The year I passed my test and was driving around in a red, hatch back chevette . Easier to pass and drive around back then . Less cars on the road etc. Brings back great memories. Thanks
Thanks for posting this it gives a real feel of how Brighton was back in the 1980s. I was in Essex at the time and moved down to Sussex just after 2000 . Some Things certainly seemed to have changed .
Allegro ..sherpa van which I used to drive..cortinas MK 3&4 classic fords plus the bulky Granada but a fine drive. Your right very common then now all classics.
Amazing video, mate. I would have been a young kid at the time. It so funny to look at this and think that Brighton hasn't changed that much in 26 years. The only thing different really is the cars and the shops!
PS. At 1:25, the building on across the road from the Wick Inn (which still has the same name) is just the same as it was then. Vacant with scaffold. Really, am I in a time warp? Amazing that the same buildings keep having occupant difficulties even then and now!
It's weird seeing Moulsecoomb Way before the leisure centre was built, I do remember it being that way. I also remember seeing the bottom of the road before the traffic lights were installed. I used to live just past the viaduct, I grew up in Ringmer Road opposite St George's hall.
I started work with Brighton & Hove Buses in Conway Street Hove and drove many of these buses. My favourite route was the 60 Mile Oak Shuttle limited stop 😎
As a life long resident of Brighton & hove this has brought back some memories. Nearly all the banks are now restaurants or coffee shops of sone sort.
many memories and I look today and see this and notice how much Churchill Square and western road have changed

I moved to Brighton in 89... the traffic is so light compared to today ❤❤❤❤❤

Omg that lighting shop near Bankers looked exactly the same for over 20 years! You could sort of tell though.
Even in 1988 it was having a "closing down" sale...
Great video, thanks for sharing.. it brings back fond memories of Brighton.

It's amazing how much some stuff has changed and other stuff is familiar. And not a Hi-Viz in sight!
Wow, thank you for posting this video, it took me right back to my youth! :)

To think, you used to be able to drive around brighton and get to your destination within the town in under an hour.
Thanks for this
@3:00 - Pause in the soundtrack while the driver takes a drink from his flask.

5B Bus still goes to Hollingbury now
Watching this in the future in 2021. DON'T EAT THE BATS. I could tell you why but you don't want to know.
Most of these people if not all are dead.5b to hove. See me old man. He's long dead now. Soon be me.
It’s only 32 years ago. Some of the old people might be dead but most of the others are probably alive and kicking.
20:40 Three of Glyde Motors' finest!
Lidl not yet built in this flim
yep - still Wilson's laundry - presumably named after the road ;D
Fast forward 30 odd years later the place is run by... We all know who and what..
none of the good shops are left in western road
So much more civilized then. A lot of English about 😀
No wonder bus drivers were so bad if this was the level of instruction!
