This super light 'Natural' "Hardtail" Stratocaster weighs just 7.20 lbs. and has a nut width of just under 1 5/8 inches and a scale length of 25 1/2 inches. Two-piece solid ash body, contoured on back and lower bass bout, one-piece maple fretted neck with 21 original medium frets and black dot position markers. Two "butterfly" string trees, one with nylon spacer. Large headstock with "Fender" in black with gold trim, "STRATOCASTER" in black beside it, and one patent number "3,143,028" beneath "Fender." Individual Fender "F" closed-back tuners with octagonal metal buttons. Three-bolt neck plate with large Fender "F" logo and with serial number "524290" between the top two screws. Three single-coil black bottom pickups with staggered polepieces and balanced outputs of 5.42k, 5.68k and 5.41k. Three-layer (white/black/white) plastic pickguard with eleven screws. Three controls (one volume, two tone) plus three-way selector switch, all on pickguard. White plastic Stratocaster knobs with greenish gold lettering. Fender combined six-saddle 'hardtail' bridge/tailpiece. The three potentiometers are stamped "137 7337" (Stackpole September 1973). The end of the neck is stamped in black "0903 5213" (December 1973), the underside of the neck is stamped in black "J. Torres" and the neck cavity is stamped in black "S. Aguya". This guitar is in near mint (9.25) condition. There is some very light lacquer checking and just one little 'ding' on the top between the bridge and the jack input. Housed in its original 'Export' Fender three-latch rectangular black hardshell case with purple, green, orange and cream plush lining (8.75).
"Nothing" by Phil X is a fuckin' sweet jam! @4:36 Make it a thing!
2:56 was that EN VOGUE - Don't Let Go
9:44 sounds like age of rage by corroded
as always awesome guitar playing by PhilX
Stink, by Phil X and The Drills
9:46 I gotta get a little gain PPPPPSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Why did Fender stop making Strats with the jumbo headstocks they are sexy as fuck !
It appears to be a one piece body, not two as stated in the description.
I think it is a two-piece, but with the cut above the middle... about an inch above the pickguard... You could see it at 03:34 min aprx.
I know Blackmore never played with a hardtail but I mean cmon! No Blackmore?? It's a natural finished 70s Strat
I liked the old room better. Not because I liked to look at all the cool guitars, because for me it's always been about phil playing music and me enjoying that, but because of the "vibe," as an earlier user posted.
There's just something about playing in a tiny room with the amps dimed that you'll never achieve in a studio with perfect recording equipment at perfect levels. I think that's something that really made those videos special, the crazy energy of phil playing in that tiny room
Hey, FretAm. I've seen some complaints on the new studio, but I must say that the Atrium has mellower lighting that makes the guitars look more yummy than they did in the vivid guitar room. As long as you keep Phil X at your front, I'll be a subscriber forever. ;)
Ninette, the singer, and i were married when POWDER was happening but when the marriage dissolved, so did the band.
I'm a 1973 I've been told my headstock is huge too
thanks but these amps don't have effects loops. in fact, i don't personally own an amp that does.
haha. you can't please everyone. you know how many people asked me to stop singing my head off?
oh phil. youre such an inspiration. keep up the great work!
a guitar plugged into an amp with a mic on it. how exactly is this overproduced?
thanks, man. one day i'm bringing in a whole band and jamming some shit.
yeah I had to leave that one in!! it had flavor! :)
I love this melodic looper jam with AC30! rly love when Phil plays such mellow things
A lot of 70s Strats are garbage, but not all of them! Especially the early ones. I have a '73 and it's AMAZING. (other than the pickups, which I replaced with Kinmans) I can't tell you how many times I get offers for that guitar when I let people play it.
ummmmm. to me EVERY amp sounds best dimed.
Close this guy in a room full of guitars and he will give you an new album in an hour!
"Dude"? who are you talking to?
I love these little guitar selling demoes that FrettedAmericana post; Phil X is a special talent. How can it be an issue about whether he's standing in a shop or a studio- it's all in the content, not the location.
OK - I have my '73 Hardtail from new - same as but Rosewood neck. The Rosewood is less 'bright' and mine sounds more organic that that. It looks from wood tone and white guard that this has been in case for much of its like. I recently swapped my guard for Tortoiseshell and it looks divine - pics here: cut n paste and adjust the uRl-- tinyurl DOT com/a5suhve
It's called compensation • something that counterbalances or makes up for an undesirable or unwelcome state of affairs. Leo in an effort to get the same tone made pickup with more High Freq. output. Thus sounding the same to him. But back to the original post the High Frequency part of human hearing is the first to go.
I miss the guitar room :(
Still love FA and Phil, but do you think you could go back to playing more actual songs and less shredding randomly? Not complaining, I've just noticed the more recent videos have had less songs. The shredding is cool, but just a bit less would be nice,
There was something about the vibe of Phil being in the showroom - I liked the sound better too.
Still, I always enjoy his playing and spontaneity. Never know what's he's gonna play or say.
WOW... Hardtail, maple fretboard, that's without a doubt my favourite kind of strat! if i had the 3.500 bucks plus shipping to Denmark and tax that guitar would be sold right away.
Phil is on fire in this one. I do agree that the store was a better setting for the videos sound quality notwithstanding but hell, I'm happy to have F A filming Phil anywhere. Go Canada!
if you want the boost pedal to boost an already dirty amp, you can run it through the effects loop. If you do though you might lose that bottom end end sort of fuzzy boost.
there are vintage enough ibanezes at this point, and maybe even some esps. but theyre japanese and not usa made, theyre not usa vintage rare. Fretted"americana".
