Excellent footage. Well done. Lucky enough to live only half an hour's drive from Kidderminster Station, I've visited the SVR a number of times since the late 70s. The time, effort, expertise, millions of pounds, and, of course, love, that's gone into it's development over the decades can't help but impress. I've not visited many other preserved railways, but the SVR must be hard to beat; it has so much going for it. A generous 16-mile route with plenty of interesting twists and turns, embankments, cuttings, stonebuilt bridges and viaducts, a long tunnel and the elegant Victoria iron bridge over the river. Then there's the marvellous scenery and sights along the banks of the Severn - including camels and rhinoceroses in the safari park! Picture-postcard country stations: prize-winning Arley is just gorgeous; Kiddderminster, they even built from scratch to a traditional design. And at each station there's something to explore - the river side at Arley, the old town at Bewdley, for instance. Then there's a wide range of steam and diesel locos, coaches and wagons in the home fleet, all overhauled and maintained in heavily invested depots and workshops. Two museums choc full of static locos and railway paraphernalia. And even two pubs. What's not to love about the SVR? I know I do. Even if you're not a railway enthusiast, it offers a superb family day out, with more than enough to see and do. It's a must-visit, especially during a 4-day gala event.
The Severn Valley Railway is definitely one of the best railways in the country alongside places like The Great Central Railway (which featured in my latest video!) and the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway. All three of those just show what can be achieved when there is huge amount of enthusiasm and effort from the volunteers involved with it and crucially, a decent amount of funding to support that enthusiasm. Thanks for watching 😃
That's only 1 of their GWR carriage rakes. they've got a larger rake they use on other days. the class 52 "western champion" is hauling a rake of LMS 1940's coaches. the SVR is one of the few places you can see a LNER, LMS, and GWR rakes all together. I've been going there since I was 1, definitely somewhere close to my heart. shame you went there on a day with only 1 steamer running, the steam galas are awesome so I recommend them. Great video 👍🏻... now a subscriber.
Yes I had a feeling they had more. In some ways I’m surprised they don’t have a Southern set stashed somewhere to get a full house! Thanks for watching 😃
Spectacular video, That Model Railway Guy, thoroughly enjoyable in every respect, right up there in the top tier with pennysteam, Marsh, and so on. Capturing on video all those fussy details that can make or break a model railway, traditional or virtual, is greatly appreciated. This will be my "default" Severn Valley reference video. Not to mention it's a superb heritage railway to begin with. Imagine, those teaks were in everyday use in their time! And with a heritage railway, model or otherwise, you can mix your stock and locos any which way. Many thanks, indeed, can't wait for your next.
Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah it's definitely been good going back over this footage to see all the little details and things I missed in the moment. There's definitely a lot of things I'm planning on recreating on my own layout... just need more space for an epic Diesel Depot now! 😅 Thanks for watching 👍
This video is well worth the wait, everything on the railway is beautifully decorated and well cared for, definitely a place I'd like to go to if I ever visit the UK. 😊
It's such a fantastic railway and I can see what people mean when they say it's one of the best in the country. It's a great example of what happens when a heritage railway is successful and really flourishes. Thanks for watching 😃
Wow, how I wish I was born in the UK or this video was a little longer.. Only a true train lover can understand.. Beautiful Locomotives, Queen Elizabeth II, Gordon, Valcun.. Nicely maintained.. Loved them.. Thanks for sharing this.. 🤗🤗
It's certainly a fantastic railway and one you definitely have to experience yourself I think. The volunteers have taken such pride in the railway and it's incredible to see how it's thrived! Thanks for watching 😃
Love the Severn valley, my family visit quite frequently, since we live about 15 minutes from Kidderminster, and my mom runs a holiday rental in bewdley. It's great to see others enjoy it too
I'm really glad you enjoyed it! I originally thought these might just be quick little bonus videos but yeah they've turned out really well on all fronts so I'm glad everyone else is enjoying them too. Thanks for watching 😃
Thanks! The best part is this wasn't really intended to be a "video" and I was just filming for fun. But the shots were so good I figured I might as well make a little series out of so I could share it with you guys. Thanks for watching 😃
Hello, I've been on the SVR a couple of times in the past few years. Mostly recently for a family day out and had a wonderful time. I am pleased you had a great time on the line. Keep up the great videos.
It's a great railway isn't it Tim! I'm so glad I finally got to visit the line after all these years and had such a good day there. It certainly won't be my last visit. Glad you're enjoying the videos and thanks for watching 😃
Lovely video of my favourite heritage line, thanks for sharing this and keep up the great work! I really enjoy all of your videos, extremely well presented, informative and interesting. Great job! Andy
Thanks Andy, glad you enjoy the videos! This was certainly a great day out. It was my first trip to the SVR but certainly won't be my last. Thanks for watching 😃
The SVR is probably my favourite preserved line and I visit it at least twice a year. I've always had a close bond with it ever since I used to watch God's Wonderful Railway on TV when I was little. I named my brother after the lead character, Andy and we named our house Highley.
As someone who lives in the States, and unfortunately not very close to any heritage railways, I envy you Brits for having so many of them across the country, and I've only ever heard good things about the SVR. Whenever I get a chance to cross the pond, visiting the Severn Valley will definitely be on my bucket list. I've heard so many people wibbling about the purple West Country, but I personally quite like it. I'd love to get a model of it if I could find one for a decent price :)
If you ever decide to come over to our side of the Atlantic, I would highly recommend the Tennessee Valley Railroad in Chattanooga. It's my home railway, I suppose, and I'm very proud of it :)
Ah that's a shame, but yes I'd definitely recommend a visit to the SVR if you ever do come over. I'll definitely have to look up the Tennessee Valley Railroad too. Thanks for watching 😃
Amazing! I'm very jealous you have such a fantastic railway so close to you. It's hard to be anything but positive about it when the volunteers have done such an amazing done with keeping the railway alive. Thanks for watching 😃
Fantastic, the severn valley railway is one of my favourite railways I've visited, good selection of locos and rolling stock and its a great run with great scenery, glad you had a good time there 😀
Absolutely! I think there will end up being elements of all the railways I visited on this trip appearing on the modular layout in some fashion. Thanks for watching 😃
its an exelleant raiwlay isnt it?! It looks like you enjoyed yourself. I used to live around there and my parents remember taking me on it when i was just 1! I now live at the other end of the country in Northumberland so getting to visit is a bit more of a treat.
You can just walk through the carriages to get off where the platform is. The staff are pretty good about letting you know which stations it'll be an issue at in each carriage. Thanks for watching 😃
I have visited the railway once in 1996 I was fishing the river at Arley and heard a steam locomotive arrive at the station so I quickly left the fishing and made my way to Arley I'm afraid I don't remember which locomotive it was
Nice one Dave! Yeah I live a bit further away than that which is why I've never got round to visiting before. Very glad I have now though and it certainly won't be my last trip to the line. Thanks for watching 😃
To be honest I find the teak coaches to be quite uncomfortable when compared to LMS, GWR and BR stock. Also they have a GNR teak as well which is quite cool
I didn't really notice a huge amount of difference, though to be honest I was probably just giddy about being in the teak coaches! 😅 Yes I managed to get a compartment in the GNR teak later on and that was a great ride. Thanks for watching 👍

