This one wasn't an enjoyable watch; that doesn't mean it was a bad episode at all, it just wasn't enjoyable as you conveyed just how uncomfortable it was for you. I felt that, I could see I wouldn't want to be in that situation myself either.
Just been watching Bruce in Scotland and the fun of group riding and now watching your trip solo, thank god we all love motorbikes and we live on this beautiful island. On my trips I always have days off the bike and have really enjoyed exploring on foot, especially in Europe.
The amount of cinematics and story telling in these episodes is fantastic! Fair play to you sir! It's incredible that you find people from South Carolina in such a remote place! It's exhausting holding your breath while watching you ride through ice and snow, so I dread to think how knackered you are from actually riding it day after day! Great as always
When I was on Lewis I visited the black houses there too and it's absolutely fascinating! One of them had a peat fire and the smell is amazing! But the weather again was intense-the Hebrides doesn't let you go without a fight! :)
Hi Richy. Just been watching your Hebridean ride and your conversation with the Americans. Nice people and stunning little cottage. I'm a biker myself and still riding at age 74, (today as it happens.) I have a Yam R1 2,000 model. Then decided to get into the adventure bike side of things. So I bought a Benelli TRK X as a cheaper experiment. It's obviously not the trickiest bike but never the less I'm thorough enjoying it. I've never been used to bikes with all the latest aids so I don't miss em. I did 4 months riding and wild camping around New Zealand's south island 3yrs ago and also rode n' camped all around Ireland last year, about 7weeks in total. This year I'm planning on riding over to Bilbao to ride Spain and maybe Gibraltar. (Been there with the army.) I'm then going to follow the Tour de France stage by stage through France to the end at Paris, the tour starts in Bilbao this year. I don't have the funds to ride the world as much as I'd like but want to do as much as possible. I guess you'll agree that part of the fun of travelling, especially by bike is the people you meet and interact with. So many folks want to come and have a chat when they see you with a packed bike and I love talking with different people like those Americans. I usually avoid holiday resorts and cities etc. I much prefer to get out in the sticks, villages etc on the back roads and tracks. I've been a biker since the day I turned 16 so heading towards 60 years riding. Though in those times we could ride something, anything without licence, helmets, clothing etc. Different times I guess. Happy days.😀 My whole family including mum, sister, dad, and grandad rode bikes as a lot of people did in those days as ordinary working class people couldn't afford cars. Grandad had a Brough Superior as his daily transport. God if I'd only known then what sort of price they'd be fetching now it'd never have left our possession. Probably passed on to someone for next to nothing. So I was lifted onto bikes to wobble down some lanes by a family member with my legs dangling in the breeze n' a death grip on the bars to be caught further down the track by someone else n' turned around, quite often by the local policeman who was dad's mate, usually still in uniform. Like I said, different times. I really enjoy following you and others, usually on RUclips. You give me inspiration to do even more. I live in Rugeley close to Lichfield so not too far from your area. Thanks for the RUclips trips. Bang on! All the best. Ride safe.👍
@@jimdanby9694 Thanks Jim. I hope to keep riding for many years yet. Guess I'll have to stop when I get too decrepit or mates won't lift me off and on anymore.🤣
NOT ONE fault in camera shot or editing, perfectly therapeutic shots, to natural walking movement merged on to a motorcycle trip diary... Flawless. You deserve all the praise you can get. Screen the next full trip on the Odeon, pre RUclips. Your production deserves it. Well done and thank you. Loving it
when you get caught out in conditions like that, and you have no option but to carry on, it's a mental battle rather than physical; constant, prolonged concentration with an underlying sense of fear. I've been in similar situations and after getting back in one piece, I usually find myself crying after half an hour or so :) It's just the quickest way for your body to get rid of the excess cortisol and adrenalin. It's all part of the adventure....as we say to ourselves.
My jaw dropped when you mentioned you were trying to go to Huisinish! I'm form the Isle of Harris. To of gone down that road to Huisinish in those conditions would of been absolute, utter madness! Right decision to turn back.
