Sorry “salon” = living room not dining room 🤦🏾♀️ And yes, the cost of living in Bole is VERY HIGH! It is probably the most expensive place in Addis in therms of cost of living.
Good to see life in Addis Ababa and the boys again.. Thanks for this one.. The apartments look excellent if one would like.. My visit to Ethiopia will be short., about a week or slightly longer by a couple of days given life and health ....
I get the point.. I am South African. I did notice that here in my country that would be equal to a property in one of the most expensive areas like in Sandton, Cape Town or Pretoria East for instance.. But Ethiopia is another country. I am hoping to get to know better hopefully early next year as I intend to visit..
Nice video. The price for the Apartment is wayyyyy tooo expensive for Ethiopia! I'm from San Francisco and rent is high but justifiable. I wouldn't pay more than $500 a month for a nice place in Addis Ababa. Local people make $30-$50usd at low end job, $100-$120 at high end job,$250-$500 from diaspora spouses or family. Locals would never pay $2000usd for rent, neither would I, unless I was in USA. If they know you're American, the price goes up 3x-5x, seriously.
@@amentehuti-naga4156 Thanks! It is very expensive. Addis has really changed a lot though. It’s not as cheap to live here as it used to be, especially around Bole.
Those apartments are darn expensive for the locals. BTW, are you a delala? and yet again the famous bathroom heaters which stick out. Can't unsee them. are those legos under the couch? Well your salon is a dining - living room combo so Ok if you say it's dining room(I saw the table one end).
They are quite expensive 😬. It’s definitely because of the location. No, I’m not a delala, just doing my best to give you guys some good content. Thanks for watching!
@@princesslivingfree You know, there are so many visitors looking for rent in Addis. If you can grow your network and become a delala I think it's not a bad idea. You can make tons of money. Don't let language barrier deter you. My mom in her mid 70's rents a house in Addis and she rented to so many foreigners. language was never an obstacle in her case even if her English is not fluent. You can be a delala part time. once you're in the biz nothing will stop you. I am saying this because I see a potential in your video. Know the city well, network, get a work permit and start. you can drop brochures at embassies and leave them a number if they want to reach out. You got talent.
When you say California, do you mean downtown LA, San Diego, or San Francisco? If not, it’s not an equivalent comparison. I was also very surprised by how expensive these apartments are, but honestly, we have to stop thinking of major African cities as “cheap”. Addis is the capital of Africa (the AU is here as well as many other African HQs). Bole is the heart of Addis and one of the most developed areas in the city. Just a thought.
@@princesslivingfree I'm in the San Francisco Bay area, Oakland to be specific. so, it's even considered an expensive part of the State. The median household income here is over $93k, which is almost unimaginable for someone to make in Addis. So tell me how is this accptable. Of course, there may a select few who can afford the rent, but these apartments should at least be affordable to someone who is considered middle class by Ethiopian standards.
@@iamnate6415 I get what you’re saying, but the “middle class” don’t live in high rise apartment buildings in downtown San Francisco. Oakland is not downtown San Francisco (it’s not San Fran at all). It’s not an equal comparison. Yes, these apartments in BOLE are very expensive and out of reach for most residents. However, there are plenty of other nice options for the middle class in other parts of Addis. Blessings Nate 🙏🏾🥰. (Btw, I have lived in Half Moon Bay so I’m very familiar with the area.)
@@princesslivingfree I get your point. Downtown SF is more expensive but income is higher too than Oakland. A "middle class" by SF standard usually afford an apartment in downtown (or get a mortgage on a house). Someone in Addis has to be way more than "middle class" by local standards to afford these apartments, considering their income. (btw I know Oakland is not in the city of SF, but the SF bay area includes several cities around the bay). Thank you for your comment though 🙂 Cheers
You are a very intelligent person. Extremely intelligent. I discovered your videos yesterday and your deductions about America decaying are accurate. Africa is now the land of opportunity. Much love and respect. Salam🙏
Don't be afraid of the price. everybody makes his own price over there. But you also need to find the person that has your price, and be tough they think money grow on the tree in America.
I agree. I think we as Westerners now have to stop thinking of major African cities as cheap just because they’re in Africa. Addis is essentially the capital of Africa and Bole is in the heart of Addis. Times are changing, but you can definitely find places within your budget In other parts of the city.
@@princesslivingfree i do agree with what you say to some extent but we also have to be realistic about the golden ratio of market price and living standards (that has many factors to consider). The sad reality is that the extremely inflated real estate market and the lack of regulation hurts Ethiopia so much. Instead of strengthening the economy by encouraging diaspora to relocate back and invest, they drive the market prices up for personal benefits and then the diaspora are weighing their pro and con’s and choosing to invest in other African/western countries instead. That has been causing a slow but steady foreign and corporation takeover, who has lots of cash on hand and a questionable set of intentions for the future 😬
@@sophiefredkin I hear you, however, governments don’t always regulate the cost of private housing, markets do. There are people who will pay this amount of money. Of course, Bole isn’t the only neighborhood in Addis. There are others to choose from inside of Addis and also outside where prices are still very reasonable. For example Shegar city is growing rapidly and still very much affordable…at least for the time being 😅. Btw, major cities in West Africa are also very expensive especially in the most desired areas. Check out the pricing in the high end neighborhoods of Accra, Ghana, Dakar, Senegal, Lagos, Nigeria etc. Thanks for the thoughtful response.

The building is going great! All the walls are up. I’ll do an update video soon.
