    People who claim you are a Tesla fanboi clearly have never seen you ramble about various aspects about your car.
    I love your videos for the very reason that you never sugarcoat anything. Like when you borrowed the I-Pace recently, I almost felt bad for them... But from a customer POV this is exactly what I want: Straigt facts and honest comparisons. Keep up the great work, Björn!
    That's why I can't wait for your full driving review of the e-tron. Especially regarding the new e-brake feature and sound insulation which Audi says they have put much effort into (maybe you can gear up on your dB-meter or somewhat standardize your way of measuring).
    Thank you very much!

Your experience with electric cars in different "user environments", and under very varied conditions (weather, road standards, elevations, curvature, etc etc..) is exceptional. I`ll take your advise/opinions over ANY "official" car tester any day any time! Keep your excellent reviews coming!

      Qian Qiao So you agree with him that etron’s design is boring? 😉

    • @QianQiaoTheOneAndOnly
      @QianQiaoTheOneAndOnly 5 лет назад +19

      @@donphilemon I actually do. The thing is on the practical side of things, e-tron is indeed better, and this comes from someone who actually have an iPace on order.
      The thing is, car buying is always a trade-off, one look for the stuff who he cares the most. If you buy a Tesla, you get a good charging network, good efficiency, but you sacrifice interior luxury and build quality and some details, and vice versa. iPace has good looks, reasonably good interior, poor practicality, a crap infotaiment system, and poor efficiency. eTron, seem to have moderate interior, German practicality, hopefully German build quality as well, but we have no idea about the efficiency yet.

    • @redbaron6805
      @redbaron6805 5 лет назад +3

      @@QianQiaoTheOneAndOnly We kind of do have an idea of efficiency. The E-Tron is rated at around 220 miles EPA range, using a 95kWh battery. That range and efficiency is nothing less than atrocious. A Model X using a 75kWh battery gets 237 miles of range, even a Model X with a smaller 90kWh battery gets 257 miles of range.
      The interior is definitely nice. The exterior is borderline boring, almost Ford Explorer like.
      It would appear that Audi got the interior right, but the exterior and efficiency are definitely lacking.
      Also with the charging network in my area being clustered and stuck on 50kW, charging the 95kWh battery on the Audi will be a slow and painful process.
      In the USA, the L2 charging speed will most likely be limited to 7.6kW, so it will take 13 hours to fully charge from empty, to get 220 mile of range. Which means this will be a nice local and city vehicle, road trips will have to wait a few years to be realistic.

    • @Aikaramba12
      @Aikaramba12 5 лет назад +5

      Qian Qiao many years ago since German build quality was a thing. We own a Model X and an Audi Q7, selling off the Q7 soon. I have to be honest and say that the feel of the Tesla and the interior is far superior (2016 Audi Q7). This is coming from an Audi fan boy. To be honest, i think modern Audi interior is comparable to VW Passat etc.

      @@Trades46 The most common number floated around is around 220 miles of range, as seen here:
      insideevs.com/audi-norway-order-e-tron-now/
      The range is around 250 miles WLTP range, the EPA range will be shorter than WLTP for sure.
      Keep in mind that the Jaguar I-Pace was rated at 470Km WLTP range, but ended up with 234 miles of EPA range.
      Which means if Audi is expecting 400Km of WLTP range, the EPA range has nowhere to go but down, and 220 miles is realistic based on size and battery type.

      @@richardpetek712 within 1 year there will be enough 150kw (Ionity) chargers for another head to head, take a look at the map on the Ionity website; almost daily the numbers are changing*! . Audi could only win if it charges 150kw vs 120 tesla, because it is far less efficient looking at the abysmal 250mi WLTP range for a 95 pack. I bet it charges 125kw max though.

      @Richard Petek: Don' forget that you are not dependent on Ionity when it comes to CCS-chargers. Also other companys build them. For example, here in Germany there are 5 Ionity stations, but overall 27 CCS-stations with more than 100kW.

    • @davithdevries6774
      @davithdevries6774 5 лет назад

      @@richardpetek712 you have to give them some slack, they're building momentum, since my last post 2 days ago it has already gone up: 19 stations built and 29 in construction (so that's actually 3 more in construction, as 2 of the earlier 28 are finished). You are right; the start after their announcement was veryyy slow, but if building speed continues increase in this rate they will get to 400 in 2020. Other fast charge parties are also very welcome, I like Fastned here in Netherlands, which probably the reason Ionity doesn't hurry to place their first chargers here. We already have 12 175kW charge stations in our small country (and many more 50kw which will be upgraded). Fastned also publishes charge stats/graphs of all EVs on their website. They report the Etron charges 150kw up to 80% and 50kw up to 98%! For instance, they earlier reported iPace to charge at 85 max tapering at 50% already, which turned out to be the same Bjorn experienced.

    please note that the i-pace are not allowed to charge at 7kw in Denmark and some other countries, as you are only allowed to use 16a on 230v
    so all public Clever charging station has a funktion to detect where you use 1 or 3 faces and then set a 22kw station to max 16a when it detect a i-pace (3,6kw)
    if you get a private clever charging station it come with a 400v to 230v transformer

    I think that the e-tron will appeal to a lot of buyers of German cars. But it looks like an electric tank. The i-Pace is far more elegant and both cars will suffer from high consumption. WTLP range of 400km for the e-tron will mean probably an EPA-range of 325-350. Look at the i-pace: WLTP 470km, EPA 375km. So the Audi will be less of a car for long distance especially when you hammer it. And the EPA range is still more realistic than the WLTP. So yes the Audi is bigger than the i-pace and more a big luxury family car, but hampered by high consumption.
    btw: love the t-shirt ;)

    • @TheMagdiragdag
      @TheMagdiragdag 5 лет назад +6

      Yep they both will lose a race over 1000 km to a Kona or Niro. Better range and able to charge at more than 50kW so they can compete in fast charging and with a smaller battery. e-tron, i-pace & Mercedes EQC will appeal to people that don't want a Tesla and a more conventional car, but because they are heavy and big SUV's / cross-overs they lack in efficiency to other EV's.

