I can confirm that with the US version, the top piece turns into a day bag. Super handy for hiking into a base camp then taking smaller trips further up the mountain or something.
Hi Haze - with the ice axe, if you drop the handle through the bottom loop, until the head is resting in it and stopping it from falling through, then flip it up 180 degrees before attaching the handle to the bag , it will support the axe head better at the bottom.
I bought the original version of this about 10 years ago. They moulded the waist band to my body in an oven in the shop. It then comes off the main bag and once the top bag is removed, you feed the waist band into it and it converts it to a massive bum bag (fanny pack for people who don’t speak the queens English). Genius!

Love this bag. Have it already for many bushcraft and hiking trips tru out Netherland, Belgium, France, Germany and Sweden.

Hazey you have handled my sack....its awesome ....i have used Osprey.for years and i can confirm that Osprey honour the lifetime gaurentee....one of my mates had one since girl guides and at 21 years of age while on a trip in France with a sack bought in the US she tried the system of lifetime G and in less than 3 weeks she recieved the brand new nearest equivalent model to hers which was obsolete....that is 110% amazi ngly good customer post sales service. I purchased from abroad (The Brain on my back, turns into a daypack) the Osprey Aether 85 plus and absolutely love it. You can pack it small or you can pack it big, depending on a one, two or a month out in the wild. I have back issues and now am assured that issue is in the past when using this backpack. Great video
I got the kestrel 48lt,and love it not too big to nip into town etc but ample if packed right for over nighters or even couple nights comfort from osprey u no if you've used one if not get one you will be happy
It's not a pack for everyone. There's nothing *wrong* with it, but it weighs 2.3kg and I don't need *any* of the extra features. Now I've gone UL, my entire tent + sleep system doesn't weight that much. It's still a fantastic bag and if I didn't already have a Marmot for heavy carries I'd be all over it!

Just got back from a 3 day hike in the Dark Peak with quite a heavy load and this sack performed like an absolute dream. The hip belt made everything soo, so comfy. Worth every penny. Cheers mate! 😀
Do you reckon this bag would be overkill for someone who goes for a wildcamp every other weekend or so? I just about get the essentials in a 40l bag at the minute, just wondering if you think 70l would be too big, given the bag itself is 2.3kg on its own. Found a decent deal for one but wondering whether to get it still. Hoping I I pick your brain for what you think seeing as you've got one. Cheers :)

Nice review. I have this pack and I love it. Like you said it was very uncomfortable to start with but once it moulded to me hips it is very comfortable. It is worth getting it heat moulded in the shop when you buy it, saves the pain while you break it in. I pack the gear that I am going to need in the tent overnight in the lid then clip it off at night and take it into the tent, keeps every thing together in the tent that way. I also use it as a day bag with the lid off and compressed down. I find it now very comfortable and love the features. cheers Hazy..
I have been a big fan of Osprey bags for years now. Although the Aether AG 70 would be too big for my needs, it`s huge. Osprey has a very good aftersales policy with a no-quibble repair and replacement service which is good.

Both have thier good, and bad points.ive owned loss of osprey products over the years One thing I've always been keen on is the daylite attachment on the front. And the detachable top lid as a day pack..

Absolutely excellent bag, served me well over the last 12 months. I just wanted to add that in the side pockets they have another small hole to retrieve your canteen/bottle so you haven't got to struggle by pulling it through the top 👍🏻 Too review mate!

Have a AG65, took it around the #Rockies in #Canada. Great bag, takes a huge load really well (sounds like an ex...), I used it as I had a luxury hammock setup with some added bonus items like espresso machine. It's not been used in a while thanks to COVID. Can't go wrong with buying @Osprey due to the no quibble guarantee, any breakages or faults they fix anywhere in the world. I have three overnight/multi day packs two are Osprey.
Just bought this backpack from Amazon uk. I was looking for a very high quality backpack and glad watched your review on this! I'll be doing alot of wild camping in the highlands of Scotland so I needed something like this to go with my snugpack lonosphere bivi. Here in scotland is under lockdown due to covid-19. Great review bud. I love Osprey packs. I got a Kestrel 48 in the NY sales and am really happy with it. I used it on an overnighter on Kinder Scout in March and hope to use it next on the Yorkshire Wolds Way as soon as we’re allowed out again!

Just got this bag. Have gone back up in size from 45:55ltr to a 70ltr. Was all about reducing gear but, the torture of sacrificing one or two items was killing my buzz. Going back up in size (if I don't fill it like a newb) means I can throw my stuff in, especially when clearing up camp in the rain. That's mytheory anyway. Knowing me, I'll fill it and curse the weight of my foot spa, fleshlight and fancy piece!
They have been making that model for years so I am sure Osprey knows what they are doing :) I would sell a shit ton at the outdoor store I used to work at

I’ve got the large size 65 litre. Big enough for me and my friends (beer) as I dont have loads of camera gear. So I’ll highly recommend this. One thing. Mine creaks when I walk. (Could be me old knees) it’s over 2 years old now and still creaking. Do you have creaking issues?? Also I read a book about anti gravity one time. It was so good. I couldn’t put it down. 😬😬😬😬. No creaking with the Aether but my exos 48 creaked for a while at first. I just kept adjusting the straps until I hit a sweet spot where it didn't make a noice. Sounds like you need some WD40 on your hips mate 😉.

