  • In episode 9 of our van build series, we installed Just Roaming's Columbia Heated Floor System. This floor consists of CNC routed fiberglass-reinforced closed-cell foam substructure with CNC-mapped wood overlay with slight engravings that show where the PEX and heat transfer plates lie beneath. This floor is super clean and super easy to put together!

I had the same drive shaft issue on my 2008 extended. Its the universal joints. The OEM Universal joint does not use Zerk fittings. There is a version that does use Zerk fittings. Use the version with Zerk fittings and grease them every 20k Miles. Problem solved. Mercedes dealer tried to sell me a new drive shaft

So why if your floor insulation is c n c,d does it leave the ribbing area hollow below the deck? Seems inefficient and a space for condensation. Also 4000.00 for just this subfloor system without the mechanicals? Ouchhhhh

i bought the coollant water pump 15 kw for that purpose. I did not bough the foam and tubes yet. Are you sure that will not risk to freeze or leak? that what I am affraid. MY floor of my box truck is in thick 2x6 inches and 1/4 inches plywood on top of that. the floor is in excellent condition. look like new and it is 20 years old floor. that is why i don't want water go on it. Also my last question is about the winter time. in Canada sometime is -20 celcius. average -10 celcius. how to be sure the water of the shower and sink will not freeze? can i put inside that floor too?

Loved the van floor build just finished, wanted to give you an idea by using the boat weave flooring that is used on high end boats, as your worried about your height and clearance. Comes in a lot of different designs and colors, But we know that you guys are also masters at this stuff already. We will be praying the vans drive shaft issue works out and we look forward to the next video, Stay safe and keep having your best day, you guys are blessed to have each other , GOD BLESS YOU BOTH 🙏❤️📺🚐

👍 On the radiant floor heating!
In my opinion, I would try and keep all the future van builds a "couple" two person effort if at all possible. 👍
I found the combination of technical "stuff" along with the interaction between you two to be very entertaining... yeah keep the neighbor (in a limited role)!
You know... we are two of the luckiest guys in the world...
To live with talented, beautiful partners (inside and out) along with being able to live life on our terms... PRICELESS!
    Ski Update...
I did a few beautiful runs this morning before work in fresh man-made powder... even with the lack of snow and warm weather the season has been fairly decent!
The ski instructor gig has been amazing....

As a mechanical and thermal engineer, I can guarantee this system is absolute non-sense. I don't know how much you've been paid to promote this, but that's not nice for the people who gonna be scammed because of you :(

@@MathersOnTheMap foam thermal conductivity is not significantly lower than plywood's. Given that the foam is in direct contact with the body of the van, where you can have convection of freezing air, the temperature gradient while be way higher on the foam side. Therefore your system will heat outside your van, not inside. Also the aluminium transfer plate are useless in this case. They are not directional so will transfer up as well as down. You've paid $5000 for an improved engine cooling! Might as well bought a $100 electric mat...

    • @TransitVan350
      @TransitVan350 2 месяца назад

@@ValerienClaire-uv2sr I am an engineer. I have experience in HVAC as well. Heat rises. You need to properly insulate between the van floor and the PEZ-AL-PEX. Using 10 MM of Aerogel blanket should be more than sufficient. I used 20mm in my build.
I put Kilmat down first then the Aerogel Blanket. After assembly, I checked with a thermal camera and a IR thermometer. The radiant system was running as hot as I could get it. The engine was off and it was about 35°F outside at the time. There was no detectable heat loss to the chassis in my installation. The T.C nor the IR showed anything detectable.
I do NOT recommend the installation method shown here. Now if you do not have adequate insulation then you would waste some heat to the vans chassis floor. Aerogel blanket is the only insulation thin enough to use in this application. The stuffs amazing. Most insulation if you compress it it looses its R value. But Aerogel blanket is compressible. It just will not conduct heart..
You use 6 to 10 10-32 Flat head Stainless steel Machine screws per sheet to hold it in place. DO NOT use Adhesive. This way it is removable. Use removable self sealing threaded water fittings to connect the PEX=Al-PEX to the heater.
I also did not use regular plywood. It is not waterproof nor flat. I used Coosa board. You are making a flexible sandwich between two layers of Glass mat.
      LAYERS
      a. Thin Carpet
      b. Aluminum .032” radiator large flat 4 x 8 sheets. Optional Hold in place along edges with #90 spray adhesive.
      c. Thin Glass Cloth / Thermally conductive Epoxy.
      d. 5/8"” Coosa Board / 3/8" ID PEX-Al-PEX with aluminum radiators
      e. Glass Cloth / Epoxy
      f. 8 Mil Vapor barrier.
      g. Aerogel blanket ½” thick or 12mm he height if the floor ribs.
      h. 100 Mil Kilmat 90 % coverage
      i. Steel van floor
The Aluminum transfer plates are not useless. They are radiators and allow you to put heat where it is needed. This system is modeled and very similar to home radiant systems.
The system works and if you can install it yourself you can save a lot.
Also having a propane heater with a fan helps circulate the air and provide instant heat until the system heats up.

would it be crazy to place it in without adhesive? Kind of like a floating floor installation with LVP? Just seems like with the template interlocking and being held in place with the wheel wells that it wouldn't move around much, and if you ever needed to get underneath it then you could pull it up easier (provided your cabinets and what not aren't too permanently mounted.)
