The extraordinary talent of Elia Bastida warms the ❤...add the smooth sax of Scott Hamilton, master Joan Chamorro and the sliding piano to sprinkle magic to lift us into the celestial realm. Thanks a bunch Joan Chamorro.
gotta say something else. The interplay between Elia and Scott is transcendent. This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard ... ever, and I'm old. God, the talent is just off the charts.
Thank You for such a beautiful interpretation of this song. I had played this piece on alto sax and tenor solo. By far You all had made a beautiful song just Sublime, gorgeous sensual , just Amazing!
There has been some amazing music made in that cramped little studio.
This makes self isolating a complete pleasure
I'm so pleased that Mr Hamilton is helping to influence some wonderful young musicians in the subtle art of melodic improv as opposed to busting out manic scale excersises over every chord progression.
Exquisite - just exquisite.
Scott Hamilton’s solo is a ballad’s masterpiece. (Prez would have loved it...)
This young lady has so much soul! Awesome playing, one of the best violin solos I’ve ever heard. And of course Scout is brilliant.
Meu Deus, que linda reinterpretação.
It's hard to find words to express how good this is!
My jaw is on the floor - and that's even before we get to Scott Hamilton! Elia Bastida produces such a great tone and feeling ... this is jazz I could fall in love with!
That is so good, a lovely arrangement beautifully performed. Thank you for sharing with us all.
Early on people use to say Scott sounded too close to the wide sound of Coleman, Illinois, Ben, Gene and Eddie. But Guess what? They sound like you. You are on top of the heap. One of the all time best.
Sometimes you just happen upon a RUclips session that leaves you with a huge sense of satisfaction and pleasure. This is certainly one of those instances. It's Sunday morning in a pastoral county of England and I'm delighted to have found this recording. My thanks to all concerned.
Fascinating to see her talent blooming year after year and reaching such a level. Joan Chamorro should teach teachers how to teach
Bravo Joan Chamorro, Elia Bastida & Scott Hamilton for a magnificent performance!
Stunning..! No fireworks, no technical tricks - just pure melody. You, Elia, Scott and the guys knocked it out of the park... :-)
And this girl is excellent. Playing her heart out.
Elia Bastida, so multitalented playing sax, violin and singing on a world-class level!
Scott Hamilton makes the rounds himself!
Lost track of how many hours I've spent listening and watching the tremendous talent of the Sant Andreu Jazz band under Joan Chamorro. Beyond all the compliments for the artists, I want to especially thank you, Joan for your energy and soul. I enjoy your expressions when your students have performed an amazing solo. It has to be rewarding. All of the performers play with amazing intonation and jazz expression, well beyond their age. I notice also the quality of the recordings, the lighting, your arrangements; it's everything ! And by the way my cousin began taking violin lessons. I told her, first you must watch the Jazz Kids, then listen to Elia because she's right up there with Grapelli and Asmussen. What an inspiration she is!
Always loves your content, but this is one of the very best tracks yet!
Scott Hamilton Is Superb, Should Be Among The Best Tenor Saxophone Performers.
Me encantan todos exelenticimos todos,, maravillosos músicos y cantantes felicitaciones !!!!!
Elia e scott sono stupendi e il brano meraviglioso grazie
Elia is fabulous, Stéphane Grapelli must be smiling right now. Scott is an international treasure!!!!
Pure magic! Beautiful beyond words.
I want to make a pause, congratulations Elia, you play the violin so great, so mellow, so sweet. Keep playing this instrument because you are fantastic. Thanks Joan for having a vision about these great musicians that you are trying to cultivate.
I automatically give a thumbs up even before I hear the music when it is from Joan and his group. So sorry I never had the chance to be a part of this type of music. Thank you for this from a poor boy who can appreciate what these young people are a part of.
That was awesome. Elia and Scott are made for each other, musically speaking. And the guy on the piano? Don't even get me started. Joan on the bass? I'm so used to your unbelievable mastery, I needn't speak of it.
Elia is a pro on the violin. Great accompaniment by Joan Monne and Scott Hamilton.
That was just *so* nice! Of course, this isn't a band of youngsters this time, they are all adults with serious chops, and that includes Èlia . But still, the quality of the playing and flow of the music was just superb. Well done, and thank you!
If they played this kind of music on elevators, I’d always miss my floor!
What a beautiful arrangement made perfect by these talented musicians. 😀
Elia is wonderful here, such a regal presence on every stage, so focused on the music. What a treasure!
Yes what gift!!
In my soul i felt the sweet smile on Scott Hamilton's face. No sweeter violin have i heard
As near perfect as can be. Beautiful! Let me say it again...PERFECT!
Scott Hamilton at his very best! One of the greatest tenor players ever.
Violin, sax, and piano are really outstanding, and we have to thank Joan C for putting it all together. Violin jazz is very rare and this rendition was amazing. Absolutely tops.
