@@yi588 Wow, have you ever thought of telling your story and experience on a podcast? I would love to hear it. I live across the pond and have some notorious prisons here especially in London. A lot of B cat prisons ( which are the closest we have to your jails it’s where you go if you’re remanded or just starting a sentence or serving a short sentence etc ). They’re old Victorian prisons that are normally right in the middle of a town or city. But our prisons seem mild compared to American jails and prisons. Even over here people know about Rikers island, a few years ago a documentary on Netflix had people talking. About a kid who went there for stealing a backpack but he was innocent and stayed there for 4 years fighting his case. When he came out he struggled to adjust and hung himself. It was a shocking and sad story, people moan about our justice system. But compared to other countries it definitely is no where near the worst out there.
I did two years 8 months in China as a white man from Nee Hampshire!!! I am banned from China for life and I’d never wanna go back anyway. I’ve never been to prison anywhere else and surprisingly enough my record is clean, I am a state employee with a pretty great job.
I’m always curious to why any American would want to spend time (longer than a vacation) in a country that spends so much of their National budget undermining the USA. Unless you’re a spook.
So the question when you asked the gentlemen about the conditions of Rikers Island. What you have to put into play is that every jail runs totally different. Facilities are structured different what he seen in NIC you’re probably not going to see in another facility. Every facility layout is totally different. For an example the facility I work at the majority of the housing areas or dorms. In the dorm the capacity can run up to 60 individuals in that dorm. It’s up to the inmates who would assigned the job of running sanitation running the feeding cleaning, so yes, some people jump on Interviews and try to downplay the facilities, but the reality of it is, it’s not the officers that’s making these facilities look like this. it’s the individuals and custody that’s doing it the ones who starting fires the ones who are basically overdosing on drugs and potentially harming themselves, and some expire due to that. So everyone is all in favor of closing down Rikers island, which, in the reality of it all closing the island is not going to change what goes on in a facility. People in custody are still going to do drugs harm themselves and or others. So when you open the borough facilities, my question is what are you going to say when things that happening in Rikers Island are happening in the borough? Close the jails? And a Big shout out to Leroy Ebron. That’s the CO I push myself to be
