Glad to see Console wars still going strong.
The Sega CD version should have been a special edition of the Genesis version of the game. Use those driving levels as special stages, so they don't get so repetitive. That could have done really well.
Just like the Batman Returns CD edition.
The problem is that despite the driving stages technical prowess, they are borderline impossible to play through, I say this as someone who likes the driving stages in Batman Returns... That being said, as much as I appreciate the bells and whistles of the Genesis games, I never played much of it, it's just so repetitive :-/
They missed a trick not making the driving sections the in-between levels of the console game when making the CD version. Best of both worlds.

Jesper Kyd is a much loved composer/artist and you can hear his brilliance even in his 'early' video game music career here. I especially love his Assassin's Creed work.
I always loved the Sega Genesis Batman & Robin soundtrack. It's very 90's industrial sounding. Makes me think of something like Front Line Assembly or KMFDM.

Sega CD is a really underrated add-on to the Genesis.
Yep, Genesis alone couldn't have accomplished those scaling effects. Really gave the impression of 3D

I'm glad to see you touched on the Sega CD version! :) I loved the FMVs and music. It's hard but it's not impossible.
The Sega CD version was so damn difficult. I had fun playing it, but I don't think I ever got passed the gameboard level. If I did, it wasn't very many times. Those awesome cut scenes definitely made beating every level worth it though. Batman TAS was one of my favorite cartoons back then. Still is today.

I agree with this review but that being said, I am a bit partial to the Sega CD version only because it's the one I grew up with and as a kid, it felt like having my own personal Batman episode I can watch whenever I wanted with the level skip code to watch the cutscenes like a TV show.

One of the few Sega CD games that have Sprite Scaling. If NBA JAM on Sega CD had used sprite scaling it would have been just like the Arcade and a reason to get it. Sometimes I forget what the Sega CD was capable of with all the lazy ports. But this game shows it's true power. Genesis could never handle that alone.
Glad to see the channel is still alive. But I imagine Nintendo vs SEGA won't be back till Greg feels better? I hope he gets better soon. Both for his own sake of course and for the channel.

The music at 2:54 from the Sega CD version is also used on a Sega Saturn sampler disc.
Music at 2:53 reminds me of the fight between Liu Kang and Reptile in the 1st Mortal Kombat film.

I remember having this game for my Genesis/MD as a kid and I loved it. Since you love Jesper Kyd, I’d recommend checking out Red Zone if you haven’t already. The game’s not bad, but the music really showcases his talent.
Good video Dan. I'm more of a Nintendo guy but I have to admit Batman and Robin on the Genesis is pretty impressive.

There's actually another game based on The Animated Series with this premise, the often-forgotten Batman: Gotham City Racer for PS1.

Counting the SNES version the same named game had 3 versions. Incredible. I miss the days when games were unique to each system.
I have an idea: Mix it up do a couple sports games. Maybe nhl94 on genesis and Sega cd? Or "is the sequel better?" And compare a game and it's sequel . Great video man. That Batman and robin game on genesis is so damn hard, but still I can see why people like it

I always wished they made a version that combined the sega genesis and cd versions into one game, with the driving portions added into every other stage of the genesis platform levels (of course with improvements to the controls and design if the driving).

It's a fun game but so damn hard. An emulator with save states is your best bet. Screw that roller coaster level... really all the boss battles are rough
I didnt know about the cut scenes in the sega CD version. May have to watch them online at least since it doesn't look like much fun to emulate and actually play thru to watch them

The faux-Bat music at 3:20 sounds a lot more like David Lynch's Dune than TAS, see here ruclips.net/video/zm4E4umP9Qc/видео.html. Like they can pay to put freaking cartoon cut scenes in their game but not get the proper music! It's the bane of so many almost-great licensed games. (Not that the racing game seemed that great.)

Hi Console wars. Can you guys do Raiden Trad, Thunder force 3 vs. Thunder Spirits, Thunder force 2 vs. Axelay, Thunder force 4 vs. Phalanx, Strike Gunner vs. Grind Stormer, Brutal Paws of Fury, Mega Turrican vs. Super Turrican, Phantom 2040, and more.
I wasn't wild about the driving stages in Batman Returns so I'm not thrilled about the idea of building a whole game around that.

Doesn't matter I love both of them but Sega Genesis always bring fun for entertainment to the level cause your actually playing the game story and adventure which is great
Looking at this Batman game makes me wonder why Sega didn’t port their Arcade super scaler games. Out runners would have looked awesome on this, but Power drift, Space Harrier and all those other games. These batman racing games seem to be the only ones puching the Mega CD ok that front
Love these Difference episodes. I agree that the Sega CD version doesn't worth. Just mentioning one impressive quality of the Sega CD version: the colors of the animated scenes. Most of the Sega CD videos are really bad in this aspect. Appears they colored the animation focused on Sega CD limited palette.

I love the ''Mode 7 style'' on the SegaCD, it's impressive for the hardware and even have some ''pseudo-3D'' elements, but the frame-rate look's sooooooo bad.

Technically they are both Genesis games. The Sega CD is not its one console but a CD drive for the Genesis. The Sega CD does upgrade the hardware though.
