At 52 I became a NYC Correction Officer. I left due to the housing area conditions working a double I. The sweltering heat. You run out of food and water and you are praying someone comes to relieve you! It’s not worth it. I’m a tough cookie but it’s blood money.

@@yi588 Wow, have you ever thought of telling your story and experience on a podcast? I would love to hear it. I live across the pond and have some notorious prisons here especially in London. A lot of B cat prisons ( which are the closest we have to your jails it’s where you go if you’re remanded or just starting a sentence or serving a short sentence etc ). They’re old Victorian prisons that are normally right in the middle of a town or city. But our prisons seem mild compared to American jails and prisons. Even over here people know about Rikers island, a few years ago a documentary on Netflix had people talking. About a kid who went there for stealing a backpack but he was innocent and stayed there for 4 years fighting his case. When he came out he struggled to adjust and hung himself. It was a shocking and sad story, people moan about our justice system. But compared to other countries it definitely is no where near the worst out there.

So the question when you asked the gentlemen about the conditions of Rikers Island. What you have to put into play is that every jail runs totally different. Facilities are structured different what he seen in NIC you’re probably not going to see in another facility. Every facility layout is totally different. For an example the facility I work at the majority of the housing areas or dorms. In the dorm the capacity can run up to 60 individuals in that dorm. It’s up to the inmates who would assigned the job of running sanitation running the feeding cleaning, so yes, some people jump on Interviews and try to downplay the facilities, but the reality of it is, it’s not the officers that’s making these facilities look like this. it’s the individuals and custody that’s doing it the ones who starting fires the ones who are basically overdosing on drugs and potentially harming themselves, and some expire due to that. So everyone is all in favor of closing down Rikers island, which, in the reality of it all closing the island is not going to change what goes on in a facility. People in custody are still going to do drugs harm themselves and or others. So when you open the borough facilities, my question is what are you going to say when things that happening in Rikers Island are happening in the borough? Close the jails? And a Big shout out to Leroy Ebron. That’s the CO I push myself to be

23:56 Disabilities both mental and physical are ignored in a American society. It's not always an excuse some people have issues where they just can't do something or need help to do something, this is highlighted with both the youngest and oldest of a society. Without proper community and or family support most individuals will struggle and or fail at some point. One can do it alone for only so long. So if you feel disabled you can try and work hard but also realize you can't do it all alone. Have faith and patience. Pray and believe.

The DOMINICANS on 172nd St in Harlem had the BEST 🐟Scale❄️ for $27 a Gram in the 1980s. My Plugs Mother would be serving me Rice and Beans at the Dinner Table😋, while the HOMIE was Weighing UP the Oz on the Tripple Beam serving me a FAT line to GO😳. Those were the DAYS!!!!💁

    Too soft for the job,
and that's ok it's not for everybody. These are criminals it's not supposed to be comfortable for them they make it tough so they think twice about coming back to jail.
