    Looks like another good fly Matt. Although my youngest grandson was sitting in my lap while I was watching you tie it. He wanted to know what you were doing and I told him you were showing how to tie a fly called Ke-He. He kept calling it the Te-He. It was fun trying to get him to say Ke-He. And for the record I never did get him to say Ke-He.

    I’m sorry but I had to laugh at the microphone issue.😂 Thanks! My wife’s 11 year old niece is visiting with her family for a few days, and saw my tying station and became infatuated with the pretty feathers and hair laying around. I coached her through a woolly bugger and it lit the fire, and she was at the vice a couple of hours until bedtime last night, just tying freestyle flies. She just woke up and yes..she’s at the vice. She’s a natural and also loves to fish so this may last. 🙂. Going to show her this video and let her try it while I’m at work. Bet she gets it! Have a great one Matt. Thanks for all you do! 👍👍🎣

    Great pattern. I saw this pattern in, and tied some from, Mike Dawes book "The Flytyer's Manual".
    I've used it with success on Elk Creek and Deer Creek in Maryland; close to where I used to live as well as the Gunpowder.
    Keep tying these classic patterns. They still work well on Maryland streams.

    Hi Matt, a great fly for wild brown trout on the lochs. I always add a fine gold wire rib because the peacock body wouldn't survive long at all. The ke-he black is also very good but I prefer using a zulu. Look up the wormfly which is like a double ke-he on a longshank hook, a very good pattern. You can also play with the tag colours and chartreuse is a very good replacement for the red, I prefer using glo-brite floss to wool nowadays, colours no4, no11 and no12. Scottish flies are just the best 😉😂😂

    • @SavageFlies
      @SavageFlies  2 года назад

      Ahhhh... the Zulu! Another one I see all the UK folks tying. I'm putting some black hackle on my shopping list so just maybe I'll try this again later. The wormfly sounds interesting but Google didn't show me anything but a San Juan Worm when I tried looking it up. Thanks for the note my friend. :-)

    Yet another 3 Way Fly variation.
    And one or two of the old books I have the basic peacock and ginger hackle combination is considered a One Fly sort of item. That is to say, if you have no other flies - have that one.
    I’m thinking maybe a fluorescent color wall in the tail might be useful.

    Good morning Matt. Had a chuckle about the microphone issue, did you say oh my goodness? 😃. Enjoyed the video this morning. I can see I need to remember to bring my travelling kit so I can tie some flies like this one while we are out. Trying to figure out what to put in it has been a bit of a challenge. Oh yeah John! I can't remember if I said "oh my goodness" but I probably did. I'm sure I say that a lot. As for a travel kit... I have a Fishpond bag that will hold a ton of stuff if I want to take one along on a trip. But I also have an "emergency" kit with the bare minimums in a bag under the backseat of my truck. That's the "oh crap I just arrived at the river and I forgot my nymph box" kind of kit. Or maybe I'm killing it on ant patterns and my last one is in a tree. :-)

    I agree that the fly doesn't resemble any bee I've ever seen but I think it may be a very good imitation of that extremely rare Scottish Red Butt Bee. That said it's a nice simple fly that uses common materials, but in 1930 I'm pretty sure they used wool as I don't believe that synthetics had been invented yet. Keep the good stuff coming buddy.

    I'm almost a day late and a dollar short on this O.B.G. pattern ;o) Maybe Ke & He slapped a GP tippet on a Red Tag wet to make it look like a bee, sort of colorwise anyway. Some say those GP tippets resemble an ant with those bands of color that gives it the "mojo" that fish like. Peacock herl has lots of "mojo" on its own. I wonder if there's a dry version of the Ke-He like the Red Tag? Either way it's a fish catcher to last this long. Great video Matt, thanks!

    Awesome video as usual. Your timing for this video is a bit uncanny for me, since I just started reading The Flytyiers Manual a couple of hours ago. I purchased both it and The Flytyiers Companion by Mike Dawes (Spiral Edition) in today’s mail so I look forward to your book review video in the future. Mega Thx as always for your great selection of simple yet intriguing patterns to showcase for us newcomers to Fly Tying. However, I do need to actually start tying some of these flies instead of just watching your videos several times. I guess I’m just afraid I’ll tie the flies incorrectly or that they’ll look like garbage.

    • @SavageFlies
      @SavageFlies  2 года назад

      This is uncanny! You're going to love these books. I think there is some overlap and some of the same patterns are in both but they''re still solid. And my advice for you... get to tying! And don't worry one bit if your first flies are a big mess. Before I tied this Ke-He I spent two hours trying to learn the Teal Blue and Silver from this book and it was such a mess I couldn't even make a video out of it! Seriously, they were all ugly. (Hint: a teal wing is hard to make look good.) One other bit of advice- start with the easy patterns, and tie with a 70 denier thread. It's strong enough to not break much on you, but thin enough that you can get clean heads. If you get good with 70 denier, the other sizes will be a piece of cake. :-)