@@ThatModelRailwayGuy They do have a southern set - sort of - its been converted for staff accommodation and storage.
Lady of Legend. My favorite GWR loco, ever!
It's definitely a nice looking loco for sure! Thanks for watching 😃

Amazing! It must be great to have such a fantastic railway practically on your doorstep. Thanks for watching 😃
Absolutely fantastic! The quality of the footage was spot on, and the colours were so vibrant! Not to mention those sounds! Thanks for sharing!
I'm really glad you enjoyed it! I originally thought these might just be quick little bonus videos but yeah they've turned out really well on all fronts so I'm glad everyone else is enjoying them too. Thanks for watching 😃
Some AMAZING camera shots of the locos keep up the good work!
Thanks! The best part is this wasn't really intended to be a "video" and I was just filming for fun. But the shots were so good I figured I might as well make a little series out of so I could share it with you guys. Thanks for watching 😃
That's my local railway!
Awesome! What a treat to have this as your local railway. Thanks for watching 😃
What a great video thank you! I hope one day I can visit the UK and this railway!
My pleasure Jade, glad you enjoyed it. I can definitely recommend a trip to the SVR if you do ever visit the UK sometime. Thanks for watching 😃

Thanks Andy, glad you enjoy the videos! This was certainly a great day out. It was my first trip to the SVR but certainly won't be my last. Thanks for watching 😃
Great video well done. My partner looked up at the tv at one point and said ‘ oh it’s the suitcase guy that we met at Tunbridge Wells’.
Be right back, just off to change my channel name to: That Suitcase Guy! 🤣 Thanks for watching 👍

It's a pretty spectacular railway and how great to have a personal connection to it! Thanks for watching 😃
That is awesome!
What a fun adventure so glad you toke us along for the ride. Can wait to see what ideas you got for finishing your layout.
GOD BLESS 🚂💖🚂💖🚂💖
Glad you enjoyed it Lois! I definitely got a lot of inspiration for the modular layout from the Severn Valley Railway. Thanks for watching 😃

A well filmed journey. With good commentary too. I enjoyed it as I am unlikely to experience it for myself. Thank you 👍👍
Great to hear you enjoyed it David and I'm glad I was able to take you along for the ride! Thanks for watching 😃
Severn Valley is local to me and I have family who volunteer on it so nice to see it get such a good appraisal!

Really enjoyed watching this 😀
Glad you enjoyed it Ian - I must get to work editing the next episode! Thanks for watching 😃
Hope you got loads of inspiration from this visit for some more modelling 👍 Great video.

Yeah it's really great to see what preservation can achieve given the resources! Thanks for watching 😃
how do the passangers get off the train if their coach is over shooting the platform. Great video, would love to go to the railway myself one day!
You can just walk through the carriages to get off where the platform is. The staff are pretty good about letting you know which stations it'll be an issue at in each carriage. Thanks for watching 😃
I was born in the city of bridgenorth nice to see some trians aswell
Awesome, what I saw of Bridgnorth from the station looked very nice! Thanks for watching 😃
I have visited the railway once in 1996 I was fishing the river at Arley and heard a steam locomotive arrive at the station so I quickly left the fishing and made my way to Arley I'm afraid I don't remember which locomotive it was
Nice, fishing and a steam railway - sounds like a pretty good day! Thanks for watching 😃

This is my local heritage railway as I only live 20 minutes away.
Amazing, what a railway to have as your local! Thanks for watching 😃

I love 2800 classes
I have to admit I don't know a huge amount about GWR locos but even I can appreciate the Heavy Goods locos! Thanks for watching 😃