WOW just WOW that was intense Mate , me and the Missus were on the edge of our seats in parts , epic footage from your little walk too thanks for sharing, Rich your mad as a box of Frogs 🤣🤣🤣🤣 but a top man 👍
we used to call Timsgarraidh Apache pass for obvious reasons, but may I suggest a spring time visit when everything is green not white lol and oh that ferry crossing is a pain, I used to get the 5am crossing to the mainland and sleep in the car to avoid the sea sickness, they stopped you doing that after the Zeebrugge ferry disaster, my first crossing to lewis (9am in 1985) I was sick as a dog, it was very rough seas and a few nice elderly gentlemen took pity on me and plied me with strong drink, I'm sure I was over the limit when I got off that ferry the only time I drove with alcohol in my system
Fair play to you Rich, you did well getting to the Western isles in January, I'm a born and bred lewis man, also a biker I'd say you'd need 2 weeks to see most of what the Western isles had to offer. You were half a mile away from the proper Callanish stones. Give me a shout if you come back again and I'll show you about. Take care buddy.
Top rate filming & photography Rich; you took us on a journey that was so much more engaging than a purely riding video. Much as I enjoy riding, it's the places we see and the people we meet that make the difference. Brilliant, Ace, Mega :)
Thanks for the great videos ....I used to live many years in Aberdeenshire and would ride to the West coast many times in a year ...never got to Stornoway but made other islands..Glad to hear you are Derbyshire,I was born in Shardlow ,and have worked all over the place but now retired to N.E Thailand...I am now 72 and it brought back memories of West coast visits ....safe riding young man..
You are some kid Richy. You did well on those roads. You need to come back and head south to the bottom of the islands. Short ish ferry ride from Leverburgh to Berneray. You have causeway all the way to Eriskay. Another short ferry ride to Barra, see the planes landing on the beach, and head back on the ferry to Oban. The entire place is heaven on earth.
Fantastic narration, editing and scenery throughout your trip, thank you for sharing with the rest of us. l hope the individuals in the vehicle @ 37:29 faired OK. Greeting from Black Hills South Dakota.
just finished watching two and commenting then see this, the third vid. Again very cool, man are you making some great memories, have a blast and keep it up.
That was the best bike, travel video I have seen on you tube in 5 years and I see a lot. Thank you just awesome work. Oh def turning back was the right choice you can always go later in no snow.
Where do I start! You are one brave guy, fantastic video again with stunning photographs to match. You made the right decision, you still had the single track ride out to Hushinish and back. It’s a stunning road with amazing beaches at the end. Safety first, you made the right decision. I applaud you for these fantastic photographs and outstanding commitment to capture the wild Hebrides. You should be very proud of yourself, that’s a hard, hard day on the bike. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Well Richy its always worth the wait for the next episode , superb filming and those huts the Americans were staying in really cool..a stressful days riding deserves a hot bath for sure. catch you soon on the next one 👏👍👍 Regards Glenn.
Thanks Rich, stunning mate, well put together, nice one mate, never really seen the place till you put this together. Me, Portugal.. just saying (remember your balaclava and your bollockclava for waaytf up there ;)
Who needs motorbikes when you've got a coastline like that to stroll on 3:50 onwards. Great shots Rich 💯 There are some places you can't even reach on two wheels to bring top notch content👍
Being from Derbyshire you must have seen similar conditions on the pennines. Having said that, I bike all over Scotland but never in the winter. I salute you sir.
Have I listen Portugal? Please do come. You won't regret. And if I can help, just tell me. As always, a high quality video, with nice landscapes and a difficult but beautiful weather to ride on. I am loving to visit the Outer Hebrides, and cross fingers for the Northern Lights. Keep safe my friend ❄
Another stunning episode Rich. Amazing scenery, footage, and i have to say that i think your level of filming has gone up a huge notch. Thank you very much for showing and sharing this with us all. Brilliant!!!
Wow, what a stunning place. Another epic tour Richy. Thanks for taking us along with you once again, and for sharing all the amazing sites that you got to see (those longhouses were incredible!). Hope your trip home is easier than the trip up. Cheers mate! 🥃
You're right. You owe it to yourself to go back there in Spring. The Outer Hebrides is one of my favourite places in the world, and in my opinion, Harris and Barra are even better than Lewis. There's a lot you didn't get to see, as I'm sure you know.
Absolutely breathtaking Richie, thanks for bringing us with you. So grateful you chose the Outer Hebrides instead. Fabulous scenery and a compelling story with drama, contemplation and so far a happy ending. 👍
Well done Richy, there is no way I would have managed to catch that ferry from Ullapool! The road out to Hushinish is fantastic but not in that weather - you made the right decision.