Just understand a simple thing. "Vintage and Rare guitars" Phil will demo what they have. Thay won't buy a brand new guitar because you fucking want to see it.
I agree.... Leave the over produced studio, go back to the fretted Americana shop and do the raw classic rock again. It's what we all come here to see.....
what sort of times signatures do you use on the new album phil x?, It's hard for me to figure it out, I mean I can play up to 9 octaves but that's about it.
You're so right about the strat-Hendrix combination but come one dude it's a strat play some Clapton from time to time! Awesome as always rock on!
I actually like the new place more. The sound is better and the videos were always about Phil X playing crazy guitars, not about the room !
That's a nice pc of Ash, the body looks great. Did anyone ever play it? Hidden in the closet maybe. It sounds nice.
Pizzazz and girth: the two most important qualities of tone.
That's true, it lacks the craziness there used to be during the fretted americana shop days. but, as you said, keep on rockin...
The color appears to be more of a trans butterscotch (which I'd prefer), rather then 'natural'. Does the ash naturally yellow?!
Not true. High Frequency hearing is the first to go. Loud sound is one of the contributing factors in hearing loss. Also age.
7:20 hold on one secooyeeah
Why would you do something have higher frequencies if you already can't hear high frequencies? Makes no sense.
PhilX is awesome!
But i wish you would also play brands like Ibanez and Yamaha (The old good once, not the new stuff).
The evil robot made a huge positive difference for my tastes .... that drills song in the video intro kicks azzzzz.
I don't know if it was just my impression, but Phil seemed kinda sad.
Don't know if that's the case but cheer up bro!
hey phil this is they same guy you agreed to do an interview do you think we could do it as soon as possible?
these videos are to showcase the guitars so people can buy them. They have to have a good sound.
So if order this guitar does it come in pieces, because I'm pretty sure I just witnessed Phil X destroy it.
Try Cleartone strings - They almost do not corrode!! and sound better than ernie ball for example :)
I fucking hate how everyone is more concerned about looking at the god damn guitars than the sound.
the loop jam sounds like some old school frusciante.
Perhaps one day PhilX will give lesson or make a series of lesson DvD's...unless he already has?
i got a tele blacktop hh and its hard tail, check it out they run around 500 and they are tough
it not as bad as it used to be at first. but there is definitely no vibe of old vids..
Not big on the new location either...lost a bit of its charm IMHO...Phil X is great as ever.
This isn't FrettedAmericana this is FrettedStudio.
You should cut your hair phil x. We all want to see what you look like with short hair.
Greg wear nail varnish too - they'd both then just get caught up in talking cosmetics...
Pffftttt. Looking and sounding like Frusciante for the first 3 mins there Phil. Love it.
I`ve never heard of Phil X before stumble across Fretted videos... Now I`m a huge fan!!
Hey frettedamericana guys! What about a fender bassman or an tweed twin amp cranked?
you should seriously try getting stoned and then watching him!
hes soooo alienatic!
I bet its awkward as shit for the guy sitting behind him. I'm kinda feeling sorry him
The amps are in another room I think, but Phil X would be a massive distraction..
Fretted"americana" They only do american guitars. esp and ibanez are japanese...
Just screw down the pivot screws and crank the claw and they are all hardtails.
neck pickup solo on that first loop reminded me of some john frusciante tones
Niiiiiice guitar!!!
If I buy a strat it should be hard tail like this one.
We'd like the Fretted Americana guitar room back on to our screens, please!
I own almost the same guitar, but with a tremolo and noiseless pickups...
phil should play an very unpopular hendrix song. Like cherokee mist.
That's a lot of tape for the microphone :p
True.
But it doesn't feel the same..
..and the internet hates change.
That amp sounds like a bumblebee farting in a pop can ... wth
@7:30 it sounds a lot like Highway Tune by Greta Van Fleet...
I don't always like stratocasters, but when i do they look like this!
Now I think Greg from Greg's Guitar should make a video with Phil X
it just looks like its missing a finish to me but to each his own.
rare occasion of phil playing with a large amount of gain :)
Hi Phil! Can you please play Bad Penny? :D
that neck pickup is where its at. that thing sounded sweet.
I think you just sold me on my next amp. Nice Strat too.
Whats the song at 1:55? Or key? Cause that's awesome
I could be wrong but it sounds like the key of D.
Darude - Sandstorm
would love to know that progression in the beginning...
The worlds most beautiful guitar, according to me;D
THIS is a beautiful piece of wood (i mean the guitar)
Mr X ain't 'Beatin' Round the Bush' today. :-)
It'd be impossible to do hendrix without a tremolo.
The jamming at the beginning sounds like a U2 song
majority of the 70s strats I've seen are hard tail
That neck looks tiny and poorly fitted to the heel
Phil will they ever make an evil root bass amp?
Th didn't, go look a the Ameican Special series
I saw one of these when I was 12 and lost a lot of interest in the girls at school, and nearly 50 years later, my original hottie is only getting hotter.
No wait worlds most beautiful strat, i mean;D
pause video. push 3 repeatedly for guitargasm.
7:29 I've heard it before - but what's that?
Nice to hear Phil playing clean and melodic.
