafts carriers.
