Frostpunk 2 is hot off the presses, so I'm sinking my teeth right in, firstly with a runthrough of the whole story on "Officer" difficulty to feel out where the lore takes us, then jumping back into my old comfort zone of Endless Extreme on Captain difficulty. Many people are asking about my thoughts on the game so far. It's early days, but my impressions are positive. It's a mechanically different experience from the first game and the interactions are far less intimate when you're dealing with groups and districts as opposed to individuals, but the strong theming is still there and the battle against resource scarcity is still feeling good. Time will tell if this is a honeymoon period or lasting love.
***SPOILER ALERT*** Steward, I have played the prologue yesterday with a little more struggling than you did, and there was an event that might have repercussions in the future when I’ll find the dreadnought from New London! You did awesomely here, I struggled a little more with food than you did 😅 but maybe….I won’t find a graveyard in my oil! I’ll keep you updated
It's been... 5 to 7 years. Found you with the unexpected treat of Caesar, scrubbed my way over almost all of EU4 into all Frostpunk vids that came out. Then I got sucked into the most random games I've never imagined watching, like F1 manager, airlock simulator or cutting zombies towards Canada. I know we scrubs ain't the men the loyal twitch watchers are, but I have to say, glad to have you in the red here Jake, and it's a pleasure seeing Frostpunk 2 under your helm.
I AM SO HYPED! I found your channel because of the Frostpunk videos you uploaded years ago. Thanks to those videos, I started watching a majority of your longplays like creating the perfect Hansa in Patrician IV, many of your Caesar 3 videos, Xenonauts, Rance, OpenTTD, Avorion, The Long Dark, and plenty more. Thank you, Jake, for all of the many hours of entertainment and for the many more to come!
Insane to think that the kids that survived the old captains coal mines are now in their thirties with children of their own to work in the mines as well.
Most important things to prioritize in the first weeks of the main game. Without these your development is literally paralysed and you can't develop. 1) matierals 2) prefabs. 3) goods. These are literally more important than food cause if you don't develop those key industries early you literally can't develop, build, reserve, upgrade, anything. Treat these as your steel and wood. These are literally more important to get than food. Good luck all of you Stewards and may you use your inner machiavelli to become the leader New London needs, not the one it deserves. (P.S sometimes it's better to cause a little chaos in order to pass those....special bills that people won't normally vote for in a time of calm. The Austrian painter was given special powers when the reichstag was arsoned).
Faithkeepers seem one of the best factions from everything I’ve learned. Progress is about industry. Equality is about population support and more workforce. Tradition just seems more cost-effective.
Ye could be. I did order and it damn hard in chapter 1 on captain difficulty. I keep lacking either workforce or other resources. When i try reduce resources the sickness wil be a problem and I have like 1k sick eventually. if going for less workforce and more machinery the resources are problematic. Maybe chapter 1 just need all out explorers for the oil and coal when playing order. Anyways I am still learning everything. Cause there so much more to think about as in frostpunk 1 it seems.
@@purpledevilr7463 I like a challenge. But I think I overshot here XD Best i got in chapter one was like 200 days and having all resources and needs at 80% fulfilled.... Then temperature came ruin it all cause I had not enough coal income anymore. And I kinda screwed my frostland to get fuel income from their. Which seems to be a must at captain lvl XD
I discovered your channel trough Frostpunk. Your videos got me trough a very difficult period at school and now I finally get some more ddrjake Frostpunk action.
I love that you don t rush and you explain everything you do, very nice way of talking. i looked in other guys and they just supposed everyone should keep it up with him even though some are new to frostpunk
@45:22 new child born - population doesn't click to 8001 - am I to believe by some kind of a miracle someone dropped dead in the razor thin window of time that the population ticker updates?
Love how FP2 is like a meta level of FP1. While in F1 one u were micro managing structure placements so the guard tower synergizes with the fighting arenas, FP2 is all about arranging districts so synergies between production hubs can be created
Oh thank god, i've been looking for Frostpunk 2 gameplay all day like a junkie desperate for a fix and Jake is here to save the day. God bless the captain DDRJake!!!!
@@LeonardTavast DLC that you have no idea about, so you are blindly paying for something without reviews or details. Special edition goodies has no real value anymore. Long are the days of getting swag, artwork, or booklets or whatever with a special edition game from the store. On top of that, the game is not even optimized. Steam doesn't allow reviews in this period. It's completely dishonest.
2:07:51- Let's see here:Absent of anything that would cause tension- hunger, disease, crime, etc.- housing needs met, surplus on food, materials and goods, and decent relations with both radical factions! You're killing it, Captain!
Some of the channels I follow dropped Frostpunk 2 videos couple of days ago, tempting me to watch. But I know that there is only one Captain worth following. The one who would make sure the New London will survive.....no matter the cost.
honestly, Jack lacey is pretty wise. "Trusts people with flaws". id personally trust someone who is honest about their flaws than someone who pretends to be perfect, whos hidden flaws are usually MUCH worse.
the intro makes me wonder if at some point there might be some kind of "steam zeppelin" which would be like a moving Housing District... that thing looked sick whatever it was, always to see some kind of a flying building like a Factory or Workshop from the first game... imagine one of them ODST dropping an Automation in your city... that'd make me so happy.
The changes are interesting, and it seems like there is a lot more possibilities. While i do prefere the "Building" Style of Frostpunk 1 over the "District" Style of Frostpunk 2, as well as seeing people go to work and back home, i'm sure there is a lot more possible strategies and tragedies now to keep the game interessting. However, seeing cookhouses that are constantly open and not half-dismantled for 2 of 3 days must be the biggest change for this new generation of Londoners "you mean... whenever we are hungry?" "Yes" "And it's not just sawdust?" "No"
I'll say that after playing Ixion, I became a fan of the coinflip moments in FP1. Ixion showed me just how boring an entirely solvable system is, since the events in Ixion are purely deterministic with no random chance. In Frostpunk, your build order and overall build serves to not only solve the deterministic problems of your resource flows, but also to insulate you from stochastic problems like your scouts getting eaten by bears or Tesla's towers cooking them. It adds texture, and you recognize it for its absence.
if you had someone die in the prologue you'd get to see their funeral rites. turns out they worship oil and bury their dead by committing them to the oil wells. which is the state you found the oil wells in. gotta be after the wanderers were gone, whether from all dying or moving on.
Hi Jake. Nice to see you finally playing Frostpunk 2. Btw, I could swear I saw Scarface vids when I visited Twitch some time ago, but now I can't find any trace of it. Did you have to delete it? Is it still coming to RUclips?
Imagine a DLC like Winterhome or The Last Autumn, but you're the Prime Minister of Great Britain, governing London. The game mechanics could support it, since it's a much larger scale.
The last autumn, but the world is done being a snowball and starts heating up again, and we have to deal with heat stroke instead of frostbite because the generations have adapted to the cold, and can't stand the heat of 0°C

I’m so glad you’re enjoying the sequel! I hope very much that the DLC and modding community keeps you busy with challenges for years to come.
