/* ---- VIDEO INFORMATION ---- */
Ok so Did you know that the Devil appears throughout Longlegs in the background of several scenes. The dark shadowy figure is hidden in the film and in this video we're gonna break it all down.
I love doing these kind of videos and one of our biggest breakdowns on the channel was talking about everytime Pennywise was hidden in the background of IT. There's also all the hidden ghosts in the haunting of hill house and Longlegs has a lot of hidden details too.
I've rewatched the film with my note pad to pick out all the devil in the details and haven't been this fixated on him since I watched Wandavision.
-
Unlike that though he's really here and in this video we're gonna go through every sighting. I've had to boost the brightness for a lot of these appearances as the figures pretty well hidden in the movie. People on the internet so far have managed to find 10 which many believe ties in with the bible verse about the ten crowns. However I believe that I've found an 11th which I'll talk about at the end of the video.
I don't wanna waste any of your time so let's jump into the first confirmed appearance at 16 minutes.
In the scene we catch Harker looking through some photographs which the character has splayed out on the floor. As we cut to a wide shot of the room we can see the figures there to the left hand side. The demonic figure is like a black shadow with goat like horns protruding from the top of his head.
The devil is described as sometimes appearing like a black goat which is something that also happened in the VVITCH. Showing up for just a split second the shadow then fades away as the scene plays out.

Make a Theory Time on where he should have been spotted.
@@UT1TEXAS this is a really cool idea
@TitularHeroine Well thank you!
There is a shot of longlegs in his home/studio where he is on his bed, motionless and the camera flips to what must be his POV, which is pointed back towards the other end of the room -- his work area. Near the left side of the screen, an amorphous black mist moves across a chair or something. I wish I had bought the movie and not just rented it so I could give you a timestamp but something is definitely there.
I'm letting you know You're doing movie goers a disservice by putting things in the plot in the title of your vid. Thanx for ruining the movie! Dildo
My favorite little detail is how Longlegs looks directly at all three agents who are going to be in the finale through the monitor. Eyeline goes crazy
HOLY I JUST WATCHED IT LAST NIGHT AND REMEMBERING THE SCENE HE DOES LOOK AT THEM……. Genius catch
Gave me chills.
I enjoyed that
The director said the devil can be seen in the movie atleast 15 times
Just tricking people to watch it more times
And those 15x were worthless
Only saw him like 2 times😂
@@andrewcruz3837 not worthless. Details like this make movies more fun!
@@phantomprism7659 lmao you call those details?
I jumped a little and got chills at the scene where harker’s mom walked towards the car with the shotgun because she blended so well with the background I didn’t even see her till she started moving. Great breakdowns, I missed a few devils
Love how the film's framing is designed to make you uneasy by leaving lots of empty space to imagine things hiding in. Makes it even better when there actually are things hiding in them.
Placing the devil outside doors with elaborately designed windows that his horns blend into is another great way to hide him in shots.
Fully agreed with you. Love these kind of things
Am I the only one who would neverrrr notice these without turning up the brightness to max, or even think about doing that to begin with 😂
I was able to get two of them
We saw a bunch when I just watched it. Probably at least 8 or so.
I saw at least 4😭
@@Eli_B3000 one or two are made to be seen, but the others ? No chance 😂
@@Eli_B3000 that cinema must have had their contrast up too 😂
Nicholas cage was terrifying in this role. He creeped me out everytime he was on screen
Yeah, he was excellent but I did laugh a little when he was singing Happy Birthday in the prison because it was just so Nicolas Cage but that head bash scene was fucking horrifying so I quickly forgot about it being Nic Cage again
@@PresidenteBush1337 Same. I was laughing at Nic Cage being Nic Cage while simultaneously very creeped out.
Cuckooooo
He definitely was top at being unhinged Nicholas Cage.
Right? He was so good
This will be one of those films that gets better with repeated viewings. People who weren't impressed the first time around, will revisit it later and have a change of heart.
Or when it becomes an undeniable classic everyone talks about fondly, they'll pretend they were always into it.