Love the Osprey Packs,. I sold a kidney and got the 60 litre Levity for the Coast to Coast. I have a big Marmot for heavy carries but the Levity is the one I hike with now I've gone UL :)
So , my first backpacks were berghaus / karrimor sabres and jaguars in the 80s and 90s and then I switched to snugpak rocket paks , which are bomb proof but hardly ultralight . Since then I have had Patagonia black holes and montbell zero point packs and I really want an atom packs or those granite gear crowns to try them out . Despite that there’s days I go back to a battered and bruised osprey ag as it’s just right for some hikes / camps . This video explains why so much better than I can .

Got a bit of an Osprey fetish meself, 5 at the last count. Top sacks, I've tried others but nothing compares, can't see me ever using owt else! I went for the Atmos over the Aether for my big boy, not much between them other than what your personal preferences are. Mrs goes nuts when I come in with another bag, she's still got more handbags though so we're all good for now!

Great stuff mate. There well constructed. I have the Atmos 65l, they are similar bags. Suffering from Achilles tendonitis so have to lighten my load. I think the atmos about 2.4kg. Waited 11wks for an atompacks weighing 900g. Still to try it out. Magic vid pal. Cheers

Got same pack a month ago based on seeing you use it. They heated up the hip belt in the store for perfect fit. Was on sale normally $433 AUD got for $270AUD bargain!

Osprey Rook 65, entry level model they brought out sometime last year I think, got it for half the price of the Atmos AG 65! Atmos AG will be my next upgrade though, the anti gravity system on the mid to high range priced packs looks delicious🙃

Here in the States, the 65 liter does not come with a rain fly, but one can get in on eBay and/or Amazon. It’s the best pack I’ve owned.🤙😎

I’ve got the large size 65 litre. Big enough for me and my friends (beer) as I dont have loads of camera gear. So I’ll highly recommend this. One thing. Mine creaks when I walk. (Could be me old knees) it’s over 2 years old now and still creaking. Do you have creaking issues?? Also I read a book about anti gravity one time. It was so good. I couldn’t put it down. 😬😬😬😬. No creaking with the Aether but my exos 48 creaked for a while at first. I just kept adjusting the straps until I hit a sweet spot where it didn't make a noice. Sounds like you need some WD40 on your hips mate 😉.
Haze Outdoors it’s an age thing. 👴 I’d buy another one no problem so creaking not an issue I’d be concerned with.
10:24. The brain in my Canadian version turns into a really solid daypack. No rain cover.

I've got the women's version (Ariel AG 65). On US versions, the larger pouch of the lid contains fold-out straps that turn it into a small day pack.
Thats a cool feature. Us europeans get the rain cover instead.
@@HazeOutdoors BTW, if you're looking for some external carry ability without adding that 2nd pack, have a look at TribeOne Outdoors. They make a cargo net for backpacks.
Love the Osprey Packs,. I sold a kidney and got the 60 litre Levity for the Coast to Coast. I have a big Marmot for heavy carries but the Levity is the one I hike with now I've gone UL :)
So , my first backpacks were berghaus / karrimor sabres and jaguars in the 80s and 90s and then I switched to snugpak rocket paks , which are bomb proof but hardly ultralight . Since then I have had Patagonia black holes and montbell zero point packs and I really want an atom packs or those granite gear crowns to try them out . Despite that there’s days I go back to a battered and bruised osprey ag as it’s just right for some hikes / camps . This video explains why so much better than I can .
Got the Atmos 50 AG, never had a pack feel soo comfortable as this

Got a bit of an Osprey fetish meself, 5 at the last count. Top sacks, I've tried others but nothing compares, can't see me ever using owt else! I went for the Atmos over the Aether for my big boy, not much between them other than what your personal preferences are. Mrs goes nuts when I come in with another bag, she's still got more handbags though so we're all good for now!
Yep, had the bag for 2 years and had no idea about some of the features you mention. Thanks! I had a comment to one of my videos about the chest strap being so high that it could throttle me with a fall. What adjustment do you make to keep this at a lower (chest) level? Cheers.

Great stuff mate. There well constructed. I have the Atmos 65l, they are similar bags. Suffering from Achilles tendonitis so have to lighten my load. I think the atmos about 2.4kg. Waited 11wks for an atompacks weighing 900g. Still to try it out. Magic vid pal. Cheers
I'm literally about to press, buy now, but i'm also looking at the Aether AG 85. I imagine they are identical apart from the volume? Great review and has finally made my mind up to pay the extra dollar for what seems a bag for life. The bag for life i got at Lidl is already broked :-( Thanks Hazey!

Got same pack a month ago based on seeing you use it. They heated up the hip belt in the store for perfect fit. Was on sale normally $433 AUD got for $270AUD bargain!

Great stuff mate! I’m the same, love getting nerdy with bags! I just upgraded to an osprey myself a few days ago! Osprey Rook 65, entry level model they brought out sometime last year I think, got it for half the price of the Atmos AG 65! Atmos AG will be my next upgrade though, the anti gravity system on the mid to high range priced packs looks delicious🙃
