If your computer does not have an SD/Micro-SD card reader, you can still run the firmware update successfully! Here's how. (1) Download the update to the PC (2) Extract the ZIP which gives a subdirectory with the text and the .BIN files. (3) Connect an USB cable between the camera and the PC as you would to get the pictures off the Camera (4) Power ON the Inspire 1 ... The SD Card shows up as a Disk Drive on the PC just as it does when you get your pictures and/or movies off the Camera. (4) Copy (Drag and Drop or Copy/Paste) the .BIN file to the root of the Camera's SD Card (the pseudo-hard disk). (5) Power Off the Inspire 1 (6) Remove the USB between the Camera and the Inspire 1 (7) Power Up the Inspire 1 ... the Update will start as soon as the Camera Calibration ends! (8) Copy the .BIN file to an USB thumb drive's root, plug it into the controller and the update will run there after a minute or two. I did it this way, and the reason it works is that the firmware update logic on the Inspire 1 is only executed on startup, not while the camera is acting as a hard disk to the PC. Hence you can copy the .BIN to the SD card's root while the SD card is actively coupled to the PC as a pseudo-hard disk, as the code that looks for the .BIN file is only part of the INSPIRE 1's camera start-up logic.
Very concise videos Rick! Okay, I was attempting to update, the R/C controller unit, the other day when my friend accidentally unplugged my card reader housing the micro SD in it. It was NOT finished with the updating though! Now the unit's power indicator LED shows all White lights instead of Green, and the Pilot App reads "Disconnected" when it is actually physically connected via USB. I checked the micro SD contents and it reads "result: cancel". I heard you saying that this is acceptable for the update, yet the R/C unit cannot recognize the craft still. ANY help with this would be very appreciated! Thanks.
Hi I was wondering this that a iPad 2 air? Also wanted to know if u r using the new apple app for it? Ever scent I updated the app my video lag now never did before the new updated to the app any ideal?? I'm thinking of trying to get the old app from my mom iPad an try to put it on my iPad 2 mini it has the a7 chip on it! I try my mom iPad with the old version an it work fine what do u think please help!!
In my app it says update required, but if I then try to update my controller doesn't do anything. it shows just a red light. Afterwards when I try to check what files are on the sd card, I suddenly find I can't access it anymore and I am required to reformat it. What is going on?
hello friend, very interesting all about INSPIRE1, I'm trying to start mine, something unexpected happened, I was updating my inspire and took a long time, over an hour, so I decided to turn the INSPIRE1, because they saw that yellow light flickered a lot, flashyellow flashing, (RC signal lost) the connection between the aircraft and RC was lost, and I can not at this time update the aircraft and the RC. there anything I can do, I'm charging the battery to try again, and get the upgrade again, you can help me?
thank you for the video! I have a question. After the update are you free to put in any other sd card without any issues? I have a couple 64gb from my gopros laying around that id like to use. Thanks
+Wassef Kamal If the update was successful you should delete the file, unless you are planning on updating multiple devices. Newer firmware versions prompt you to delete the source file when the update is complete.
Received my Inspire today, I updated the controller firmware as the app suggested but trying to update my inspire itself is another story, I haven't had one successful install yet as it keeps failing I've tried the formatting of card etc.. When I go into the about bit on my app it does say the aircraft version is the one I'm trying to update to, is it safe to assume it's on there even though when I try to update it fails and doesn't say software allready installed. Also I have no video transmission signal. Please help lol
But as I said before in the app it shows the aircraft as having the version I tried to install 1.9.1.30 Remote version is 1.6.0 Cam is 1.8.1.00 Does that all sound correct to you Can I trust flying it
Yes had the long tone and opened the sd card and the text says update failed. I really appreciate you taking time out of your evening to help me out, how would I go about the video signal 😔
I found out today that I needed to update the RC 1st. I tried updating the Inspire 1 first and it lost its connection with the RC unit which put in in a constant beeping which made you think it was updating. I let this go for over 45 minutes. I then decided to update the RC unit first using a memory stick in the USB port. Took about 10 minutes. Then I updated the Inspire 1. Since I let it previously run for so long, it seemed to have done the update because once the RC connected, it showed both units to have the updated firmware installed. Hope this helps someone.
That's unusual as some have had issues updating the RC first. You don't been the RC on during the update of the Inspire, if you do the RC will loos connection but this is ok. Once both are updated it will relink.
Marionville Multirotors yes, you are correct. After reading some more today about updating, It seems that what happened is normal. I guess the fact that it was my first time made me think otherwise.
Hi guys! I need help. I received today my inspire 1 and i tried to upgrade the firmware as written in the manual. After about 10 minutes it makes a long beep and when i removed the sd card and read the file on the computed it says that the firmware upgrade failed. I've tried several times and it happens all the time. Now the remote is not linked to the aircraft and i can't even link them . I can't even put the Inspire in travel mode . What can i do? Thank's
Try removing everything from the sd card then just transfer the update only and retry. You won't have a link between the inspire and controller till both have been updated. You update the inspire first.
Marionville Multirotors i did that like 5 times and still the same result.I didn't even take the propellers of the bag , its brand new . I'm so desperate.
+Frederick Sarran , OK i saw it too the day after, i put on 1.3 again. and most of the update pop-ups are gone. tomorrow scary test over high grass...fingersX
And what about the extra batteries? They should be updated too,one by one. I made the mistake and now I have a battery error. Somebody maybe formate the sd card after the update and so there are no chance to update the other batteries. Imagine that if you have 4....
Great video Rick very clear understanding of updates usage. I only wish I could afford a Inspire... Still there is always Xmas...
Cheers Martin.
Helpful video! I thought the noise was louder and waited 40 mins until I figured I better check.
Thanks

