As just a college football fan, I’ve got amazing memories of watching College Gameday and hearing this song and seeing this song Lee Corso put on that Elephant head
Long time Skynyrd fan... Always sing, "ROLL TIDE ROLL" whenever I hear Sweet Home Alabama on radio and still get Weird looks from people wondering WTF did he yell... here in NYC so y'all understand.
Ed King is playing lead guitar here. There is no slide in Sweet Home Alabama, and the lion's share of Skynyrd's slide duties were typically the work of Gary Rossington (Freebird) or Steve Gaines (T for Texas). The only Skynyrd song I can think of off the top of my head that King played slide on was Ballad of Curtis Loewe.
Bob Papadopoulos God Bless 'em All. PS-- I happened to see you artfully and masterfullly present the case on why American Football is a much more physically bruising and tough sport to endure versus Rugby. I saw you played both in your comments and you remained calm, cool and collected and destroyed that idiot that you were "debating with" and who went entirely OFF-TOPIC, every time you presented a relevant point. I've found some links to Rugby sites in NZ that admit the players are bigger and stronger-- and faster in the NFL, though there ARE, of course, some big boys playing Rugby...not counting the ones that crossed over into the NFL from Rugby years ago, like N'gata, et al.... Every time you made a cogent point, that idiot would deflect and incorrectly cite some irrelevant statistic about your name and/or nationality-- which, of course, you had already set him straight about 6 posts up....and probably in your first response. Nice work there and nice work here. Ed's a true living legend-- as are the rest of the original Skynyrd band.
lockandloadlikehell Yea, even as a born Irishman I frankly don't see how anyone could argue against the sheer violence of American football hits, especially those New Zealanders. Not only are the rules more conducive to just flat hard licks, the talent pool is much, much larger in the states. I am, despite being an Irish citizen, still fortunately the offspring of American Southerners, and grew up on both all things European as well as all things Southern. Skynyrd is an area of particular reverence, because my father roadied for them for a time back when they were still called One Percent.
Bob Papadopoulos You've got the best of all worlds, it seems. Knowledge, athletic skill and a real connection to Skynyrd and the South. I'm a State Record-holding Powerlifter, so I was paying particular attention on the site I referenced, RE The NZ "All Blacks" and their listed Bench, Squat and Dead PRs--- and even at the same BW's of almost all these Pro Rugby men, (American) Football players at the same BW would have been almost universally stronger across the board (just considering BW), regardless of the position of either in their respective sport-- though the Rugby players listed totals were nothing to sneeze at either. Just the same, NFL players aren't World Class Powerlifters/Strongmen--- or even National Record holders (or even at State record holding P.L. level--- with exceptions, of course, in the Strength positions---and even some players not in "Strength positions"), although there are some NFL players putting up some monster numbers in some lifts--- but not compared to equivalent World-class PL or Strongmen--- but NFL players also don't train exclusively for raw strength and Power, obviously. Congrats on your Rebel Blood-- mine goes back to Jamestown, through all wars fought under the English King(s)--and then the greatest Anti-Federalist of the American Revolution--- and documented through the War between the States and many CSA ancestors-- including a Calvary Captain attached to Lee's Army of Northern VA-- and many others--- most all whose graves were paved over (at least on one end of NC) in the name of "progress" and too high property taxes--- once NASCAR teams move in, eventually there's no fighting it after awhile. Up near Reidsville, at the opposite Latitude of my family of Rebs, I'm sure there are still many CSA graves of my ancestors, yet to be paved over in the name of "progress" and Yankees moving in--- (although I can't critcize Yanks too much (except the elitist ones that "move down" and attempt to change Our Southern Culture)-- as I'm the product of a "mixed marriage' (lol): Half- TRUE hardworking/farming/logging/mechanic work/horse farm Yankee and Half- true Grey Rebel Deo Vindice brother.
I’m a northerner, and a Syracuse fan. I want my Orange to go down to Tuscaloosa because that stadium seems like a good damn time and I’m sure the pregame is awesome too!
Gene Chizik is actually a great person (and much better human being than Cuss Foulmouth). But you know how it is... student fans can't make it easy on our in-state rival.
Sweet Home Alabama is one of the best rock songs of all time.

The gentleman playing slide guitar so beautifully in this song. ..still lives in Nashville. Invite Ed King south to Tuscaloosa.
Awesome! Maybe he could play a show at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater. I'm sure he would get a huge turnout!

Thing is, Chizik is now defensive coordinator for UNC, a team who had a very good year in their own right...
Thing is, he's there because he got railroaded out of the SEC by the better team in the state, and defending national champions... the Crimson Tide.
Yep, and well he can't win without Cam.
Gene Chizik is actually a great person (and much better human being than Cuss Foulmouth). But you know how it is... student fans can't make it easy on our in-state rival.
