For 15 years, Courtney Warren endured daily, intense abdominal pain and regular episodes of vomiting. She went to specialist after specialist, often waiting months for an appointment, only to be told that her tests results were normal, she could not be diagnosed with anything, and therefore could not be treated. "I would literally feel like there was a snake writhing in my abdomen," she says. And yet no one could tell her what was wrong. At Yale Medicine, Courtney was seen by a group of doctors who did what ended up being the key to identifying her mysterious illness-they listened. Courtney's symptoms and lifelong medical history led to a diagnosis and-finally-a long-awaited treatment. "After about 8 weeks, I woke up and my pain just wasn't there. It was something I'd dream about but something that I didn't ever actually know was going to happen." In this video, doctors Lisa Sanders, MD; Deena Kuruvilla, MD; Silvio Inzucchi, MD; Cassius Iyad Ochoa Chaar, MD, MS; and Joan Cho, MD, talk about the nature of medical mysteries, treating Warren, and the importance of multidisciplinary care.

You know when they gave me my diagnosis of ovarian cancer, I was happy to finally get an answer. It was the size of a football. That was in 2011 and I’m still cancer free. They called it a miracle, I call it the power of Faith and prayer. Thy name is my healing, O My God, and remembrance of Thee is my Remedy. I said this prayer over and over and believed it with all my heart.🙏🏽

What a load of crap. They won't tell you what the treatment was in the video because that way they won't make any money out of you. What was it? Amitriptyline? Topiramate? Propranolol? They gave her a prophylactic that worked, but instead of being helpful and telling us what worked for her we get a load of soft, uplifting music and reassuring claptrap. In my opinion this is not medicine, it is a sales and marketing ploy. I'm sorry that Courtney suffered incompetent doctors for 20 years, but that's most people's experience with the world of medicine.

What if other professions acted like so many of our doctors? Imagine going to your mechanic and saying, "My car is making an odd grinding noise and stalls at stoplights" and the mechanic says, "Sorry, but I don't believe you. I looked under the hood for a minute and didn't see anything. Take your car home and come back in six months if it's still acting up." It's APPALLING how many people have to wait 10, 20, 30 or more years to get a diagnosis or be misdiagnosed or have antidepressants shoved at them because doctors think it's all in the patient's "head". My own grandmother received 4 electroconvulsive treatments for depression because she was told she had major depression........When she actually had liver cancer that was caught too late and it had metastisized to her brain. It was the same for one of my best friends who was told she was just "anxious" and after a year of suffering was finally diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma............This kind of treatment, which is unfortunately very common, is unconscionable. I've also been quite ill for 6 years now. No diagnosis. I never in a million years would have believed that I'd go this long without one. I'd never had a serious illness before. I guess my advice would be don't get seriously ill because there's a good chance you're not going to find a caring doctor who gives a darn. Unless..... I guess we all have to go to Yale to get a diagnosis.

This sounds like me so much...
Im a 32yr old male, been dealing with stomach issues for around 15yrs now, have had so many different tests run, some multiple times by different doctors. They even took my Gallbladder a year or 2 after things seemed to start.
I throw up multiple times a week, stomach fills with acid/bile and eventually causes me to vomit, sometimes intentionally just to feel better. My stomach cramps regularly and have a very basic diet. Im somewhat overweight for being a big guy, but I dont eat much anyway and still dont lose much weight.
Its co trolled my life for a long time now and this is the 1st video or story of someone that Ive heard in a similar situation to my own where nobody can figure out whats wrong.
Still no answers to this day, thoivh I havent completely given up, still work and try to manage my life the best I can. But I hope for a day where I can be pain free, keep some meals down and possibly even be able to socialize like I once did.
Stay safe out there and look out for one anothet 💚 the world needs it

Have you had a scope and biopsy done? Or barium testing? Sounds like my son. He has been struggling with headaches, pain, reflux, nausea for 10 years with bad flare ups every few weeks and then he would fall asleep afterwards. Through my extensive research I discovered that he has abdominal epilepsy and those flare ups are seizures. It's extremely rare. Don't give up researching and advocating...finding the answers yourself. Doctors only have so much time per patient its really on us to figure things out.

I wish only the best to you and your son as well, and that one day h might get some answers and help himself. Thank you for the kind words of encouragement ☺

Had stomach issues most of my life as well. Took 15 years and tons of research on my end, because doctors didn't seem to care or believe it was anything more than a stomach ache or GERD. I finally got a diagnosis of Gastroparesis. I'd suggest a Gastric Emptying Scan to see at what rate your stomach is emptying if any during test, and that can possibly help you get some more clear answers.
I couldn't take the medicine they wanted to give me, starts with an R, so I now have a Gastric Pacemaker. It helps stimulate my stomach to do what it's originally supposed to do.
I have some pain still, but I have been able to gain a little bit of weight. Probably 20lbs or so, which is a lot for me because I still don't even weigh 100lbs yet. I'm very petite. But I can at least eat more than a bite and I rarely get nauseous anymore.

I had intense abdominal pain and vomiting for 8 months. Lost 30lbs. Doctors said I just had anxiety, an eating disorder, depression, etc. Almost died. Saw many doctors and specialists 3 ER visits. One last one I ended up in ICU with severe hyponatremia that should have killed me, was in shock, abnormal EKG, hypoglycemia, etc. Finally got diagnosed with Addison’s disease by chance. I’m very lucky.

It's like if the doctors don't know, they can't just say, "I don't know"......they have to tell you you're crazy, or stressed, or depressed. They just can't admit sometimes they just actually don't know!!! And if they would be honest about that, we'd then have a choice to see someone else instead of being made to feel crazy or like liars. Doctors need to start thinking outside the box when someone has been in pain that long. I'm glad you're better and someone finally got a clue!

Hard lymph nodes, sores, crushing excessive fatigue for weeks. Felt worse, terrified about what it had to mean. Blood pressure was high. Tested for mono, HIV, plague, and the only thing it had to be...no, no, no, NO?! I gradually got better after a month. Turned out to be...I was bitten by bed bugs up near my cervical node, which triggered intense immune response like lymphoma. Nobody in the ER could figure it out.

A condition which was eventually recognised by my non-medical best friend, despite me having been treated for various of its manifestations by doctors, my entire life. Sadly, NHS = 10 minute GP appointments = band-aid medicine too much of the time.

I've had a pain right below my left rib cage for over 10 years.
Every doctor I've seen will look everywhere but there.
And the last few days I've had pain and several parts of my stomach.
Baking soda help sometimes but it never takes the pain away completely and now that's not even working.
I bought a Berkey water system filtered my water worked for about 8 months and then the pain came back.
Why will the doctors not look where the pain is?
Why did I have to suffer for the last 10 years because the doctors are unwilling to look for the root cause. 🤦
The first colonoscopy I had they said I had a cancerous polyp.
The second colonoscopy I had said it came out clean.
Then they did a ultrasound of my right side.
I asked them to look on the left side where the pain was and they looked at me as if I was stupid very insulting.
Don't know if it's heartburn ulcers cancer or something else living without knowing what it is is very frustrating living with pain constantly there's no way to live at all.
