"That one watch... that will make your penis and wrist grow at least 1" in size... and fill all the holes in your life." Best line in any watch video ever... I died laughing. Well played sir
It's a spectacular watch and my favorite Seiko model. I went a little crazy and was able to get all 5 colorways over the years. The additional 5" is a little much tho. Great review as usual!
Hahahhah 😂 its never too much! And I agree, it is a spectacular piece and one that I think its gonna stay with me forever… however that green dial and compass bezel would look good in the box next to it… not to mention one extra inch 🤷♂️ 😂 congrats to the awesome alpinist collection, hombre! Cheers
A very nice video, I appreciate your sense of humor. I own this watch and it has quickly raced to my favorite watch. Most seiko bracelets are rubbish, sans the King Seiko, those are pretty good. The very day I bought my Alpinist, I carried my new leather strap and had it changed over even before I had left the store.I feel that the cream colored dial gets a little bland or cold when paired with a metal bracelet. The watch appearance really warms up with a soft brown strap, it even looks good with a black leather strap as well.
Thank you, hombre!!! Indeed I recently tried to put it on a grey nato, and it somehow works perfectly and I can’t get enough of it again… it feels more adventurous 😁 Thank you very much again!
Seiko does great with case and watch faces are amazing on some but bracelets are lacking especially since the prices are rising and rising . No taper , pins and collars, 19 and 21 mm end links and hollow end links are unexcusable in my opinion
Absolutely correct, but I have to say I really like this one… yes pins and collars are pain, but you only have to do it once… otherwise it feels super solid and well machined… except for that damn clasp 😂 cheers!
Enjoying your light hearted take on watch collecting. Funny how we attain our grail watch, only to replace it with one more expensive, then convince ourselves that at twice the price, it really is good value. Anyway have a great week and look forward to your next video
Right?!?!? 😁I don’t think this can ever end…but I think that is the beauty of it 🤷♂️ we have something to research, to look forward to and to make us happy that one bit more 😁 thanks for watching, hombre!
Very nice vid! The 1959 is in the lead for a „best buddy watch“ with my best lifetime friend, intending to buy each other this watch as a proof for our relationship. Stunning watch with heritage.
Wow! That is an amazing idea and it would make the watch very special right away! Let me know when you guys pull it off, I have never heard about anyone doing something similar… thanks for watching
Thats my most expensive watch, an absolute banger (i have the grey sunburst one), with a leather strap is an absolute piece, the steel bracelet is not top for comodity (in my case is perfect, lucky me) but is very solid and well built. Quality/price is a 10
It was super difficult for me to say whether I preferred the grey or the champagne dial… but I already have a lot of dark / black dials but no champagne so that was the main reason I fell for the one I got… and totally agree… I absolutely love the watch! Cheers!
Uncle Straps sells a clasp replacement for the Speedtimer. I have a hunch it would also work with this Alpinist. I put it on my Speedtimer and it definitely helps the issue. Doesn’t complete fix it completely. But it’s more tolerable for sure. I can tell the difference.
Someone suggested that clasp to me in the comments, so since it’s a second recommendation I am totally gonna check it out! Thanks!!! And cheers for watching!
Keep doing what you're doing. Make more watch content. You're funny, insightful, authentic. This watch is a killer. The only thing that turned me off is the 19mm lug width. That means I can't easily replace the bracelet. Otherwise, I would have gotten it. Seiko has done this open barn door concept on other clasps. One could park an Austin Mini with fully inflated tires in the gap between the clasp and the bracelet of my SPB155. Same with my Sarb035. I stopped wearing the Sarb on its original bracelet when I got stung by a bee whose swarm had built a nest in there. Anyway, keep it up. You're doing good things.
Hahahhahaha 😂😂😂 you killed me with me the bee nest 😂 thank you very much, hombre! I massively appreciate what you are saying, its incredibly motivating… it is still just a hobby for me in the first place and want to do it for fun 😁 I am now looking at jubilee straight endlink bracelet from strapco… not sure what that would look like, but the more I am looking at it, the more I convince myself it would look good… so I will probably pull the trigger… Thank you again! Cheers!
I feel like this watch would look 10x better with a leather strap. The problem with Seiko, and even their GS watches, is that the bracelets are usually the weakest parts of the watch. I mean they're comfortable but at a certain price point I would think they should include easily adjustable micro-adjustments. But like you said, 19mm is not ideal. 18 or 20 would've been great.
