    Little tip that may help: when you lure him in position, take a larger step back so that he steps past you and turns back into position. This will help him square up to you in the starting position. With a few reps, you can begin fading your hand and Cowboy will find the right starting position.
    Thanks for your videos .. I’ve been on the fence about a blue vs red heeler, and Cowboy is so cool that it helped me decide!

    You should do a video on socialization, I want a blue heeler and I have a whole two page list of things to socialize to, and socialization games but I think it would be cool to see what a heeler owner did to socialize their heeler because then you know what they did to get their heeler such a well socialized dog

    Have you ever seen Hannah Branigan's method of training a heel? I find it to be a lot more errorless than luring into position, and the final position is more consistent

    Awesomeness!! I do walk my cattle dog 3 hilly miles sometimes four. When we hit the beach or back home he gets the Zoomies! Does that mean he’s overtired or needs a good jog? I’m down for that since I am a runner but not sure if I’m working him too much by running. He is a pain in the ass until I take him out. He’s a medium energy dog. About a year old rescue from Texas to jersey. He’s extremely smart and loyal for the short month I’ve had him. Needed this video too. Would love to walk/ run my Ollie off leash.
    After a good walk he’s done for a couple hours 😴 lol

      I feel like the zoomies are different than a structured walk or run. sort of like having a good chuckle and sprinting around and throwing things. Joie de vivre

      Be aware and notice upcoming situations before she sees it. With a small waist pouch you can have high-quality treats ready to feed quickly for distraction.
      “Leave it” could be a command to use once she sees the distraction i.e. squirrel, rabbit or other dogs. Give treats. Then, a hearty “yes!” or whichever praise word that lets your dog know they did well. Lots of consistent practice will make the change.😊

    I have a 7 week old she’s very smart knows sit when is the best time to start getting more advanced with her?

    • @diydogguy
      @diydogguy  8 месяцев назад

      I would start to really lay the foundation with important things like recall. Heel can come later on. If you think she's ready there is no harm in starting sooner, but expectations just have to be that she won't be as mentally developed as she will be even at 6 months say.

    Can you do this with a lead while walking ? My red is pulling really badly. She’s 2 and half years she was really good on walks but then earlier this year she had knee surgery so we couldn’t do any activities now she’s better she won’t stop pulling.
    Any tips would be amazing

    • @diydogguy
      @diydogguy  Год назад

      Definitely practice with a lead on! What kind of collar do you use? Whenever she gets ahead give her a correction. If she is too worked up trying to get ahead make her sit and calm down before you continue forward and repeat until she isn't pulling super hard.

    • @diydogguy
      @diydogguy  Год назад

      he's full heeler, just stocky. We don't bike super far if we ride, maybe 4 miles? I think a border collie's lighter build and longer legs allows them to be a longer endurance trail dog

    My blue is almost three and I’m afraid to have him out around people. He is very protective and I’m not sure if he would bite someone. I am a beginner and not sure what to do. I also have a female that is 9 months old that is totally different. Not aggressive at all. Any ideas? Y’all don’t tear me to shreds. Just trying to learn here. Thanks.

    • @diydogguy
      @diydogguy  Год назад

      No tearing to shreds here Shannon. I will say, most likely because he wasn't socialized enough though. Even if you're younger one isn't like that yet, still very well could be because she isn't even a year old yet. Its super important to get this breed out and socialized in as many situations as possible or they become very protective. I recommend hoping in our facebook group for more tips and advice from experienced owners - facebook.com/groups/2566859556784978

    Hello. Do you know why the Australian Cattle Dog chases its tail? I have a Cattle Dog puppy, he is now 5 months old. At 4 months old, he started chasing his tail. At first I forbade him to do this, it helps for 5 minutes, then he starts chasing his tail again. Then I began to ignore his such behavior. As a result, he bit his tail in several places until it bled. I healed his tail. Training and physical activity is present every other day. I tried to exhaust him physically, I thought maybe the load was not enough. But still, after a walk, he runs after his tail. He has no helminths. The anal glands are clean. He runs after his tail only when we are together. He now has active growth of molars and fangs. I thought it might be because the teeth grow and hurt, so the anger from the pain takes out on the tail, sometimes it clings to it so much that it can tear out a piece of wool. At the same time, if he began to run after the tail and immediately leave him alone in the room, then he immediately forgets about the tail and will never run after him. When I am not at home, he does not run after his tail, he sits and waits for me when I return. I don't know how to deal with this obsessive behavior of my dog. I don't want to dock his tail. His tail is beautiful.
