In real life, battleships didn't hit each other; instead, they would "straddle," or land the shots on either side of the enemy warship, so that when the shells explode either side of the warship it creates a crushing shockwave that crumples pretty much anything like a tin can, regardless of armor. Cold waters understandably doesn't model this, as it would be too complicated judging just how much damage it would actually do.
@@totalnerd5674 Yes they did. Early in battles, sure, but hits were definitely scored after a few ranging shots. How else did Hood detonate? How was Kirishima sunk (okay that was basically CQB but still)? These were results of battleships *scoring hits* on each other.
Aircraft Carriers and Landing Helicopter Crafts are more bigger targets than a Heavily Armed Battleship. Since that the Iowa Class Battleships were Modified and Modernized to meet High standards, might as well continue to make improvements since Heavy Artillery still makes a big difference. @@diligentone-six2688 yes but those depend on planes and helis that can perform many operations with no problems and in the case of the carriers they are the offensive firepower of the fleet. Heavy artillery isn't important anymore, you have missiles that can do the work much more easily without putting yourself in a dangerous situation. Having a BB nowadays is useless, unleast you covert the Iowas into something similar to what it is a Kirov.

Three Iowa Class Battleships took part in the Persian Gulf War. Missouri got the most press attention than Wisconsin and Iowa. Honestly there isn't much these ships can do that pre-existing Burkes and Ticonderogas can't. The Iowas were extremely costly to maintain owing to their size, complexity and age. To make matters worse they have practically zero air-defence capability other than the last-ditch short-range stingers and CIWS. Smart-shells for their main batteries is an interesting prospect, especially if they can be designed to "glide" in-flight to extend their range. However it would still place the ship in range of shore and even land-based anti-ship missile batteries, a lesson the Russians learnt with the Moskva.
Kirov Class: Mounting so many CWIS so missiles don't hit.
Iowa Class: ARmOr
"This battleship ain't gonna sink, no way!"
That middle got lost, spun around and smoked him! Well done Mr missile!
I was wondering if someone would see that.. because with all my hours in this game, I have never seen a missile do something like that haha
@@_OpFor I think the missile is stooopiiid the missile is saying weee me go fly high and go boom but am lazy me go fly around because why not
In cold waters world captains and admirals get some nap before the engagement by the looks of how they are always in close combat
good thing there were no alpha's lurking around or hypersonic cruise missiles
Ive always wondered what a WWII version of cold waters would be like.
There's the game already, but this time you can control the whole fleet in faction
How much damage did the Iowa wind up taking?
Was it difficult because it was a first time iowa vs kriov
Planes from Aircraft Carrier still cant fly?
great video, though I would have thought the 16" guns would be more accurate
Thanks for watching Charles. Yeah, that would better!

Bro imagine the Russian seeing the WHOLE BARRAGE OF MISSILE COMING THERE WAY danm
I wish they wouldn't have retired the USS IOWA but I understand why. It was just outdated and a big floating target.
I wish they kept it for something like bombardments of positions.. what a sight it would be!