@@BloodlessWolf yep lol
Saw the interrogation scene & shrugged it off ngl.
Maybe 1 day
@@BloodlessWolfits dogshit
I just imagine a neighbor looking over at the porch while the devil is standing there and just being like you know what I'm just going to go inside I'm going to go to bed and we didn't see shit. Lol
When I watched the movie I thought everyone saw the devil every time he popped up but I got home and no one was talking about it right away thanks for making me not feel crazy
I noticed the devil in the flashback scene. Then I was thinking if it was the devil .
I saw only once
Ya ain't special. Stop the lying bro. It's bad for you to be out here lying in the youtube comments.
Watched it 3 times so far.....the more i watch, the more i get out of it and also notice how the screen ratio size changes depending on the scene.....great film!!
It's not just the scene, it's the time period as well
I really like the one at 4:36. At first you assume none of them can see The Devil and that it only appears on the reflection, but a moment later it turns out that father and mother are already fully controlled by The Devil. Harker (protagonist) is the only one facing into the house, the father and mother are indeed seeing The Devil right in front of them but they are already his puppets.
It’s also extra interesting because the whole purpose of the dolls is to bring the evil inside the houses for him. He cannot enter the houses himself and that’s why he’s standing at the front door, and doesn’t follow them inside.
I can't really believe the FBI, knowing Lee's connection to the killer, knowing he'd been to their home and him telling her "ask your mother" when asking about an accomplice, didn't result in a squad of police AT LEAST accompanying Lee to her family home. But hey, who said cops were smart. It definitely ends leaving you wanting more tho and I thoroughly enjoyed the panic I felt during the final act as well as the overall atmosphere/build-up. One influence that wasn't mentioned here but definitely is inspired by Seven, and I hate to love when horror ends, horrifically.
She didn't call for backup in like 10 situations that called for it, but I'm guessing the devil had a bit of control over the situations.
Everyone heard and saw the whole conversation in the interrogation room behind the glass so it's obviously a plothole@@Eli_B3000
I mean its her Mother, she was probably pretty confident she could take her solo.
Cops are useless and always have been
@Eli_B3000 No. Blue man bad.
This movie needs a prequel why he became long legs. Can be called short legs
Booooooooo
Nicholas cage said he would never play a serial killer again
@@brettbarton1911 He said he won't play another serial killer. "I know that the phone’s going to be ringing off the hook to play serial killers after ‘Longlegs.’ And that’s not really what I like to do". We'll probably get a second Longlegs movie
@@brettbarton1911 what serial killer , lol have you watch the movie ?
@@LampDoesVideogamewe actually wont. Perkins said so himself. And its a good thing we wont also
Blackcoats Daughter and Longlegs are two of my favorite movies. Longlegs was so much better than i even anticipated.
The blackcoats daughter is my favorite movie of all time and longlegs reminded me a lot of blackcoats daughter I loved how the demon in blackcoats daughter and longlegs look almost identical, I feel like they could fit in the same universe
Blackcoat is phenomenal
Love this movie and I've seen Longlegs three times in theaters and never noticed. As a horror fan I feel ashamed... lol
I’ve seen it 6 times in the theatre and even looking for the figure, I still didn’t find all of them!
how could you not?
I salutes u
Where is nic cage?
How did you not see him in the door when they slammed it at the end of the movie? He’s standing there with his big ass horns for like three whole seconds.
At 3:44 of your video, if you turn the book upside down, at the bottom of the page the devil is in the ink
i dont see it
@@mickey5515It's the shape below the three 6s
Great breakdown as always. Good job mate!
Nik Cage gives a brilliantly chilling, Oscar worthy performance. Love the film.
The fact it’s divisive makes me appreciate it SO much more. Definitely unlike anything I’ve EVER seen
It's the opposite of that, very intentionally. It's part Silence of the Lambs, Seven, and Zodiac per the director. If you haven't seen those, check them out, they are all 3 the same vibe, but dozens of times better written and executed. I liked Longlegs, but it stops short of being truly great like those three.