I have grown to love these Joan Chamorro guys ... the competence, the artistry, the dedication to real music - no Starsearch shenanigans here - young and old - all about the music ... Elia is not only a beautiful violinist but also a saxophonist of regard ... and just look at the others not featured here - Andrea, Josef Travers and all the others ... the big band stuff .. oh my!
Sitting hear quietly with the lights down low and a glass of scotch. Connected to a very big speaker....hmmmm, that was sooooo good. XX
Please come to England when this wretched Covid nasty thing has been beaten into submission. It would be fantastic to hear you all live!
Joan Chamorro has breathed life into a group of young people, instilled a sense of wonder & creative exploration - enjoying each moment in its wonder & joy...
To have done that over the last 14 years (+), from 2006 & ongoing..Amazing..Incredible !!
To do that with the beauty of Jazz & Improv.. To create that distillate of pure, refined, fresh essence of the spirit of Jazz.. To enthuse so many, to reach such a wide global audience, that appreciates seeing a living , breathing, creative force,,a tour de force..an entire jazz ecosystem, living, breathing Jazz... Full of Fun & participation.. To embue the young with so much confidence, and energy & skill... In their gifts.. In their self expression.. In playing & sharing & contributing together.. so multi talented, so naturally, versatile, each of them ...Playing so many instruments so effortlessly.. Incredible ! Wondrous ! Divine !!
Bless you Joan Chamorro & all your wondrous musical offspring for the creation of something as wonderful as the San Andreu Jazz Band, the School of Music, and beyond to these new mature groups, Andrea Motis et al - I'm very partial to Luigi Grasso's expressiveness & Joan Marti in playing "Laura" & all the others, Elia, et al - bringing out the best in our youth, and divinely inspired ! No Doubt of it !! Vaya Con Dios !!
Amazing !!
I dare to add: Joan Chamorro is perhaps the most important and effective effort
Worldwide to maintain "the spark" of love for Jazz. And what is still more important, he does it attracting very young people, first instilling love for the music, then showing by example that the world of music should always be democratic and all- encompassing, with a genuine collective spirit of collaboration, and no false stardom-competition. I give my sincerest and deepest respect and thanks to Joan Chamorro.
You people have done it again! You've taken my favourite song and made it even lovelier through your tender and beautiful treatment.. It's no wonder I love you all so much. Now please excuse me as I try to deal with these tears.
You know the music is sweet when all the band members almost make love to their instrument. A beautiful, melodious tune. Thank you all.
Really impressed with what you have been/are doing Joan. You have managed to instil into your students the real essence of Jazz, namely the Soul that the great Jazz musicians expressed in their music. All too often I hear students who play all the notes but lack the true feeling. Well done man
All right. I listen a lot to Berklee and there are very good young people but indeed very fond of fireworks.
There are many amazing things about all of Joan's groups. For sure they know the music and know how to solo, but for me what is so wonderful is that they accompany each other so devotedly. A thanks to you and hope that you are all well.
I am very happy today Mr Chamorro. It is a great feeling to see your children grow and concur the world.
Scott can only sit there and smile at Èlias playing the first two minutes! This is unsanely good interpretatation of this classic tune. Chamber jazz at the highest level.
I’m a 63 year old Brit.
First heard this tune when I was 12, played by Stephane Grapelli on a live album recorded in London. It was the first time I cried while listening to music - never forgotten it. Elia has obviously heard that version and this is so beautiful. Been following Scott since 1977 so full of
love and admiration for what he’s given the world. As for Joan Chamorro , has there ever been a greater guiding light for young Spanish jazz musicians. Inspirational is a vastly over used word but you truly are my friend. Thank you all.
This one went straight to my favorites playlist of nothing but Elia's pieces.
Thank you Joan.
This is marvellous music performed by musicians of the highest calliber-Long may it continue.
The smiles on the faces of Scott and Joan say it all!
Brasil está ligadinho meu maestro
Joan, I hope your music is available in heaven. It's like a piece of it right here on earth. Thank you for mentoring all these young talented people. Sure helps relieve the stress of these troubled times. God bless you all for your efforts.

Absolutely beautiful
Some sort of magician he is, conjuring up one mega talented musician after another. Like the others, Ella can sing too. It's just not fair, I can't stop clicking between this and StreetBeefs.
My day just got off to the best possible start. Such a beautiful piece of music, brilliantly presented. Thank you.
Pretty sure Stéphane looking down at you guys and smiling quietly. Merci
This is just another case of my day having been made much better. Gracias Joan.
Elia, Scott and the trio: your version of this jazz standard is in the stratosphere! Such depth of feeling from Elia and Scott! Thank you!
Felicitação Maestro por otro maravilloso vídeo 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
It seems unfair to single anybody out in this line up. There are no weak links. The excellence is there for us to see and hear!.
Le saxophone de monsieur Scott ressemble au violon, une harmonie des accords une justesse délicieuse.. Merci beaucoup
So many of my favourite songs are being played again by Joan Chamorro and his team of musical geniuses.
