As someone who went from EV800D's to DJI the thing I immediately notice is the "fuzziness" on the rapidfire especially in the background trees when flying outside. Is this normal? Really appreciate that you use stuff for a while before making a review, instead of just using it an afternoon and calling it a day. Cheers for all your content.
I was also noticing the dvr difference. left that talking point out as I wasn't certain if my eyes were playing tricks on me or not. It did make me go back and double check the dvr sources
I received a defective set, Banggood tells me I must find a local repair shop... I should not be expected to repair a brand new product, under warranty with a 30-day refund/replacement guarantee, by a 3rd party electronic repair shop ( that does not exist in South Africa ) and Void the warranty in the process. Loving it!
@@NickBurnsFPV Thanks, Did it on Friday, I suppose I'll see this week. I have to apologize, Looking back on it now, it's super petty of me to use your channel as a platform to air my frustration. Your video was in their description of the goggles and they're blocking my 1-star review. Without thinking, I posted it on your channel to make myself heard, I suppose, I don't know... but I sure didn't think you'd see this or even reply, and now I feel ashamed. I love your work and you're an inspiration. Been a huge fan since I started FPV, May 2020 and googled why these little things fly so terrible. @@xeromool No worries, you have nothing to be ashamed of. I appreciate your reflection, and I understand your frustration. Customer service in this hobby is a struggle. Yeah, is it just me that thinks it looks better on the CobraX? What a great "entry" googles, I was considering the SKY04L, but it's hard to spend the extra cash when considering I might want the HDZERO googles at the end of the year. Great review, as always, thank you for your clarity and unbiased videos!
Glad you found what it is. I don't deal much in hdmi, I just gabbed a cable and it fit. I suspect if its mini than the standard must be the ones we use on TVs.
Good review......Image quality on the Skyzones look as good if not better than the Orca`s on this review....£167 as opposed to £500+ for the Orca`s....How good is that....Skyzone are hitting the spot on there whole range at the moment.
I don't believe you have them but will love a comparison with the Fatshark Scout (the one I use these days). The one big advange I see in the is the HDMI input.
very likely. I think they can be hard to get. I think somehow skyzone may have used another companies design and have been forced to remove it from the market. I could be wrong on the details, but I noticed banggood didn't have the product on their site last I checked.
@@NickBurnsFPV i think the sky 04x were like a solid month before , but I cold be wrong , the receiver (or something like reeeealy simular) is in the ev300o or however that are called , which they were relased a sold month before sky04x . I recently bought the sky04x and they are great , if you are doing a review of them could you include how they pair with shark byte please ? Since that's probably my next move
@@NickBurnsFPV it's called rapid mix but it literally looks exactly the same as the stedy view , there are like component level differences I think but it's essential the same thing
Another really good, through review !! Box goggles have stepped up their game. I have HDO's and I don't need glasses ( yet ) , but I can now suggest these to someone that needs their glasses !!
I would not get the Quanum at this point in time, a bit outdated. These look much better. However, the other option for people with glasses are the goggles with focus adjusters like the eachine ev300o.
Nice, i was looking at those if ever needed, i still have HD3s and have diopters on those. Figure if i upgrade, i will have to 3d print my own diopter setup for whatever goggles i get. Gf has been getting into FPV and she has thick glasses, so I figure a box goggle like this will be needed. I buy after market batteries and generally get good results out of each batch. I check them thoroughly for resistance and rate them on the website
So it's kinda hard to tell what you really think of these. I really wish you would have tried some better antennas, something more comparible or swapped the antennas between the two goggles to show a more comparible review. Because it seems like you're not giving the steadyview receiver a chance to show what it can do. I bought these but haven't taken them outside, I don't fly in the wet slushy weather we're having here in Michigan this year. I really hope you do another video on these, pretty please with some good antennas?
Its possible provided time and weather to do another test. I am a bit surprised to hear that its hard to tell how I feel about them. In short I think they are very good and very budget friendly for a highend box goggle.
@@NickBurnsFPV yeah sorry Nick, I paused the video about half way through to write that comment, then I continued watching it and figured it out. Sorry about that, I guess I need to watch the whole video before making my comment, its a bad habit of mine. But I always finish watching them after my comments. It's just easier because if the video goes to the end, then it automatically loads another video and I have to back track to get to the original video again. Just a little pain in the ass, but not that difficult I suppose. Great video btw, and I love seeing you buzz around while your kids are busy with their projects and they don't think anything about the drone zipping by them! It's good for a chuckle.
Now in my 40’s, I NEED to wear a set of readers to even read my cell phone.. My single biggest complaint about this hobby is why don’t they make goggles so your glasses can be worn?? So many people need glasses these days.. I use a set of Skyzones 03x goggles. Other than switching to box goggles, is there anything I can do to help?? I am told that diopter inserts will not help me. My readers have to be 2.5 X for me to see good.. That is the ONLY reason I have not invested in the DJI digital system. I don’t think glasses will fit under them..
There is a german company that makes custom diopters that would essentially be the same as the lenses in your glasses. They are expensive though, like $90. I don't recall the name of the company. This might be them rho-lens.com/rho-lens-fpl-v2/
@@NickBurnsFPV Thank you for that info. It is enough of a problem that I am willing to spend the $90 to get whatever I have to.. It’s a German company huh.. Any guess what I would google to try to find them?? Thanks again. Mike
I can't say specifically. During my testing sometime I was using them and other times not. I would need to rewatch to see if I can tell which goggles I have on. I am sitting at the table if that helps.
i wear glasses (far sighted with astigmatism) so goggles are a questionable proposition at best.... I fly with a monitor (eachine 10"). can you recommend a high end monitor? definitely willing to pay for quality but I keep coming blank in my research. Im surprised DJI doesn't make a proper HD monitor....
I get the difference between the two. But thanks. I can’t seem to find info on what type the goggles have so I can acquire the right kind for the goggle.
do you feel you must wear glasses to see clearly ? i use a 2x reader for small print but i can see just fine with my fatshark scouts without glasses .have you tried these without glasses? if so how was it ?
The latency is twice the ev300o with the same module, no idea how they achieved that with half the screens. They probably run the same hardware, after all. If it wasn't for that, I would've already ordered them. The EV800D is still a great goggle after two years of cruising and bruising my quads, but the FOV is just a little too wide for me to commit to the right hand moves, as I only have one working eye. I can't see the right hand side properly. I know manufacturers release firmwares to fix issues, but I'm still to see a goggle to get an update that fixes a latency without compromising something else . . which is why I'm sad they botched this one. I'd rather buy the DJI goggles and run analog signal through them, the difference is only 10ms to these on that kind of setup.
@@ValFPV Apparently they had fuzzy screen and I already have the ev800d, I'd rather mod these to accept the modules. The fatshark scouts had fringing issues due to the mirror setup this one uses but nobody has mentioned it yet, so guess they figured that one out on these. It's not like the latency is 100ms but it's too obvious of an oversight, too 🤷♂️
I wear glasses & I use fat shark scout to fly with my glasses on, I’m planning to get the skyzone cobra-x but only if it has lower latency than the fat shark scout. Could you please help me out with my query.
I don't believe there will be a latency difference. Fatshark makes high quality goggles. Curious your feeling a latency? Does it happen with or without recording dvr footage? By chance is the latency specific to a quad with on board hd recording?
I do not have the goggles any longer. I have read of that problem which isn't specific to Skyzone or the cobra goggles. The typical fix is a firmware update to the receiver.
hi Nick i hope you're well i have these goggles, im a bit confused on these, there's a menu i keep seeing online for the cobra x that shows 3 options but mine has lots more options, like tf normal/ rf race / clear view/ diversity, im not sure what they all mean, do you have any insights ? thankyou
I can really elaborate more than the manual does. its been a good long while since I have used these goggles. Page 5 of the manual describes the different modes cdn.shopifycdn.net/s/files/1/0597/9668/4956/files/COBRAUSERMANUALENSKYZONEXS20211123.pdf?v=1660200058
Hi Nick Skyzone replaced my Cobra S because of a unfixable issue and they sent me the Cobra SD goggles about 7 months ago and they synched up to my analog drones just fine but yesterday as i was prepping to fly i could not get an image syncing to my 2 drones which are the hglrc Arrow3 4s and the Eachine Lal3 4s. I turned on RSSI in the Cobra and i got nothing so i went into Betaflight in the Video Transmitter tab and i changed the channel to 1 and frequency to 5733 and again i get no images from both of my quads. I even changed the band from FatShark to Boscam_B and i even A as well as the 25Mw power. I tried different channels, frequency's and i get the same results. I have a Lumenir AX2 5.8 R patch and an AX2 RHCP antenna on the goggles. Can you tell me what is happening and if theres a fix for this? Thnk yoy Nick i appreciate your videos which are very helpful to me.
@@NickBurnsFPV Nick Pit mode is "off" and power level are at 25mw. What i found was the Cobra SD will work just fine with my Mob6 whoop drone, giving a strong, clean feed. The same goes for the Hubsan Jet. I get a clean feed on the jet but i cannot get a signal feed from my hglrc Arrow3 4s quad as well as my Eachine Lal3 3" quad. I changed power levels, frequency and bands on both of these quads and i get nothing. Now the cobra sd i have is a replacement for the 1st pair of Cobra S. The SD worked fine on all my quads when i received them 7 months ago but not any longer and my goggles are still like brand new as i try to take good care of my gear. I dont have a 2nd pair of goggles to confirm if the cobra sd is defective but theres something very wrong.
@@techFPV5964 Do the vtx show power and transmission led? When scanning with the goggles does it not show anything in the wave form? If the betaflight is setup right and we have confirmed no video I have to suspect the vtx not the goggles. There really isn't a cause for a goggle to pickup one drone and not another in analog, there is something with the drone transmission.
@@NickBurnsFPV Good point i do have an extra VTX for the hglrc, hopefully it is operational. If it is the vtx in the hglrc then the Eachine also has a bad VTX. Ill get back to you.

