I’ve had one for 5 years, play and gig with it. The stereo vibrato is wonderful but once lived with its the core tones and clarity that make you fall in love. I have a bunch of great vintage Fender amps and it is arguably better than all of them. Difference between guitars is big due to its clarity, huge headroom so pedals sound amazing and it will fill a room with the most gorgeous tone. Designed with Neil Young’s amp tech. You get what you pay for. A modern day classic.
Brett Kingman ...the way it fills a stage and venue is fantastic. I’m in a 3-piece blues rock band and pre Covid we got remarks all the time how big our sound was. You’ll be in good company with the likes of Mick Taylor, Neil Young, Brent Mason, Lucas Nelson...
Amazing tones, I always wondered what amps Keith Richards used in the studio. Then I saw a picture of him standing in front of an old Magnatone. Those crunch tones are super meaty.
I’ve been using the Panoramic Stereo for a couple of years now and it’s an amazing amp. I’m blessed to use Two Rock, hand wired Fenders and Friedman, and the Magnatone holds its own yet doing its own thing.
@@SMAWA9 I’m not sure the Magnatone would suit you if you’re after darker sounds. It has a bright, springy, hifi tone that stays clean way up the volume scale
Had to watch this again. My word I think this is probably the best sounding amp I have heard. Don't think i've ever seen you so excited about something Brett :)
I’ve been pining for that amp for a while-I played it at Sweetwater’s Gear Fest and did realize I was chatting with Ted the whole time. I wanted something that had tube driven vibrato to replace my JC-120... and that Magnatone was it, just not financially prudent now or at the time. The resurrected Magnatone does deserve its due.
Brett, thanks for featuring this amp.I've been wanting to hear one of these ever since I read the ad in Giutar Player mag.It has everything I like in an amp( of this kind) Combo convenience, stereo mode, 6V6 out put valves, vintage style and construction, and of course that special Magnatone trem/vibrato.Sadly the only thing it doesn't have is a low enough price, and here in NZ, it is too much of a specialised sound to be affordable as a one and only amp.I love the cleanish vintage sound without it being fenderish,( nothing against fenders,) just that it is its own type of vintage clean- breaking up in its own way with humbuckers etc. I am happy to say that from your test, it sounds just how I imagined it would.Keep up the good work, and keep featuring new gear we may not otherwise get to see or hear.
That amp. has Abbey Mode built in, such a GREAT SOUND. A ragin Cagin BLUES machine!!! It has that Mississippi Mojo goin there. The Metallic sound is such a Winner. LOVE IT!!!
I have a 1963 M10A, and a 1961 260A that was turned into an amp head after the cabinet disintegrated. The previous owner built a new pine box for it in the original style, but only large enough for the amp itself and not the speakers. The panel on it looks almost but not quite identical to this one in the video. It's very cool. Everything still works on both amps, except the reverb on the M10
@@BrettKingman Hey Brett we're all good mate thanks, hope you're all doing well too. It'd be great to see you over hear and a Vic visit was well overdue for me even before COVID. Fingers crossed.
Find a way. I’ve got the Panoramic Stereo. I had a chance to play one in a store and you just can’t unhear it; the amp will haunt you. Listen to the crunch he gets too with no pedals.
Another confirmation of the incredible tone from this amp. Sounded Ace with both guitars! It is basically two amps in one box, so it is HEAVY! If I were a main stage player, or rich, this would be high on the list! “Dear Mr.Fantasy play us a song...!”
I wanted one since I heard one. This is THE amp for me. I'm now using an old Peavey 50/50 stereo tube amp, it's great- but this Magnatone is a magical beast, ya'll can keep your Dumbles. Sell my truck and get one. Or maybe swap my 76 Custom LP. I'm in love.
I love a Les pail. But honest truth ,,,only a tele can deliver the spank along with the filth. And together amazingly enjoyable tones, sounds, Love that Maggy too.
I've owned many vintage amps over the years, (many valcos, danos, premier, univox,Gibson, etc.. still own a pre date code most likely valco) this amp sounds ,to my ear , to be the only reincarnation that sounds true to the original. Playin the original with the vibrato on would almost make me fall over from the wobble. I almost got that feeling listening to this through my phone. Great tone too. Great amp.
Have you ever played a real vintage Magnatone? I have a 50s Magnatone 213a (rebranded Harmophone for a now defunct suitcase organ company) it’s essentially the same setup as this but one speaker no reverb. It sounds so amazing other amps won’t do for me anymore. I am wondering how it compares to the new ones as I have found no direct comparison videos. I can’t afford one of these at all, but I figure in the future it would be nice to have one to let my amp rest a bit, but I’m not sure if it’s sound is similar enough.
I'm in love with Magnatone and someday when I find a buyer for one of my kids I will finally have one. Are you able to hook speakers up to the back and spread them apart? Absolutely gorgeous sounding.
I play two Peavey Classic 30 Heads in stereo. I will never play mono again. This amp is even better with twin 6v6 amps in stereo in a very convenient combo. Well done, mate.

A: Technically yes, but since it's stereo you would need two of them. Oxen. If you were going to do that, you'd probably be better off with the head version of this amp.
As wonderfully delicious as it is, the version of stereo that Magnatone uses *countersweeps* the vibrato, using a single LFO. So when one side/channel gets a little sharp, the other gets a little flat, and vice versa. I built myself a true stereo solid-state version of the vibrato circuit, with *independent* LFOs for each channel. Sometimes they sync up and sometimes they don't and sometimes they are opposite to each other, as in the Twilighter, but only for a moment. The sound is deliciously immersive. You just want to move in and live there. I wonder if Magnatone would ever consider including a 2nd LFO and having a 3-way option: mono, counterswept stereo, and unsynced multi-LFO stereo.
I'm bluetoothing this to a shitty Crosley record player, but I can still tell that the stereo spread and harmonics on this amp are AMAZING! Makes me wanna sell my wife to buy one.

String Theorist that’s less than regular list price, but if you were to purchase one you’re looking at the exchange buy rate of about 1.43 AUD to USD, the shipping which for this sized box is no less than $600, then there’s GST and customs charge to pay at the border, then you have the cost of getting a good tech to swap out the 110V transformer to 230V, and rebias the amp. There’s also the high risk that an individual amp will be damaged in transit if you’ve chosen to ship with the wrong shipper and there’s no warranty or local support. Lastly, you’re not supporting a local store who is a business that you therefore sow into the AU economy when you’re buying from them. All in all the cost soon mounts up, so does the case for buying from a local dealer ;).