my display gets frozen so oftenly and at times loses connection with the inspire 1pro.
kindly help
Great Video, Thank you for the very helpful video tutorial.

If you contact DJI they will send you a bin file to unbrick your controller.

I use an ipad air. There is a little lag but not that noticeable.

When a buy a sd card, it's need format it before update or is not necessary?
is possible to recover the connection between the aircraft and RC?

OLA ... I WANTED A TIP FROM YOUR PERSON: WHAT ARE THE APPARELS OF CELL PHONES, TABLETS OR IPAD THAT YOU INDICATE TO USE IN DRONE INSPIRE1?
Fabiano Rosa I recommend Apple. iPad Mini 4 onwards or IPad Air onwards.
thank you for the video! I have a question.
After the update are you free to put in any other sd card without any issues?
I have a couple 64gb from my gopros laying around that id like to use. Thanks
Yes upto 64g is fine. Best use a hi class if your recording 4k.
What good after upgraded ?
What happens if you don't update the firmware? Just curious.
After the firmware update is complete on my inspire 1, do I delete the firmware file from the SD Card or do I leave it in the SD Card?

You should always update the craft first or it will loose connection.
I still have rc connection and I can still start the motors and control gimbal etc just fails the update on the aircraft and I have no video image
But as I said before in the app it shows the aircraft as having the version I tried to install 1.9.1.30
Remote version is 1.6.0
Cam is 1.8.1.00
Does that all sound correct to you

+Jay Pearce sounds fine but updating the controller first has caused some issues. When you say failed it's update do you get a long tone.
Yes had the long tone and opened the sd card and the text says update failed. I really appreciate you taking time out of your evening to help me out, how would I go about the video signal 😔

rick i try follow the link to check the updates but show me 404 error page
Roberto Ribeiro its an old video so I imagine DJI have moved the page or deleted it.
Hi,
i just put the new fw 1.4.0.10 on my inspire, but the remote doesn't start the update
left led on Tx stays red >15min ... who's got the remedy
+Frederick Sarran , OK i saw it too the day after, i put on 1.3 again. and most of the update pop-ups are gone.

gracias me ayudo muchisimo
Great video
Thank you.

They should be updated too,one by one.
I made the mistake and now I have a battery error.

Imagine that if you have 4....
Doesn't work at all if you are got stuck with a defect camera-gimbal. Result: fail.
Had to be repaired by DJI. So much wasted time.
