I love how the lore in each short is ripe for mining and expanding. I seriously hope each of these aren't one-offs, especially Zygote.

Don't get your hopes up - so far Blomkamp has not revisited anything he has done in the past.

Cesska A true but in his recent AMA he said he does in fact plan on revisiting the District 9 world, it's just that he has many other ideas to explore first. So while it's a long shot, gotta keep hope alive!
That's the downside of having many ideas to produce. Making sequels are quite slim, unless he pass it on to another director to make D9 part 2 while pursuing his other ideas.
I really hope that some of these stories get a continuation in Oats: Volume 2. I’m really excited for the future of Oats!

I honestly would love to watch a Zygote movie. I think Zygote would make a great horror movie I mean the look of the Zygote or Jazz Hands ( as I'm hearing it's called ) was horrific, It capture the tension and Isolation perfectly. Looked like something out of your worst nightmares. It sucks that Alien 5 didn't happened but it's freaking awesome that blomkamp is doing these original shorts that are just awesome.

Such a brilliant backstory for this short. I reaaaaally want more zygote. It's so mysterious and creepy. I've rewatched it about 40 times already. And tried to find more clues. Also, Cerberus was established in 2041. Interesting note.

Pretty much the same sound that the Rat King makes in The Last of Us Part Two. One is definitely inspired by the other. Even the setting and fight pacing are similar

And yes he is th future of Scifi if you ask me and if he got to team up with the queen of sci-fi like in Rakka and make that into a film or series... that would be awesome... As before, Blomkamp gets his amazing studio project taken away from him and he goes and makes something even more special. RIdley Scott is retroactively fucking up Alien by making David the centre of everything. Covenant is a terrible piece of shit. Blomkamp however, goes from strength to strength. Zygote is easily my favorite of Oats vol. 1. It has great atmosphere, world and creature design, the tension ramps up and up. It's a perfect piece of (body) horror film making. If Oats can make feature length films funded by us, the fans, its very exciting. Keep big studio fucks and Ridley Scott away. Long live Oats Studios, so say we all.
tanukijessica Without Ridley Scott, there would be no ALIEN universe as we know it. He is just expanding an earlier original timeline - no big deal. I loved COVENANT and the evil David. Something different. 📽
I thought the story in Covenant was stupid, characters all did stupid things that made no sense, the CG was terrible, the plot twist was obvious from the moment the fight scene ended to the 30 minutes it took to reveal it, David is now somehow responsible for everything including creating the Alien and even though the Derelict ship in Alien was there for millenia, somehow it had only really been there for 15 years (going by the official time line from David creating the Xeno in Covenant to the start of Alien) and the engineers had 1000s of eggs.
I found the action either boring or comical and actually burst out laughing when the woman slipped in the medbay on the planet. I have to call her the woman because i have no idea what anyones name was or that it was James Franco who died at the start because to avoid spoilers i didn't watch the youtube prequel, which should have been in the film to give context of who is who and who is married or with who. People were talking about their partners and i had no idea who they were on about.
I kinda liked Prometheus, i forgave many of its problems, but i cannot say anything positive about Covenant. It feels like a lot of shite thrown in and everything ties to David when it didn't need to.
Yes Ridley made Alien and it was great but Covenant is a bag of shit and ruins Alien because everything is about David, not the Xeno`s or Ripley.
He's even talking about somehow putting Ripley into the next one, so i will treat all Alien films from Covenant as fan fiction and not canon.
I've never hated a film more than Covenant, i hate everythign about it, the direction, the cinematography, the lighting, the music, the editing, the FX, the acting, the story, the production design.
Ridley makes good looking sci fi movies (costume/set design) but thats about it
I AM # 4 Yep, Ridley help set one of the cinematic standards with ALIEN (1979) and BLADE RUNNER (1982) which even carries over into media releases like DEAD SPACE and ZYGOTE.
Ridley does much more than just make good looking sci-fi movies. Have his most recent movies been very disappointing, asides from The Martian, definitely but to say that all he can do is make a good looking movie and nothing else is a disservice to Ridley Scott. Both Alien and Blade Runner are sci-fi masterpieces and have much more merit to them then that they are just good looking. He has also made Gladiator, Thelma & Louise as well as some other movies that are not sci-fi that are classics and very good movies. Ridley Scott is a fantastic director just not anymore really. He's too old and has lost that touch he had at a younger age but he still deserves a lot of respect as an incredible director in my opinion.
Never have I devotedly watched all episodes as soon as they come out. Thanks OATS and keep up the great work!

It's interesting to me, that so much of the back story has been laid out in such great detail. At the very least, it gives me hope that we will get to see more of this story! I really hope that we do. :)

yall are gonna kill it when you take these to full length films.Oats, youre doing something amazing. The production value, the directing, and the stories have so much potential! Zygote feels like a halflife/doom done right. Firebase reminds me of Apocolypse now meets Diablo (so sick!) and Rakka looks like it has the chance to be the best alien invasion movie of all time. Amazing stuff!

Instead wasting millions of dollars on those barely mediocre superhero flicks, if big studios like WB & Fox at least provide one-third of those budget & the FREEDOM to Neil & his crew, then these talented bunch can definitely do something far more worthy & awesome than any of those superhero flicks & Ridley Scott's new Alien trash combined!

I love how Hollywood is just rehashing stories or writing shitty ones with 150 million dollars budgets, but Neil sets up a studio and makes good movies at the speed of a small automatic rifle.

This movie would have been an instant legend alongside the original predator, aliens and the thing franchises. It would have also filled in a gaping hole left by the lack of these types of cosmic horror movies being made nowadays. Some are actually good like underwater with Kristen Stewart but this had the making of a masterpiece.

Fun fact: Zygote was filmed at The Diefenbunker, the Canadian government's cold-war fallout shelter and now a museum. When the Diefenbunker was in operation it was known as Canadian Forces Station Carp. The official crest for CFS Carp contained Cerberus, the 3-headed dog that guards the gates of hell and shares it's name with the fictional mining company in Zygote.
The dining room in Zygote is the same one as the Diefenbunker, and the vault in the short was The Canadian Mint's vault for the nation's gold supply in case of a nuclear attack.
