Well it wasn't Michael that really did that. Him and Lionel Richie were contracted to write the song which was then produced by Quincy Jones. It was a group effort to get this song done. It was only created cause some activists wanted an American version for the famine in Africa after the song "Do They Know it's Christmas" was made. That's about as much as I know.
This one is really good but I prefer the Original one. Literally some of the greatest artists ever is in the Original one. And the sad thing is, Michael Jackson was the only person making songs like this consistently. Man In The Mirror, Heal The World, Earth Song, What More Can I Give, We've Had Enough, The Lost Children. Thats what made Mike different fr. You'll never see that again.

I agree 100% The rest of the video is good... when I watched it for the first time the beginning took me by surprise with Justin Bieber and each time I watch it I keep forgetting how bad the introduction to the song is... thank god we only see Justin Bieber for a few seconds in the beginning... not trying to bring hate on anyone who are quote on quote “Bliebers” whatever that the hell means I’m just not a huge fan of Justin Bieber’s music or really Justin Bieber in general... my taste in music is heavily influenced by my parents and my nana... I do like some of today’s generations music but not much... I grew up listening to music from my parents and my Nanas generations... the original 1985 We Are The World is untouchable by light years and then some... those are the musicians I grew up listening to... my mum told me a story about how she vividly remembers 35 years ago when she was about 11 years old watching the original We Are the World live on the tv with her grandma... I love what they were trying to do I like the effort and the cause but for the love of god no auto tune play around with the bass sound a bit I know they aren’t trying to be a cookie cutter version of the original but I wouldn’t mind if they kept it somewhat similar though I do agree with bringing back MJ and Diana Ross’s part from the original for this video MJ was one of my idols and I was very upset that he died because I never got to go to one of his concerts I was only 9 when he died but I digress you’ll never find artists as great as the ones from the 1985 version... I mean it’s possible but in my opinion and solely based on my musical preferences you’ll never find artists like those ever... a couple of months ago while we were all in quarantine due to the virus, I read an article on the song and Lionel Richie even stated that he was thinking of getting in contact with some of the people who originally sang the song in 1985 and was thinking of doing it again over either Zoom, WebEx, Skype, GoToWebinar, or GoToMeeting and doing it in support of those who have been severely negatively impacted by the virus but it never happened kinda I wish it did though I would’ve liked to see what some of the artists look like today
@@samalberino669 You may know this already but some of the original cast are no longer with us. Kenny Roger's recently passed away himself. Maybe these reasons has something to do with them not redoing the song with the original cast. What they should've done was do it while all the Artists were still here with us. People don't live forever in this life you know.

I cried when I watched the 1985 version and I cried again when I watched this version so I feel you Shavonn. Michael co-wrote this song with Lionel Richie and though I like both versions, I do prefer the original.

Don’t know how I stumbled upon this video but I appreciate the ❤️ you gave it. The 1st earthquake hit Haiti in 2010 and it brought the country down. My husband is Haitian born so we have gone back to Haiti to visit family and the people there are the sweetest people but their living circumstances are deplorable. The people are very hardworking and sadly media chooses to just point out the few bad bunches in the country. Haiti never totally recovered from the first quake when there was yet another quake in 2021. I watch this video and I always cry because I’ve seen firsthand how these people live.

I get that they wanted to update the 25 year old version this song but the difference is that 25 years ago their voices were pure no autotune BS and thats what I see here I love the fact that artists gave their time to this project there are not a lot of artists that do that and I really commend them on this because Haiti is just as important as Africa was 25 years ago when this was done. I just feel the spirit of the original song was more honest and pure.

When I'm sad I look at this video. Y'all make me happy.
Hands down, this is a great song. The only thing that made it a turn off for me (and I know I'm gonna get hate for saying this) was the autotune. All I'm saying is keep the vocals natural; you've been born with a great gift, there's no need for it to be ruined by some computerized tool. It doesn't matter to me if you can't sing a note. Things can be worked out to make your singing still sound great naturally. Other than that, I have no other complaints.
I fully agree the 1985 version had heart it was so special and nothing will ever change that I always get goosebumps watching the original.

It was recorded a week or two after WATW and features a good majority of Canada's talent. From Neil Young and Joni Mitchell to Corey Hart and Mike Reno (Loverboy). The song was composed by David Foster (worked with Celine Dion, Josh Groban, Whitney Houston, etc) with lyrics by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance (Bryan's writing partner at the time). It tied for winning the Grammy Award in 1986.