Nicolas Cage did a great job playing Tiny Tim.
Specifically Tiny Tim from
Blood Harvest
@@roarickshu Tip toeing through the blood harvest
Glad to know I'm not the only one that wasn't Insanely creeped out by tiny tim
If only he got her mother to deliver tulips instead of dolls!
Tiny Tim??? Hardly. I was thinking he did a good job imitating Eric Stoltz in Mask.
I've been a horror fan for 40 years, and I've watched so much over the years that pretty much most films don't scare me or get my attention anymore. Longlegs is that exception, best horror film I've seen in 10 years or more. What made the film great was the way Oz Perkins made you looking at something, the distant tree line, etc. If you recall when Harker visits the house, finds the doll, the nails in the wood that were white, they were all shaped like crosses. It's that subtlety, hiding images etc. along with the complete breakdown mentally of characters, Alicia Witt was phenomenal as Ruth, Cage was just completely out there. Someone should get a nomination for an Academy Award for this film.
How much did they pay you
@@LORDBR69 ^^^^^^ Daddy that gross Troll is back..........
Ghost Stories (2017) is another recent horror with superb Easter eggs
My subconscious definitely picked up on a couple of these. But not the ones too dark for even my subconscious to notice.
Yeah it’s so subtle but you can definitely feel it
I watched this movie and thought it had been over-hyped. Now I'm not so sure. Damn you internet people. Could I not be right at least once in my life? Great reveal, and thank you (although it pains me to say it).
I love it when movies put the secret things in. Like Haunting of Hill House.
Especially when the filmmaker DOESN'T call attention to those things! Perkins and Flanagan understand the power of subtlety while lesser filmmakers would add screeching or deep bass sounds every time, lol
Especially when the filmmaker DOESN'T call attention to those things! Perkins and Flanagan understand the power of subtlety while lesser filmmakers would add screeching or deep bass sounds every time, lol
Im usually not unfazed by horror movies. But i spotted one of the devil shadow figures and it spooked me out and stuck with me for a while, i constantly found myself looking the shadows of room qt nigh 😂
Same 😂
“Usually not unfazed” so you’re usually scared but this movie didnt scare you?
Watched last night and it's different and interesting. First shadow devil I noticed was during the birthday card scene, but the movie had me pausing and going back a few times to confirm I saw something creepy in the shadows.
2:52 😂😂😂
Edit: I actually appreciate this movie more now after this review. I was so focused on Nic’s performance I never even noticed some of these Easter eggs. Top tier breakdown.
Really, he's only in a few scenes.
Also the director always has hidden devils iin the background. Watch Blackcoats Daughter
Did you notice all the political eggs ? The presidents pics - the german car , The dates , if you look these things up you can make the connection- Like Nixon Resignation, THE protestant movemnts that started in Europe , By Martin Luther , Bill Clintons connection to Nixon - ClInton was an activist in college in Nixons era ,There is ALOT to unpack - Nixon Sent a letter right before his death to President Clinton - read all of these things make your own connection @@mikeworkman3593
Pause the film and go frame by frame when Lee finds Longlegs in the box of pictures. The psychedelic frames hold imagery of both Christ and Madonna
The devil had a similar look in one of the writer/director’s previous film The Blackcoat’s Daughter.
They're almost identical I love it considering the blackcoats daughter is my favorite horror movie
It could be a visual reference, it would be interesting if the two were connected but I do think it’s just a lookalike situation. Still works so well
Need a breakdown of Oddity too maybe. that film was interesting
Cage made the movien even better for me - love his range and his insane performance. Made the movie even more creepier. You cannot predict what he does - and even if it feels over the top, it always fits so well and makes the character appearances so.. Unsettling.
Yes indeed! My daughter and I were saying that we'd give a person like that a very wide berth if we met him in reality
Those devil silhouettes are very unnerving...😢
I think there is one cool Easter egg toward the end of the movie. At the end of the movie, when Harker is looking for her mom in the house, The Price is Right theme some is playing throughout the scene. This song is usually played for the next contestant to “Come on down” in the show. Harker then finds her mother aiming a gun at a doll. The song playing symbolizes, the devil calling Harker down for his next move. It is kinda dragging her into his control.
