The subtle Rhodes playing on "Butterfly" from Thrust is just sublime... Listen to it at least once a day......

My friend introduced me to Herbie in the early seventies. We used to drive around late at night listening to the album Thrust. When the part came up for Herbie to solo on Butterfly we just went into orbit. I guess it was the beautiful sublety of him and his Rhodes. I'm now in my seventies and still love to listen to this gentle man.

Doctor Garbonzo, you’ve got to consider how far they or Joe Zawinul would have gotten without having been first employed by Miles Davis. Am I far off in guessing that Miles bought all three cats their first Rhodes models?

I had 3 musicians go out of their way to sign autographs for me. (Never asked them to) #1 was Herbie #2 was Chick #3 was Bernie Worrell.

"Rockit" was the ground-breaking music video that I saw as a kid until I realized MTV knew nothing about Herbie Hancock's other Musical Accomplishments as a jazz artists. VH1 would picked up jazz artists if they have music videos of the songs I never heard of before.

The friendliest guy you could ever meet.
Check out all the records he did with Miles also !
Zawinul , Corea , Jarret played Rhodes also around that time.
Try "Ascent" by Miles....enjoy the analog sound and Miles ' "mistakes".

I’ve already tried my hand at using a suitcase 73 model built before that’s how they were identified. Bought it secondhand from a friend, and less than 10 months later the amp died on me (too much in#house humidity). If I ever get myself another one, I want it to be an 88 key stage piano.

100% agree regarding "hard to blend" .. acoustic piano is solo instrument , but for live performance/blending you can "cut" highs down to 50% and then it gets more flexy (i'm talking about electric "grand pianos").

He wasn't killed by a gun, he was killed by a murderer. Liberalism is the transfer of blame from the guilty to the innocent... wherever you find someone who hates guns, you will also find someone who doesn't support the death penalty for convicted killers.

Uhmm...true I guess??, but if you really appreciated Herbie as an artist, you would have no problem watching the man elaborate on a couple different things outside of directly playing. This video flew by for me, if you wanna see Herbie play, look up the hundreds of live videos online, not an interview clip.

One of the most copied and cloned instruments, together with Hammond tonewheel organ. Although some came pretty close, no one ever truly copied the sound of this divine instrument. Because this instrument has SOUL and very soul cannot be copied. Real thing is real thing and copy is a copy. Let's leave it at that.
