This not being another horrible Chinese cash-grab CG fest is already a huge step up. Fei Xiang and Narana Erdyneeva were phenomenal and completely stole the entire movie. All those up and coming young hunky actors didn’t stand a chance - I could hardly remember any one of them as they all looked interchangeable. Li Xuejian was great as the wise Duke of the West. I don’t think it was an absolute slam dunk as there were still some wonky CG effects and the “heaven” scenes reminded me too much of the terrible CG work in movies like League of Gods. I know it was inspired by the paintings, but it just looked too clinically clean. Overall, this is still very impressive and worth a watch.