I’ve been eagerly anticipating you looking at this movie!! Thank youuuuuu!! 😍😍😍
Need to find time to watch your last couple videos. Great channel
thank you
The number 6 is recurrent. For example, the asylum is 132 miles from them (1+3+2=6), and the video of the captured Longlegs is 24 mins long (2+4=6)
You know what's crazy? I just watched this last night for the first time and all throughout the movie I swear I kept telling myself and my gal that I was seeing something in the background constantly. I am so glad I wasn't just seeing things. Great movie.
Watched this twice at the cinema. Enjoyed it both times.
Thank you Paul.
Perkins uses the devil/ background in the Blackout's Daughter also. Great stuff!
You wanna talk references? When Lee enters Carter's home and talks to his daughter:
HARKER: I wanted to be an actress.
MISS RUBY: But that'll mess you up.
And who had a traumatic career as a child actress (she had a stalker) before portraying Clarice Starling? Jodie Foster.
Also Linda Blair (exorcist) and Heather O'rourke (poltergeist) - who, incidentally, is mentioned in Longlegs... Carrie-Ann.
I just watched this hours ago 😅 Please make an ending explained!
🤦♀️
Just watched this movie and enjoyed it, especially the visuals. Thanks for posting this. I saw some but thought it was my imagination and I missed others.
I love when Longlegs steals the Declaration of Independence.
Awesome video Paul, the film is so good 🙏
No doubt man, cheers for dropping a comment mate, hope you’re good
If you pause the movie at 1:06:41, when she picks up the photograph of Longlegs, for some unknown reason, we get a strange image picked directly from Raider's of the Lost Ark, Beloch with his turban thing on his head, when he's on fire and about to explode. The image has been Photoshop'd so it looks yellow and red, but it's Belloch. Strange.
My bday tomorrow… I just liked and subscribed 😂😂
The Devil is a "Goat" Hidden in Shadows??
I thought that was just a Stuffed Animal....
[No Joke]
I just watched this movie and I kept noticing a dark figure in the background with (I thought) horns and I just kept brushing it off at the beginning as me looking into shadows too much😂 but then the reveal happened. I thought it was cool how subtle most of them were
The door one was awesome. Since it was so sudden and so close to the camera.
Can’t remember how I first found this channel but it’s my favourite one to come to now after I’ve seen a film, keep up the great work 🙌🏼
much appreciated
Had to come here after watching last night, what an awesome film. Great breakdown
Ey good to see you man, hope you’re good mate
I missed most of these! The only ones I saw were the one in the doorway when Lee is looking in her toybox in the bedroom, the one behind young Lee when she is watching Longlegs hogtie her mom and the one in William's front door when he slams it before the finale. Such a good horror film!
Paul. I really like your content. Good shit man.
That's not what the Devil looks like. He is actually an angel.
Awesome movie, awesome voice! Thank you.
there also " x marks the spot" which is a saw reference
and nick cage punching his head to the table is very hereditary when the son got possessed and hit his head to the table
Let's remember the real horror Perkins experienced in his life, with his father dying from AIDS, and his mother dying on 9/11, as a passenger on the first plane that struck the tower!
still haven't seen it and am looking forward to watching this coming weekend.
I just don't understand why the Devil would be only concerned in murdering families and only one's with a young girl.
They say why.Just because he can.
🤦♀️
this films iteration of the Devil doesn't wish for world domination or anything of the sorts, he's just fucking around and having fun.
2:11 Almost missed it? so humble lol.
Looooool I realised that when editing it, not that humble
Amazing detail layering in an amazing movie❤
The thing with hidden details is that you see/hear it, but only process it subconsciously. It gives you a strange feeling even though you don't know why. It is part of our primary instincts.
The one you said you had to turn the brightness up for because you almost missed it was like the only one I actually caught in the movie. I missed all the other ones including the obvious ones. XD
I really loved this movie!