These are really nice got mine yesterday. Was using dji with the adapter and this easier plus the hdmi in is nice. The dji foam from pyro the 6.99 one fits really nice as does the dji strap and the original dji foam that really isn't great fits these and makes them amazing. I also have the Scouts which I like but the resolution is so much better if your on the fence it's worth the moola.
@@fnkycoldmedina they are far better than the scouts resolution wise they look better than dji with a module far better actually and sadly alot better than the scouts plus there's a million adjustments you can make just like regular skyzones. They work with SharkBite but the image is just really small super clear but small. The padding sucks I would buy the cheap dji padding from pyro drone it's 7 bucks. Only thing that sucks is they eat the 1 battery super fast like 15 minutes even with an expensive molicel in them but I leave them plugged into a power bank and unplug them if I wanna stand up or whatever. Buy them you will be blown away. And they updated the firmware on them to fix some issues
@@RubyS.1 ok cool ,thanks for the fast reply . i also asked you this question on your channel page . firmware update for the rx? where you get it at? i heard battery life wasnt great . the scouts only last about 40 minutes too i think . maybe an hour . i usually only fly like 4 runs when i go outdoors with my 5 inch quads .
@@RubyS.1 link to the actual foam you purchased? i looked around over there but there's quite a few .and how was fitment? any link to the firmware update? thanks
yes, they will be near what we find with more expensive goggles, Put a patch antenna on one side and point that patch in the direction you will be flying.
Have you held a radio in your hands? There is so many different sizes, the traditional radio would be the radiomaster TX16 series, then we have the smaller but still square of the radiomaster TX12, and last the gamepad style like the radiomaster zorro or the jumper t-lite. All of these come in at least two versions, a 4in1 version that has the ability to fly a host of different radio protocols, some better than others. Also an ELRS version. ELRS is an outstanding control protocol, but it does have more we have to do to ready the receivers for binding, its pretty straight forward after we have done it a few times, but its something to consider. I suggest doing some research on expresslrs and if the steps don't seem to bad I suggest that protocol.
@@NickBurnsFPV Nope ive never held a radio but going off size the TX12 looks good. Im used to gamepads but dont know if i'll be using my thumb to fly or pinching so i might just go with the TX12. Yes im thinking ELRS too cause the main reason im getting into FPV is to fly long range. I'll check some more about the steps required to bind ELRS. Thanks for the detailed response 👍
If you want to fly at that distance I would get the most expensive goggles and patch antenna you can afford. I wouldn't use the 800dm at that distance.