The Nearness of You is a gem. Elia's playing is exquisite.
Mui belo maestro, obrigado Joan.
Elia is definitely a great world class jazz musician! This rendition of the Nearness of You was absolute perfect. Love her so much.
Also just saw her playing Stardust and Shine. Truly one of her most lyrical performances. What a treasure she is!
Mui bueno, que viagem ao infinito, do amor...
Never gets old. God gave us music for a reason.
Overwhelming. It's the first time since I've been commenting on these videos on youtube that I've literally ended up with tears in my eyes. And it's not something that happens to me often, on the contrary ... But what Èlia, Scott and the maestro Munné do with this beautiful song is pure magic, pure sensitivity, pure feeling, pure heart. They have brought out of me emotions that I thought were lost a long, long time ago.
Elia Bastida in all her splendour, the authentic, marvellous jazz violinist, worthy successor of the great Stephane Grappelli. Very few performers on the current world jazz scene can match Elia on the violin, and I doubt that any will be above her. In this beautiful and immortal theme by Hoagy Carmichael Carmichael Elia is absolutely sown, with a technique and a feeling that reaches the depths of the spirit.
Joan Monné and Scott Hamilton also play their part and their solos, I can't imagine how the theme can be played better. Scott has already been mentioned a thousand times, a world great. Joan is a fantastic pianist and an extraordinary arranger. Chamorro and Xirgu, outstanding in their indispensable rhythmic accompaniment.
I can only congratulate and thank them for this wonderful gift to the ears and to the spirit.
This version happens to be my favourite, along with Addison Frei's different but complementary piano version: ruclips.net/video/ESUXdVGAq4o/видео.html
Wow, that Scott Hamilton solo was amazing. Loved the comping behind him too, just beautiful!
Violin and piano were so good. They deserve wide recognition.
Absolutely gorgeous! Brought tears to my eyes - just lost a very dear friend who was very very Near and Dear to our family. Thank you for this beautifully emotional version of this classic. Stunning!
Hard to imagine a more perfect pairing--Elia's tasteful virtuosity balanced by Scott's soulfulness. Wonderful.
Love the entire concept of the group. Well done Maestro and crew.
Beautiful music, and players. The smiles on Joan's and Scott's faces as Elia played the opening bars! Mr. Washington cheers to your playing!
Beautiful. Absolutely Beautiful.
Heart and soul! Man, what a great combo. Joan you are a genius, I know I an repeating myself but you are the 'man behind the curtain'. Elia you feel sooooo deeply and offer it up. Thank you again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All my wildest dreams come true!
What a gift to be able to listen to such talent as we close out 2020. A year all of us will remember and hopefully learn from. Bravo to this and humanity.
Más que explicar o definir, simplemente, sentir y palparse en emociones con la entrega y las virtudes de Joan Chamorro Trío y el delicado sonido de Elia Bastida
She melts my heart!
There isn’t any emoticon that exist to express how much I loved this performance. Thank you for making my day!
Hoagy Carmichael wrote this little beauty just for Elia.
Thanks again for posting other young accomplished folks with an accomplished player.
Scott and Elia - love to see these two likesided minds and old jazz souls bound together between the two Joans - Chamorro making the connections and Monné making the arrangements. Perfection!
Joan Chamorro, formando artistas de primera. Genial.
Elia has such an incredible connection between her inner voice and the ability to execute it technically - partly an inherent gift, but mostly very hard work over a long period of time 👏
Gifted people sharing their gift. Thanks.
Beautiful violin and sax. Classy indeed and great phrasing. Anyone with a thumb down must be from another planet.
Sorry wrote this before the piano solo. NICE.
Would love to have you and Elia do more Hoagy, What a treat,Joan. Bill Burrows
I need more of this in my life. Extraordinary.
The kind of soul soothing music the world needs now more than ever. It gives me hope for better days to come.
Exquisita versión , maravilloso Scott , Elia y el trio .Gracias
Great sound. I love this rendition and it’s wonderful to hear the violin in jazz ensemble.
One of my favorite tunes done with impeccable feeling by this group of outstanding musicians. Brought tears to my eyes.
Lovely old tune - lovely young lady playing. Was reading the lyrics and they describe a sweet romance but perhaps a long enduring relationship as well.
I have had the privilege to see many couples advance to that in my time. A very good thing on the earth.
Gracias Elia and the guys.
De grands musiciens...
This Beautiful And Talented Young woman makes the Violin Sing!
Èlia Bastida has such a touch with the vionin that I completely melt down. And then she can sing, also play different types of saxophones, how talented can you get?
And she's superb on the washboard in the SAJB marching band as well.
@@geezergonewile I am not so much into washboards, but you are probably right :-)
Èlia Bastidas playing will for always stay in my heart.
There is an additional charm about this performance, cross generational, the young talented Elia watching in admiration while the veteran master plays his solo