First thing I thought when I saw Cage's character was "he looks like an old 80's Hair Metal guy that had too many Plastic Surgeries" and sure enough . Great character for a Horror Villain tbh
It bothers me she didn't prevent the man from stabbing his wife at the end. If she was willing to shoot him anyway she could've done it before he walked her into the kitchen.
The director made a film before longlegs called blackcoats daughter, it too has the devil in it and the same themes. As good as longlegs IMO
One of my favourite Movies of 2024 Gets on my List. The Last Stop in Yuma County, Mother's Instinct, Late Night with the Devil, Maxxxine, The Bike riders, Greedy People, Kinds of Kindness. ❤
Glad I saw the film prior to this video title appeared on my timeline.
i didnt even know Nic Cage was in the film until Harker meets him in the interrogation room and i recognized Cage then
Reminds me of trying to find Alfred Hitchcock in his movies. Loved those movies so much as a kid.
you made me really click the like button this time : 0
Actually, not Lucifer... that's Baphomet.
Your hair looks so much better without gel in it... random, I know, but I was looking and thinking, hey, Paul's been look different, less greasy, what is it 😂😂😂. Now I know. 😅
So the Devil is basically just a Peeping Tom in this movie. Gotcha.
Love how, here in America, when you said "the devil can be described as...", they cut to a commercial for a certain person....running for something... bravo, ad people!
This movie left you guessing what would happen a bunch of times, which is why I loved it.
I totally understand by people would hate that about it lol
Just watched this movie. I was entangled by the plot and was wondering at the relevance of the agent until it moved along a bit. Good drama.
So, the devil really is in the details.
Ha! Joke's on you, Paul. I smashed the like button as soon as the video started. Who's clever now, Mr. Theory Time.
And also, thank you. This is pretty cool.
Oooosha
I don't know if you've done Caveat (2020) by McCarthy, can you do that film? I love your analysis videos!
This is so freaky and I didn’t see these details
I love when a horror movie makes me say: well..that could happen in real life.
Another curiosity: in her investigation, Agent Lee discovers that the "X marks the spot". When she visits her mother, the wallpaper in her mother's room is made up of several lozenges, forming Xs.
Great breakdown. Really enjoyed this movie, but my wife said it was meh. Regardless, you just gained another follower on Instagram.
Can't wait for you to break down Alien Romulus.
Cheers from Texas!
Ey thank you
Director: "ok take 19, man goat stand in the corner, thanks."
i saw it about 3 times, i love subtle scares like this.
Pretty much every time there’s a wide shot focusing on lee, that isn’t centred on lee, there’s something in the darkness of the background. There’s many scenes like that
Want to see your TRAP AND BLICK TWICE review , just watched both
Day 3 of requesting Library Breakdown. Folio society books especially. :3
Can you do all the sightings of Pipes in Ghostwatch?
4:38 You can see his reflection in the picture on the wall before the door is closed. ;)
I actually think that the ball inside the dolls is a reference to the Demon core from the mortal radiation experiments. It started sounding like radiation qhen the device was near it and it kind of makes sense that it could be a reference to that
I wonder if Steel Panther's Michael Starr has been some sort of inspiration for the Longlegs character. I mean the looks, the singing and the general has-been glam rock star vibe.
Would love a movie breakdown from you
I was wondering what the T Rex reference was about.
I didn’t love the movie but these videos help me appreciate the details.
I still haven't seen anyone realize/point out that the devil in this film is similar/the same to the Devil in the directors other film The Blackcoat's Daughter
The movies could almost be in the same universe
The 11th possible image most likely isn't the devil but you could say that it's an early form of the devil as it is the first time she meets Longlegs which becomes more apparent after the initially interaction
My daughter noticed right away. On a side note, late night with the devil was scarier. This was good but very hyped up. The premise is the scary part, imo. Kinda like late night but the late night with the devil has MUCH larger repercussions. An archon was released into the world's TV sets vs demonic ritual killings. Scale packs a punch, imo.