These look pretty nice, had I not already had goggles and the tbs fusion, they would be on my list. Thanks for the review Nick.
you have a very good skill flying in the house 👍🏼.
Although the reception on the cobrax was just ok, the dvr seemed to record quite well. It even looked sharper than the orcas.
I saw it this way as well.
Considering the Cobra is on stock antenna I'd bin the Orca Cobra has much clearer picture (Cobra runs Skyzone 04 electronics)
It looks nice, also the dvr footage is great.
Loving it!
I would contact skyzone, I believe they have multiple authorized repair "centers", I am not sure they have one in South Africa.
Only to learn from you and Patrick J Clarke that I needed a lot of practice. Thanks!
Hey Nick I found out the HDMI port size for the Skyzone Cobra S goggles and its"Mini HDMI port. Thnx for getting back to me!!
Glad you found what it is. I don't deal much in hdmi, I just gabbed a cable and it fit. I suspect if its mini than the standard must be the ones we use on TVs.
Thanks for the hard work you've put into these reviews.
Good review......Image quality on the Skyzones look as good if not better than the Orca`s on this review....£167 as opposed to £500+ for the Orca`s....How good is that....Skyzone are hitting the spot on there whole range at the moment.
It’s too bad they don’t make OLED box goggles.I have CobraX and with good antennas they do great.
When I click the Bang good link it pulls up an error page that says 'Due to policy reasons, this product does not exist'
I don't believe you have them but will love a comparison with the Fatshark Scout (the one I use these days). The one big advange I see in the is the HDMI input.
Sorry. I do not have them anymore. I believe they were in a giveaway.
Would to see this box goggles with better quality antennas in for appreciate more the difference with Orca googles !
Cobra X is on my wish list because I have been looking into digital with sharkbyte. I think the Cobra X is the least cost with sharkbyte.
very likely. I think they can be hard to get. I think somehow skyzone may have used another companies design and have been forced to remove it from the market. I could be wrong on the details, but I noticed banggood didn't have the product on their site last I checked.
Thank you, appreciate this vid. Have been thinking and thinking what goggles I should start with and these seem good
Awesome goggles my friend, They look like my SJRG01 Goggles that I wear. I can also wear wire frame glasses with them as well.. Cheers! 🖐️🤣
The receiver isn't completely new , it is in the sky04x , and it's really good
Weren't both those goggles launch nearly at the same time? I have the 04x, but haven't used them enough yet.

