I have been watching your videos for quite some time now and they inspired me to pick up some of my grandpas old shoes and try and bring them back to life. My grandpa suffers from Dementia and when he saw his old shoes (he calls them his dancers) his face lit up, a smile I haven’t seen in years came across his face, he was over the moon. All thanks to you.
I have watched a lot of shoe maintenance videos and read some blogs or books for learning the skills, but THE ELEGANT OXFORD still amazes me, and reveals a lot of detail in the videos. I gonna say this is the best shoe care channel that I had ever seen. I will recommend this channel to anyone who wants to know how to maintain a pair of shoes in my country. Really thanks a lot.
Great content! Personally, I stopped using the mirror gloss because the wax content is so high. I have large dogs that don't really ever step on my feet except after I shine my shoes. I can get a good mirror shine with the colored high gloss, just takes a little longer, but it doesn't shatter like the mirror gloss. It does still crack. To fix the cracking, I actually use a hair dryer, gingerly, to melt the wax. I go over the cap a few times, letting it cool in between. Key is, you can't get it too hot, or you will have to strip it down like you did. BTW, I love that you mix colors and share it with us. Saphir isn't cheap, so I don't want to just go out and buy a bunch of colors. I haven't seen any videos that have color mixing, and I've watched a lot of videos. Thanks again!!
Kirby Allison lets you buy 5mL samples of Saphir for a few bucks. You can pick up a handful and try them out. I try to spread my business between Kirby and Preston (Elegant Oxford), they both provide so much value in their videos.
rather than starting over, there is another way, I've used it when away from home and can't do a good polish on the road. a bit of time with a hair dryer and some gloss polish can get them back to a decent look... at least temporarily. The mild (don't go too hot) heat of the hair dryer re-melts the wax base. However, removing and redoing is the best way, they only crack like that when the layers get too thick.
Nice one Buddy I have learnt a lot, I am ex military 60 years ago and my hobby is cleaning my shoes as though on parade. Love mirror shine and the polish you suggested is great Saphir. Truly grateful. Peace be your companion in life (Pax tibi sit particeps in vita.
I would use heat to melt the wax. Spit shine boots for 20 years...U.S. ARMY (ABN)(Ret). Used Kiwi, saddle soap, small brush, cloth diaper and liquid wax. You do a great job putting a shine on a pair of shoes. Enjoy watching your video's.
As current serving British Military I can confirm that taking Preston’s advice on using Saphir has saved me a hell of a lot of time, before that I just used Kiwi Black (Not Kiwi Mirror Gloss as it tends to “mist” if it gets wet), Kiwi brown (one layer prior to one or two final layers when bulling gives it a better shine in my experience), a Selvyt cloth and a finishing technique of Water Bulling (soaking a cotton ball with water and going over the whole shoe).
Impressive indeed! What an art you've mastered. I like how you wrapped the cloth around your index finger and the rest of your hand. 11/10 for pro finish here; I'd pay good money for you to take this kind of care of my formal shoes.
I agree with the suggestion of a video about how to address wet shoes. My son recently asked me if I can get some water stains out of his AE dress shoes. Not sure what to do.
Yes please. Here in the Midwest lots of rain. I don't own any dainite AE shoes. So what to do in the rain? Of course, rubber covers for the snow season. Thanks
WOW!!!!!.What a great job!!!!.I really liked the way,how you polished these shoes, with real Love & passion, till you turned them in a real Master Piece!!Beside that, what a calming & delicious voice you have!!!.I`m pretty sure, you are the kind of person,we must enjoy having a good & interesting conversation with, while for example,we polish our neglected shoes,to go to the most important meeting in our life!!.Thank you so much,by such a cool & amusing video!!!. Greetings from Colombia!!!!. :-) !!!!.
I discovered your Chanel and I subscribe in Instagram too. In my country isn't easy to find good products to polish the shoes. I am inspired to make a good job as you do to make my shoes shining as yours. Greetings from Brazil, best regards.
I accidentally discovered a way of repairing mirror shine many years ago. I was wearing black toe capped oxfords in which you could see your face to shave. I visited some friends on a very cold day and sat near to their open coal fire. The wax melted in the heat and the toecaps became dull. So now, if a toecap needs a repaired finish I hold a small hair drier to them until the wax softens, scrub them up a bit with a harder shoe brush until you can see the pores in the leather and hey presto, shine them up again. A pleasant side effect of this is that the warm wax goes into the leather on the vamp part and helps keep that supple and protected too.
Hi. Thank you for sharing your experience on this matter. It's helping me a lot. Until last week this kind of techniques were unknown to me. Many thanks.
My go-to for fixing cracked mirror shine is to actually hit it with Renovatuer, then cream polish, Pate de Luxe and re-do the mirror with Mirror Gloss. This saves your poor leather from acetone. Otherwise I’d go for Réno Mat from Saphir.
I still find it amusing that modern society has no fucking idea why it is we look at men’s shoes I decide their character. Really enjoyed this video. I like how you’re mixing the polishes for a deeper shine. My dad was a military man and I really felt his passion when polishing his parade shoes. Thanks for the memories :)
Have you ever tried using adhesive tape to remove wax? It happened accidentally to me and it really does a great job at simply picking up the cracked wax. I wouldn't recommend using any tapes with strong adhesives of course.
This is another great video. How do you deal with creased/cracked leather over the toes and sides of well worn black boots? Any tips much appreciated 👍
Good looking pair of shoes after you used the conditioner the shoe had a great shine, is it just me or does it seem like some shoes get a better shine than others.
@@2008MrsKim all those Saphir shoe products that he has used cost around 40 dollars. @jesseca should just buy a 40 dollars worth of pair of shoes rather than buying shoe products of the same cost to maintain a five dollar walmart shoes.

I have no idea why this was in my suggestions and why I watched it, but this was so satisfying 😁
You're a magician period. Those shoes looked like the owner should just get another pair. Now they look brand new.
Rico-1911 that’s a little extreme.
Would love to see how you work on a pair of military boots.

This is my favorite shoe model, and I'm impressed with what it does with it, it's beautiful.
Good job
Amazing artwork! The layers, the colors and the shine- everything is awesome! Best regards.
Just a suggestion: Also put owners after reactions too. That might be very interesting because your work speaks orgasmic. ❤️
I wish I could but most of my clients mail their shoes to me
I find your videos super relaxing 😍😍
Always 💖💖💖
Give credit to this guy right now. Your fan from Vietnam
These videos are so satisfying to watch
I needed this for all the days shinning my jump boots back in the day.....lol
Absolutely STUNNING!!!
I often find that nylon pantihose used as a lap brings up a great shine; even on a cracked mirror shine.
Wow... I mean wow.... Today i come to know that shoe polishing is also an art....
Great restoration. As always it is very enjoyable to watch you work!
not to brag but

Great job Preston!
I know this is an old video but I like it. Personally, I always use cajuput oil to remove the old wax on my shoes.
Please, video of Fixing a wrinkle at the top of the shoes!! It’s possible?
Carlos Rojas don’t wear them. There fixed!
Wow really nice shine and what a revitalization
Thats some great polishing skills.
Great job as always :) How much time do you usually give the conditioner and shoe cream to soak in before buffing?
5 min minimum but you can do overnight if you want.
Oh, what a beautiful job! You are a magician, indeed.
Beautiful results from a seriously bad 'mirror shine' cracking. Thank you for a great presentation.
