  • Firstly a massive thanks to the 200 of you that have subscribed to the channel! I can't quite believe that there's that many people who want to watch my attempts at fishing 🤣
    Secondly, the Wales roadtrip videos will continue over the coming weeks, I'm going to aim to release a new video every sunday morning, but hit the notification bell to get an alert when they go live!
    I'm off to Mexico in a couple of weeks, chasing some big fish, so head on over to Instagram for the latest on that trip.
    invitescon...
    Also, let me know your thoughts on fresh water fishing. Do you fish a mix or are you fixed on one type like me? I do like the thought of finding some local big pike, but the thought of fishing in puddles doesn't grab me in the slightest 😉
    Finally, hope you enjoy the footage from Greece. Some stunning scenery, unfortunately very light on fish, maybe a sign of how heavily fished the waters have been over the years?
    As always, until next time, take care and tight lines!
    Alex

    Been down that road also. Only luck I’ve had from Greece was fishing the witching hour into darkness for sea bass and if you keep fishing to just after dark you’ll sometimes snag a barracuda. Try to fish the slightly rougher areas of ocean from the rocks. Use advanced smoojing tactics on the missus to convince her to be done and dusted with dinner by 8pm.

    I’ve never had any luck spinning with lures on holiday wherever we’ve been. Best to use floats with a couple of foot dropper and vary depth to suit. Day old crusty bread which has turned rubbery stays on the hook longer after being attacked by mullet/bass etc.

    • @theawfulangler
      @theawfulangler  Год назад

      I've had some great fun with lures in many countries. But I've also bought a small float setup for when the lures aren't working.

      Yes same... Lure fishing has been tough for me in Greece. Best I done was mullet on bread... Caught a few but they quite quickly become very shy. For fun though, try fake maggots just off the beach lots of colourful little fish.

    Hi been catching up on your content and really have enjoyed what you have been producing keep up the great work. Has brought back some great memories of sea fishing with my Dad when I used to live in Bridlington and fishing Danes Dyke and when I was old enough fishing off Bempton and Flamborough cliffs. Now I coarse fish jack of all trades master of none which is how I found your channel looking up fishing on the river Hull. So I'm sure you've got it covered but need any advice, tips etc give me a shout.

      Glad you're enjoying the channel mate. I'm thinking of trying my hand at piking just so I don't have to travel quite as far every time I want to fish haha.
      I'll always take advice mate. I haven't fished much north of hornsea so any spots you'd recommend up that way would be great.

    • @WayneD1971
      @WayneD1971 Год назад +1

      @The Awful Angler piking advise wise tools for the job long nosed forceps pliers and long reach bolt cutters Dont leave a take to long better to hit the run early than risk deep hooking a pike. Location to fish brid pier can be good at times. Danes dyke for rough ground fishing as for Bempton and Flamborough cliff there a different beast strong gear and a some sort of pole to hold the line out away from the cliffs as you bring the fish up. I remember my dad had a 9lb cod off Flamborough cliffs but had to walk his rod back over the golf course couldn't wind the fish up. I'm sat on the end of the pole and another friend holding his line up over a fence.

    Hello m8. I'm off to Crete in May. Do you need a fishing permit for sea fishing and are there any tackle shops to buy some gear? Cheers

    • @theawfulangler
      @theawfulangler  4 месяца назад +1

      You didn't need a licence when I went, worth just doubling checking, but I don't think that's changed. There were no tackle shops where we stayed but Google will quickly tell you where your local store it

    After quite a few blanking sessions in the Med using lures... the penny finally dropped for me that the locals have fished out nearly everything that swims. Dexter wedges and other metals and lures don't catch you any fish.. because there is nothing left big enough to eat them. I've switched over to micro lures and drop shotting now and am doing much better on holidays. 4cm soft lures is max size... size 16 hooks and 2lb hook lengths plenty of small bream left, and small wrasse... keep you busy all session long

    • @theawfulangler
      @theawfulangler  Год назад +1

      Yeah it's really disappointing.
      Might be a bit sad but if possible I like to have a mooch about the local fish markets or see what the boats are bringing in, some of their catch I wouldn't even use as bait never mind feed the family!

    • @nikosmpigikakis6213
      @nikosmpigikakis6213 10 месяцев назад

      @@theawfulangler There are still a lot of big fish in the med....
      You are just using lures and techniques that dont work in our waters, georgioupoli has a lot of seabass and big ones but you will never catch one using a spoon.. try topwater lures at the first and last light of the day and big minnows 20cm+ to provoke them to strike, also looks like you are trolling very fast optimal trolling speed is at 2,5-3 knotts.
      Next time you find yourself in crete ask a local tackle shop to quide you on what lures to use or send a pm i would be happy to show you around !

    • @theawfulangler
      @theawfulangler  Год назад

      Hey!
      You can't catch fish without your gear, so I'd always say its worth taking it with you. Make sure you take a light float setup with you too, it may prove more successful than lures.
      When I went, they had removed the need for permits. But its always worth a quick check on Google to be sure that's still the case.

    i lived in greece for a year and its very simple why you didnt catch its because of of greece it totally over fished, the greeks have very loose morals when it comes to rules and regulations in general and the fishing really suffers, the whole coastline of create where i lived was just baron and devoid of any life/ecosystem.