Headlight washers, charge ports on both sides, even those safety pulls to open the charge port doors - brilliant stuff you'd expect on any luxury EV. That said, range and efficiency are most important to me so it will be interesting to see if the e-Tron fares any better than the i-Pace in that regard when it comes to real-world driving.

    I think they are making a mistake - SUVs are indeed selling better, but when it comes to EVs, especially at the moment, when we don't have enough chargers, people would prefer a sedan or a station wagon, because of their higher efficiency and range. They should've designed a flashy electric A7 (to compete with the model S) and a practical A6 station wagon (they would have filled a niche - no electric station wagons yet).
    Good review, as always!

    • @Jerubei
      @Jerubei 5 лет назад

      @@vladmihai306 Do you consider the A6 station wagon or the A7 to be cheaper vehicles than a Q5 (which is of similar size to the E-Tron)?

    • @Jerubei
      @Jerubei 5 лет назад

      @@vladmihai306 What do you mean you didn't focus on their price - you said they are expensive anyway, so why not develop an electric SUV, right? Now, on the other hand, I said nothing about their price - what I said was that a sedan or a station wagon would have more range, because they are more aerodynamic, and since the charging network is still bad, people would prefer to have a car with a bigger range than an SUV with a short range.
      Think about it - the Kona and the Niro can go for 500km on a charge, at 90km/h. The i-Pace can't, and I doubt the E-Tron would be able to pull this off either. So Audi and Jaguar might lose their clients to Hyundai and Kia, because they sell for the price of a cheap gasoline Audi or Jaguar. Wouldn't it have been better for Audi to try and beat Kia, Hyundai and even Tesla, when it comes to range - arguably the most important characteristic of any EV at the moment?

    • @Jerubei
      @Jerubei 5 лет назад +1

      @@vladmihai306 I understand your point, but what I was trying to say is that soon-to-be EV owners would care mostly about the price vs. range ratio. So, many Audi customers may choose to buy a Kona or a Niro, which will be priced like a gasoline Audi. On the other hand, rich Audi fans may go for a Tesla, because of the bigger range and better charging network.
      So what does Audi do to address this? They release a vehicle that doesn't offer anything more than their competitors - it's neither cheap nor does it offer an outstanding range. I believe the only advantage of the Audi would be that it will have higher quality than a Tesla or a Jaguar.
      I think their management and marketing departments didn't plan well. Germans tend to evolve their tech slowly, but the EV world is fast paced and they are having trouble adapting.
      On a side note, you are right that a 95kWh pack would be too much for a Kona or a Niro, at least at the moment. But it wouldn't be big for an A7 or an A6 estate, which was my initial suggestion (after all, it fits in a similarly sized Tesla S).

    • @Trades46
      @Trades46 5 лет назад +2

      Unfortunately the world is selling much more SUV than wagons or sedans. It was originally an American trend now the world seems to love SUV so that's why all new EV comes as SUV.

    • @morbvsclz
      @morbvsclz 5 лет назад

      I think the main reason to go with the SUV design was to choose one of their existing platforms that had enough space to cram the battery pack into + of course the popularity of SUVs. You shouldn't forget that the e tron is built on existing assembly lines on the basis of a platform designed for fossil fuels, that never had batteries in mind. Keeps the invest down in case the car flops and also reduces the risks of "production hell" if you just use an existing platform and long established and smoothly running factories.
      e-tron is based on the VW groups MLB platform, the MEB platform that is specifically designed for EVs is not out yet. So the e-tron is still a bit of a compromise in that regard, which the Jaguar and Teska aren't. But so far it seems that e-tron is turning out to be a competitive product despite being based on a platform not designed for that type of vehicle. Can't wait to see what their EVs based on the actual EV platform will be like.

    Dear Bjorn still watching most of your videos with pleasure - thanks for promoting e-mobility :). regarding Audi - that what I would consider "my" brand - used to drive A5 now I'm having A7. And I have to say - e-tron won't be my first e-car... despite I really like the brand... design is simply... bad - extremely conservative - this car has no single eye-catching feature - looks like Q5 after face-lifting... same with interior - its cost oriented approach - take the parts from other models and put them in new car... which of course is normal practice but also shows that the "traditional" car manufacturers are having problem with "old" mindset... the best example is front part - gigantic grill... even if you need battery cooling come on... it looks really awkward. but all this is IMHO ;) looking forward for your next reviews... all the best and thx again

      Bjørn Nyland If you're asking about radar, I'm not sure where it's located. But that sensor you showed was the Lidar/laser scanner. The Audi A8 and A6 have the lidar sensor in the same place and in your video you can tell it's the laser scanner from the fact that your camera picked up the IR laser shining through (the red-ish light in the centre of the sensor at 3:42 or 3:43).
      Here's how it's used in the Audi A8 ruclips.net/video/nUlK6fpveXg/видео.html
      But I'm not aware if it's used for the same features in e-tron. You can search Audi lidar or Audi laser scanner to learn more. Your video is the first time I've noticed it on the e-tron.
