  • The South Atlantic has the most exciting areas for oil & gas on the planet!
In this video, originally created for the BEOS 2024 conference, we take a look at Guyana & Suriname, Uruguay, Namibia & South Africa. We also take a look at what to look out for in 2024 in the region.
The Stabroek block has had over 30 discoveries in recent years, with production start-up at Liza in 2019. Neighbouring Suriname is set to join the ranks of oil producing countries with a Krabdagu & Sapakara joint development entering the concept selection phase.
We take a look at a regional depositional setting and have a look at some of the play types, including for the onshore fields Tambaredjo & Calcutta.
Also in the region (offshore Suriname) is the Walker-1 well-to-watch. Set to drill this year, it is a lookalike to the Ranger-1 (2019) discovery in Guyana.
Sticking with wells-to-watch, we show what to look out for in 2024 and take a closer look at one of those wells - Anhanga (Brazil). This video was recorded prior to Anhanga being announced as a discovery but still offers insight into what the well was targeting.
We also review prospectivity in Uruguay - a very exciting exploration region due to recent successes on the conjugate margin (Namibia's Orange Basin).
Of course, a video about South Atlantic Oil & Gas wouldn't be complete without a section on Namibia & South Africa. Recent discoveries in Namibia's Orange Basin have transformed perceived wisdom on prospectivity in the region. "Only oxic conditions and no significant source rocks south of the Walvis Ridge" - a statement commonly repeated until very recently. The home now is that the play fairway extends to the north and south of Venus, Graff, Mopane et al. We will hopefully soon have some answers to that with drilling expected at Saturn (to the north), and in South Africa.
Our thanks go to the organisers of the BEOS conference (AAPG & GESGB) - we had a great time at the event!

GALP have just announced initial test results in PEL83 in Namibia. It's very successful and the sheer size of the Mopane complex is mindblogging

Early days to get too carried away on the basis of two wells in our humble opinion. Initial results very encouraging. I think all I have seen quoted at this stage is resource numbers. Has anyone seen reserves numbers?

@@TROVE-1stSubsurface will take a few more successful appraisals to get to reserves report. But yes, it's resources so far and a great place to begin in the maiden campaign for GALP and Sintana.

Many thanks for the video and excellent analysis. Namibia is definitely the global exploration hot spot. While Venus, Jonker and Mopane grab attention, Saturn appears to be flying under the radar.

As soon as we know the result from Saturn (and other exploration wells in the area) we will make an update video. So I hope you have subscribed to our RUclips channel - and "ring" the bell to get notified when we have a new release. ATB, Mike

Why not mentioning BW Energy planned exploration well in Kudu in Namibia? They have opened a data room for a major to farm in

I hadn't seen anything on timing/progress etc. If you (or they) have data they want to share with the 10,000's who watch our channel - we will include in a future video. We can't track every asset worldwide. Interestingly you refer to it as an exploratory well on Kudu. Is there a deeper target? Happy to include in our next video.... ATB, Mike

@@TROVE-1stSubsurface it seems RUclips has deleted a previous reply because I included a link. In The Q3 2023 CC they confirmed they saw something further up the stack and that could mean the Mopane sands. The expect the final results from the processing of the new seismic data to be completed in May, but the data room is already opened as they confirmed during the Q4 2023 CC

Searcher completed in Q2 2023 the seismic data acquisition in Kudu and also the block right to the south of Kudu

Hi, we notice some of our replies/posts don't seem to register on RUclips. No idea what the fault is but RUclips must be aware. If you want to send us anything info@1stsom.com is better. Many thanks for the your help and support.