I think your vtx being at 400mw has a lot to do with the goggles comparing with a rapidfire so well, especially behind buildings.
Actually, the rapid mix is about as good as rapidfire in most comparisons when equal antennas are used.

always so good review and you look just fine in glasses
I would not get the Quanum at this point in time, a bit outdated. These look much better. However, the other option for people with glasses are the goggles with focus adjusters like the eachine ev300o.
Or the goggles that you can just put cheap diopters in like most non boxed goggles
@@ValFPV There are no diopters readily available for those that need reading glasses. You need to order very expensive ones from Germany for that.

For glasses, the fxt viper v2 are very hard to beat
yep fxt viper are way better than this even hawkeye little pilot is better
The Vipers are WAY bigger. Not a great feature for me who wants to throw them in a small backpack

Thanks for the great review!
I would've ordered them as well if they had sub 15-20ms latency
Have you tried the ev800dm's? Much smaller screen :)
The cobra x actually has pretty high latency. Look up the test on RUclips.
Yikes. Hurts a bit that’s $200 vs $700 and that’s stock antennas lol. Good comparison thank you def worth the cost
Do you have that problem with the cobra x, when the picture rolls to the right and it goes black?
Could you tell mi the fix if you can?
I do not have the goggles any longer. I have read of that problem which isn't specific to Skyzone or the cobra goggles. The typical fix is a firmware update to the receiver.
Thanks! I will update it this evening.
It worked thanks Nick!
hi Nick i hope you're well i have these goggles, im a bit confused on these, there's a menu i keep seeing online for the cobra x that shows 3 options but mine has lots more options, like tf normal/ rf race / clear view/ diversity, im not sure what they all mean, do you have any insights ?

I didn't until a week ago. Honestly, not a whole lot of difference all things considered...
Check the modes tab and see if we have it in "pit mode" or the vtx power is set to 0.
Ill get back to you.

yes, they will be near what we find with more expensive goggles, Put a patch antenna on one side and point that patch in the direction you will be flying.

we can, but I believe we lose the ability to control the module with the goggle batteries, we have to use the buttons on the module.