Cracking vid Richie and it’s official……you’re a Granny-magnate. First there was Nadine Dorries and her mate swimming in Scotland and now the Carolina Chick dragging you off to see her bedroom. What’s your secret mate. Is it the leathers or the Brut 33? 😉😉😁. They were a lovely family btw. Great that they were enjoying the holiday! Anyway, respect for riding in those conditions and it’s nice to see an Adventure bike used properly! Roll on episode 4! 👍.
Absolutely brilliant. I'm from there, you drove past my village, Shawbost on the way to Carloway. You'll definitely have to return as there is so much more to see. Hopefully next time the weather will be kinder to you. Safe ride!
Absolutely brilliant and well done for staying upright in those conditions, what an adventure, I did the islands in June with clear dry roads , my hat goes off to you Richy for riding in that weather, shame you missed out on Hushinish but yes there will be another time, look forward to your next episode, thank you for a brilliant vid 👍
Fantastic drone footage and photography, Stornoway looks fantastic, really must visit too, although will wait for warmer times but credit to you. Cheers Richy.
That medieval fort is my family's supposed heartland in legend. There are many tall stories, to be taken with a large pinch of salt, about their escapades and feuds with the Macleods. My dad attended the opening of that bridge. He married a Macleod. That probably explains a lot about me. I used to live in Ness when I was married - I know these roads very well. If you do come up this way again, try doing the loop - coming up via Ullapool to Stornoway and back down through Harris, Skye and the Western Highlands. It's an epic journey.
Epic as always Richy, I stayed at the black village a few years ago with the scouts. The kids were in the bottom house that had a very low concrete beam running across it. Both myself and the other taller leader managed to bash our heads on it 😆.
wow, wow and then some thank you very much for sharing the beautifull scenery Richy! We have been driving around scotland and skye last year me and my son but darn this is a whole different level ;-)
Fantastic experience, but a shame the conditions prevented you going further. You were approximately 8 miles from beautiful Luskentyre, but the Harris hills there and back would have likely been treacherous. If you ever go again would gladly recommend some stunning roads and places, many less visited by tourist, in Lewis, Harris, North and South Uist, and Barra. I live near Brighton, and it's a long enough haul driving, but I'd also gladly ride with you.
Just subscribed after watching pt 1. 2.and 3 , just great mate well done thoroughly enjoyed that. The pictures were amazing , they really were superb. Just been looking for Pt 4 silly me 😂 can’t wait. GL.
Some amazing footage and stills showing the beauty and subtlety of nature shot over a rather dramatic motorcycle ride......I really enjoyed it. Good to see you return to the cottage in one piece! Thank you.
Great work Richy , three times you tried to convince yourself to turn around 😮😁😁 you made the right shout I think !!! Weather can really change quickly as you found out.👍👍 great footage .heart was in my mouth watching some of that !! Stay safe .👍👍
Awesome episode mate, thank you. Portugal would have been wet but not as cold and snowy. Book in to Canary motorcycles and get some sun for a week. That’s where I’m heading today. Be safe mate 👍
Quality Richy. Harris \ Lewis is my favourite place on earth. The diversity of landscape in such a small landmass is amazing. When you consider people lived in the Blackhouses up till recently just shows how difficult it was to scratch out a living. Hardy souls back then.
Awesome, Richy. Vlogging at its best. Great video, especially on my big TV. I know the AT is a big boy, but spin it round on the side stand. Safer on the snow for sure. Great photos 📸 too. Roll on Ep.4 👍
This is one of the best videos I have watched of bike touring in my home, Scotland. From you leaving home to this point has been amazing and a pleasure to watch. Thanks.
It’s already been said many times mate. The quality of the 35mm and drone footage and stills, and the overall production is magnificent. Really professionally done with your infectious enthusiasm as allus. Proper enjoyed that pal. Honestly, none better at this than tha’sen Rich.
Got to be the best time of year to see it! So peaceful. Callanish stones are amazing. They were also copied and sculpted as props and used in the TV series "Outlander" .... Well worth a watch with the missus if you haven't seen it already.
Not seen it. Cheers for the heads up! Just finished Happy Valley, and currently watching Yellowstone and 1923, but having to (impatiently) wait for each ep to come out… 👍
If you go back in the spring you might want to go via the island hopper ticket You mentioned Portugal, I did that last year, right down the mountainous eastern spine coming from Glasgow/Santander / Pico's, Chaves to Algarve and the looped round Spain Portugal empty roads, stunning scenes, great people & food. Reckon that would be epic for Wildbad
🤣🤣 Richy your mad ( in a good way ) superb photography and filming. Just going through the planning of my May tour with the Mrs of the Cotswolds and Wales south to north then across the lower lakes and back down through Yorkshire to Norfolk hopefully no snow. 🤔Remember it ain't over till the fat lady sings👍 be safe fella.