Exactly… on a lot of the models, and it’s a shame, the bracelet feels like an afterthought… this would be absolutely perfect with 20mm lugs and at least normal, decent clasp 😂 without any gaps… it is a shame… the watch head is stunning and the bracelet on its own isn’t actually bad either… but the lugs and the clasp are a real letdown 🙄
I was really considering this one. Well, the green one. It was the perfect colourway (for me) and as you said, spectacular dial. But - there were three big buts. 19mm lugs, of course (I wanted the green one, but that one has a strap, and I'm a bracelet guy, so finding one aftermarket would have been a nightmare) Dauphine hands. I'm not into that pointy designs. And finally, the case. Seiko is king of beautifully sculpted cases and this one seems rather austere. So I got a Baby Alpinist instead. :D
Widely depends where you stay and what you value the most… If history, brand recognition etc are in you criteria then totally… for me it is absolute gem… I love that watch, it feels incredibly solid…
You might check out the uncle strap clasp cover for $12. You can fit it to the bracelet without too much fuss and while it doesn’t fix the gap, it does give you another microadjust.
I dumped the bracelet, massive clasp gap and only 2 microadjusts so I couldn't get an acceptable fit. I prefer it on leather, but Seiko really should really up their bracelet game at this price point.
Yeah they kinda should really… its a shame, it could be really good package for that money with better clasp at least… I think I am gonna give up and put it on strap soon also :) thanks for watching!
Do you ever find it hard to set the minute hand exactly on the marker with this? I noticed that the first time I set the time with the gray variant (SPB243) and that impression never went away. Mine also ran +25 spd unless I set it on its side every night so it doesn't gain 10 seconds overnight. It's long gone now.
😳 no, I haven’t (luckily) got such issues… mine runs faster, too… but by far not that bad… and setting is a breeze… that is actually the part I like the most about this movement, when I have to use the crown, it feels so precise and solid 🤷♂️ I am sorry your experience wasn’t the same, hombre… I love this watch
Did you ever find a satisfactory clasp? I am one of the few who can't get a proper fit, either my hand falls off from lack of bloodflow, or it dangles around like a rattlesnake on my wrist... This would probably be my daily if it only fit me well.
The same! This one makes me really happy, even though I didn’t buy it myself… I would still like to get the green dial one… one day… hope you will get yours soon, hombre! Cheers!
I have the same watch and bought a 300 Euro exotic strap for IT which matches the loom perfectly ;) maybe crazy but It Looks very dressy with it. Taper on the bracelet and 1mm less thickness would be nice otherwise the perfect watch for me
😳😳😳 300 Euro strap?!?!? Jeez! What strap is it? I am super curious about it… otherwise completely agree 👍 bigger taper and different clasp and I would perfectly happy with it! Cheers!
@@WatchWatch-ck6xl i send you the link but i think youtube deleted it. Its from the brand Hirsch. Model: London Alligator. Colour Pastel Blue thickness 19/16 for taper :)
2:50 grand seiko has this issue too, the clasp pop out but not as much as this model, it's why i didnt get this model range in the end, the short comings are too obvious, and i have too many 6R seiko already
Its a bit shame… I don’t understand that something like this gets out in the wild on a watch with this price point from such a big company… I mean they have all the resources they need to fix it… if it was on 50$ aliexpress watch I would get it, but here it feels wrong 😂 Cheers!
I was eyeing the blue dial with vertical stripse quite a lot, it is amazing! My pet peeve is the crystal with a lot of distortion, this is actually single dome crystal (double dome does not have that magnitude of distortion) and it catches a lot of reflection on both sides of the crystal and obscures the dial quite a bit. I don’t know why Seiko insists on using it when the dd or flat would look so much better. Anyway thats just me, congrats on your Grail, I am hoping to finish watch collecting (for a few years at least) by getting Christopher Ward Atoll (white), that watch kinda checks all the boxes for me in a similar way the Alpinist does for you. Fingers crossed I chase the demon out of me with that one! 😂
❤️ thank you very much! 😁 Christopher ward is actually on my radar too… as one of the potential grails, I like the sealander gmt with white dial 🤦♂️ but so far I think a different (German) watch stole my heart as the next grail 🤦♂️ and I really hope it will stop this madness 😂 good luck on getting yours!
