Her escapism, the age inappropriate action figures, the over compensation of gifts and toys, and her almost ambivalent reaction to their divorce proves it.

In the toy section, I kind of interpreted that when they are fighting Rose's toys, they are fighting her creativity, imagination and innocence. The toys are trying to protect Rose instead of her actual parents. Its really sad.
And the fact that the parents didnvt even try to understand that their actions were upsetting Rose and that the toys were actually for out for her instead of the parents... like... the parents are just selfish and self-obsessed assholes blaming everyone else and not taking responsibility for themselves/thier actions...

something I found Interesting: All of Cody's Weapons in the game seem to be about slowing or weighing people down (Ice magic, sap, Size changing sorta, nails, etc) While May's weapons revolve around general killing and violence (Matchgun, Hammer, Fire sword, fighting the squirrel on the plane, etc)
I think it’s a good way to show their personality differences, Cody is more creative and willing to go with the flow (also shown by the fact he is clay and has a plant incorporated) while May is more direct and logical (also shown by the fact she’s a wooden doll with joints that shows mechanical attributes)
Nothing says you're a good parent like brutally murdering your child's favourite stuffed toy and joyously bathing in their tears once they discover the stuffed homicide.

I’ve watched a couple other people play parts of this game, and I just have to say that these two making each other laugh and working together to fix things instead of constantly killing each other (not to mention actually letting us hear the story instead of talking over it) makes it the most enjoyable play through I’ve seen yet
Honestly, for listening to the story and having fun together, EvanandKatlyn play this game really well, and definitely better at not talking over the game
A real good playthrough is FWOB’s playthrough (friends without benefits) they work really well together and never talk over the cutscenes
I was also going to suggest E&K. They are really cute and always let cut scenes and dialogue be heard.
Still wondering why the main characters didn't think to make Rose cry tears of JOY to undo the spell... -_-

Kids as young as Rose rarely cry of joy. In their size, it is pretty impossible to do that, its infinitely easier to make kids cry of sadness instead of joy.

this game does a really good job of showing narcissistic parents, i think. as someone WITH narcissistic parents, this game really hits, especially when they literally murder the kid's favorite toy just for themselves. this game also shows that divorce is sometimes necessary, the whole premise kind of fucks me up and makes me angry. super interested in the way this end

The Cutie scene absolutely broke me. There's just something so cruel and needless about it. Even if they think it'll break their spell, it still shocks me to see Cody and May able to push past their objections to kill the embodiment of their child's innocence.
For anyone else trying to make peace with that scene, I feel ya. A thought that helps me process all of that goes something like this: Cutie the Elephant ultimately represents Rose's happiness and childhood innocence. By killing that toy, Cody and May are just doing what they've always been doing: putting their squables ahead of the needs of their child. If they can at least come to amicable terms for themselves and their daughter, then Cutie didn't fall for nothing. Above all, nothing can undo what they did, but they still have a chance in this story to mend (or more likely begin mending) what Cutie represents. Now if you'll excuse me I'll go back to sobbing in my pillow.

The Cutie scene brought me to tears. As a parent, I can't imagine doing that to my kid. Thats absolutely horrible.
My boyfriend and I ended the Cutie section sporting tears and deeply upset with the characters. It is honestly one of the most upsetting sections a game has asked me to complete in order to progress the story, despite the cutesy vibes of most of the game. Loved this game, but god was that part frickin rough. A surprising tone shift I was not prepared for.
The fact that the stuffing coming from Cutie's leg that got ripped off was gently flowing down, and how she comments on things getting fuzzy. Harrowing. It's like Happy Tree Friends, but worse.
So glad I'm not the only one who was crying terribly when that happened, at least :((
Dude I wept like a BABY when my boyfriend and I got to that part! I grabbed all the stuffed animals I could fit on my lap and held them for the rest of our gaming session cuz I was so upset. We haven't finished the game yet and are working on getting the last piece of the letter Rose wrote right now, but GOD I hope they fix Cutie at the end

I played this with a guy I’m dating. I gotta say was really turned off by his lack of remorse for killing her. Whilst I was whining I don’t want to hurt her every time we did an action that hurt her or when I was trying to look around the room for another possible option he kept saying “c’mon hurry up we have to kill her” “where are you going? We need to kill her!”and just kept rushing me with zero empathy was kinda weird. I get that’s it’s just a game and it’s not real but.., whoah, this dude didn’t even hesitate. Should I be worried? Lol. Am I dating a sociopath?

but think about it this way, they make their daughter cry once, and then they are able to return back to normal, so the 2 things are that you ruin a Childs happiness for like a few days, or stay stuck in a weird world forever, and then the child will this that her parents are dead and she'll stay sad forever. They, still, could have made her cry tears of joy somehow, don't know why they didnt do that

The more I watch this story the more unsettling it is, especially the parent's thinking. May and Cody never learn and aren't really compatible. Honestly it's probably best if they do divorce :/ Also are they not going to reflect on their actions? Or that in the letter it seems like their daughter is blaming herself for their separation? :(

Thé thing that really sucks about these characters are that they are so immature and self absorbed. They don’t respect or consider the other’s perspective, they are just focused on themselves. I honestly think they need the divorce. Also purposely messing with your kids emotions after you’ve just seen that she’s worrying so much because of their relationship is just so messed up.

The way the characters move in cut scenes reminds me a lot of Sid the Science Kid. That show really freaked me out.

Ahh~ yes. The Cutie scene. It's coming back to me now......... why did I watch this scene again, lol. This and the scene with Rose felt so wrong. Bad enough that she's crying over her parent's separating, she also had to grieve for her favorite toy..... all while the perpetrators were literally bathing in her tears, dancing in glee. I remembered being so angry, the first time I've watched this segment of the gameplay.
God, I was angry at them too. They seem so selfish here, only wishing to go back to normal, not caring about their daughter's feelings whatsoever.

Rewatching this and the part where they had to kill the elephant still upsets me 😢 what made them think that making their child cry tears of sadness will turn them back. If my parents torn my favourite toy into pieces, I would never look at them the same again

I really appreciate how little time they take to solve puzzles. Not trying to throw shade at people learning at their own pace, but this has been much less frustrating for me to watch than other streamers playing puzzle-based games. idk how anyone can come out of the Queen Cutie part without feeling something. i am feeling very pissed off at the parents right now. i understand that they have a lot of issues to work through right now but that whole scene just screamed SELFISH. No consideration for the other person or their child. i still love the game, just not that scene or the characters right now.

The Cutie scene has me in tears and absolutely pissed off. I'm really upset with the game right now and I know that that's irrational but I kind of can't help it lol. They can say sorry all they want but they still killed a person (yes I consider Cutie a person 😂) and hurt their daughter. It's like they're so focused on themselves that they either can't see or are ignoring the innocents they're hurting on their ways to get what they want. It's a good message but the elephant scene has me truly messed up. Hurting something/one that is truly 100% innocent in this situation (parallels to Rose perhaps?)