Great Video, highlighting spectacular scenery. Watching you ride along those roads, I was glad you turned back when you did, otherwise it'd be a whole different kind of video, being stranded. 😁 I'd certainly watch your "Springtime" trip if you were to go again. Make it a Wildbad trip and you coul all stay in those stone building where those Americans were holidaying. Great episode. G
Twitchin like a rabbit's nose every time you took a bend in the ice! You're a brave and talented rider Rich. Amazing quality photography and filming. Hope the next leg is a little less stressful. Cheers matey.
And to think all this is really on our doorstep......👌profesional level of filming...👏superb.....
Thank you so much 😀
Glad the weather has warmed up at least 2 degrees by the look of it mate . Snow has fuuuuked off . Enjoy . 😂😂
Makes me feel cold just watching with a cuppa. Awesome stuff.

Yes I agree very Epic. Some stunning views. Oh that cottage so so nice. And yes your safety always first before anything. Brilliant 👏 😉😁
Very lucky to see the Islands in the snow, very rare. Great video. Lucky enough to live near Inverness and have this on my doorstep!
Quality Richy. Harris \ Lewis is my favourite place on earth. The diversity of landscape in such a small landmass is amazing. When you consider people lived in the Blackhouses up till recently just shows how difficult it was to scratch out a living. Hardy souls back then.
Fantastic video you done a better job advertising Scotland than the Scottish tourist board, absolutely stunning 🤩👍👍👍
Thanks.
Thanks very much. Really glad you enjoyed it 👍
That was brilliant. Really want to get out and get up there myself now! Roll on the next part 👍
Great job there Rich, good choice turning back. What a beautiful area!
I AM GENUINELY JEALOUS 🤪❄️....loving the series. Awesome adventure. You the man
It’s already been said many times mate. The quality of the 35mm and drone footage and stills, and the overall production is magnificent. Really professionally done with your infectious enthusiasm as allus. Proper enjoyed that pal. Honestly, none better at this than tha’sen Rich.
Thank you, Paul
Got to be the best time of year to see it! So peaceful.
Callanish stones are amazing. They were also copied and sculpted as props and used in the TV series "Outlander" .... Well worth a watch with the missus if you haven't seen it already.
Not seen it. Cheers for the heads up! Just finished Happy Valley, and currently watching Yellowstone and 1923, but having to (impatiently) wait for each ep to come out… 👍
If you go back in the spring you might want to go via the island hopper ticket
You mentioned Portugal, I did that last year, right down the mountainous eastern spine coming from Glasgow/Santander / Pico's, Chaves to Algarve and the looped round Spain
Portugal empty roads, stunning scenes, great people & food.
Sounds super! Good luck 👍👍
Great Video, highlighting spectacular scenery. Watching you ride along those roads, I was glad you turned back when you did, otherwise it'd be a whole different kind of video, being stranded. 😁
I'd certainly watch your "Springtime" trip if you were to go again. Make it a Wildbad trip and you coul all stay in those stone building where those Americans were holidaying.
Great episode.
G
Those stone houses were brilliant.
Would love to stay in them 👍
Absolutely beautiful.
Amazing photography as always loving the clear visor taking the Pinlock still misting up
think this is one of your best incl the old norway and prevuious, Richie do a run down on the kit please, if it stands up to that warm n dry
Twitchin like a rabbit's nose every time you took a bend in the ice! You're a brave and talented rider Rich. Amazing quality photography and filming. Hope the next leg is a little less stressful. Cheers matey.
The next leg is probably the worst/hardest 😳😖
Another cracking video Richy, what wonderful views of the island absolutely stunning.
Living the dream Richy
WoW definitely a adventure, another great vid. Glad I’m watching it from the warmth of my living room. Sunday night great viewing. ❤
Amazed you got the drone airborne for those shots in the wind. Spectacular rugged place
It was crazy windy, too (as you could hear) 👍
Wow what a stunning place and 💪 richy great riding in those conditions looking forward to the next vid
Still pics at end really great.
Thank you
